3rd week of using Subutex to treat pill addiction. Overall, it has been a pretty good experience. I'm using it along with other prescribed meds to help with withdrawl/sleep difficulty.

I have been on subutex for a year now and have had no desire to use pain meds on a daily bases like before. I feel like a new person with a whole new out look on life. Not just for myself but my family as well. if you want to stop using pain meds get with a doctor that helps with addiction problems. it works.

I have been using subutex for several years now. I take anywhere from 2-6 mg/day. The only drawback is that you need to clean your mouth/brush your teeth to get full affect. In addition, I found that the longer you can go leaving med in mouth, the better it is absorbed and vice/versa. Also, I'm down to a dose where I really don't have bad physical withdrawals if I try to get off of it but I do have acute anxiety. Has anyone got off of this drug by using something for anxiety and if so what? I know this seems like substituting one med for another but I feel like having something for anxiety would be the last tapper. In addition to the latter, has anyone had a hard time obtaining subutex rather than suboxone? There are many doctors that only want to prescribe suboxone but the naloxone really puts me in a tale spine. I wish I could take the naloxone but I found the naloxone is what makes me tired and depressed even though it suppose to have no effect due to buprenorphine being superior to receptors than naloxone. Any feedback would be appreciated.Read More Read Less

OK, I just sat here and looked at roughly 35 reviews and couldn,t continue. No one ever mentioned the fact that for those of you on suboxone that if you are ever in need of a pain reliever " accident at work, car accident, broken leg/arm" your out of luck. There are some things they can try but for the most part 2-3 days before you will feel comfort again. Loss of sex drive,OMG... depression... Please don't get me wrong it works for opiate withdrawl but I see post of people takeing it for cronic pain?? I started out on pain killers due to a back injury that has yet to be repaired due to risk. Ended up as most of us who are taking this drug useing and abusing for 8-9 years or so. I started Methadone when my liver shut down from the 3 80mg oxys I was banging every day. Saved my life but it was a double edged sword ended up going way to high,280 a day and could barly function. I as most tried to go down and stop and back up but when it came down to it I was high and didn't want to stop. I was on methadone for 7 years, made the decition and dropped 20 every other day till I made it to the 30mg mark I needed to reach to try suboxone. I made the change and thought it was great, I felt "normal" on 24mgs a day and started down, 2 years later I am now on subutex at 8mgs a day, not sick but very depressed, unmotivated, no sex drive"at all" and in pain from injury. So to all that call this a "WONDER DRUG" I beg to differ and to some who seem to think this is an easy way to get off this hell ride I'm sorry to say that the physical withdrawl from buprenorphin is just as bad as any other opiate and the mental aspect is horrible. Again, I am not trying to put this med down it works for what I use it for but for me its NOT the wonder drug most make it out to be. VERY ADDICTIVE, VERY POWERFULL Becaefull and good luck...Read More Read Less

I am now detoxing (Day 11, no meds) from being on Subutex for 2+ years under medical supervision. I tapered down from 16mg/day to 2mg/day in just over 2 months, then jumped off. IT CAN BE DONE. The best advice I can give somebody thinking about going on this program is this: ONLY do it if your life DEPENDS ON IT. If getting clean is the ONLY thing between you and death, then do it. If you just have a casual thing with Vicodin (like I did), forget about it. It isn't worth it. The treatment is EXPENSIVE and you'll end up going thru withdrawal (acute AND PAWS anyway) so get it over with now before you drag this addiction thing out any longer. If I can change just ONE PERSON'S mind about this, I'm glad I took the time to write this. As "good" as I felt on it, I regret ever going down that path. Wasted years. Read More Read Less

If you are addicted to painkillers, and for me it was never because I truly needed them, this your way out. This drug gave me my life back. After a year on subutex I've gone from 16mg/day to 5mg/day no problem. For me, and I imagine many others, methadone would have never worked, because you are still getting a good/high feeling everyday! Subutex just brings you to normal/stable. It's true the withdrawl is like 10x worse than opiates (so take it correctly & make time for dr appts). I don't know what stopping completely will be like, but that's why I'm in therapy. At some point it's mind over matter. Read More Read Less

I was been addicted to Lortab/Norco 10mg for appx. 5 years due to head and neck pain. I finally said enough is enough when one of my children asked me why I was always taking pills. I decided then and there I was going to take my life back. I found a wonderful Dr. and started Subutex right away. It worked great for my opiate withdrawal but now after 2 yrs. I am trying to stop it and am going through a terrible time. I got down to .5 mg a day and then just stopped. I feel worse now then I did trying to come off opiates. So be very careful as to the time you stay on it and KNOW that it is very addictive also. Good luck and God Bless!Read More Read Less
