Hello, I have been using Synthroid for over ten years and find it the best to use. I have never had my dose increased as I follow the SPECIFIC directions for use. Take it at the same time every day (for me, 5 A.M.!)and on an empty stomach--for one hour. I have found, my morning coffee is fine with no cream, or half and half ; a food. I tried the generic form and it did not have the same affect...

I have had a total thyroidectomy and have been taking Synthroid for 5 years and have still not found the "right" dose for me. I have in the past 5 years gained 35 lbs. I have tried different diets all working well in the beginning but then I stop losing weight. I am now taking 500MCG. I am supposed to take 300MCG in the morning and 200MCG at night. I have a hard time remembering to taking the morning dose let alone trying to remember taking another dose at night, so I have decided to take the full dose in the morning. Not sure if this helps anyone or anything! I am still waiting for that day the lab results come back with normal thyroid levels.Read More Read Less

I have had severe Hypothyroidism (due to no thyroid) since I was 8. This drug seems to take a while to find the correct dosage, but the effects of it are immediate. Word of warning to users out there- I had a near fatal allergic reaction to this drug's coloring. Each dosage is a different color. Not knowing that I had an allergy to the coloring, my throat near swelled shut, my fingers were swollen to immobility and my entire body became hard as a rock. My reaction did not happen overnight; there were no signs of this until 3 months of being on this particular dosage.Read More Read Less

I have been taking this med for more than a month and I have already lost 8.5 lbs and counting. My energy level has increased some and my skin is less dry. I also eat healthy and work out 3 days a week. This has been a blessing because other doctors said my blood levels were normal. The normal TSH level is .03-3.0 so if you have symptoms and your doctor says your blood levels are normal, find a doctor that follows the revised levels as of 2003-2006 Also the doctor should listen to your symptoms. Sometimes blood levels are off depending on the person & the degree of disorder. I hope this has helped. Good luck to all and live healthyRead More Read Less

I have been on some type of thyroid treatment for more years than I can count. Nothing has helped me.... I had a scan done and the poor person taking it had all he could do to find it. My thyroid is almost completely gone...and the pills have Never Ever helped. I am still tried and the weight gain is horrendous. Now I have leg and ankle pain so walking hurts. Very sad that nothing can help me. :<((

Enlarged nodule and underactive thyroid. On Synthroid 75 mg. for two weeks (first time). Lack of energy more than before and increase dizziness. Not sure if I should wait another two weeks to see if things change before calling Dr.

FINALLY! A medication to help with my problem! Previous doctors told me my issues were caused from stress, but I found a great doctor that did a TRH test and found that my thyroid production was almost non-existent. Within 2 weeks, I had energy and my hair seemed to be growing back in where it had started to thin. Please talk to your doctor about the correct dosage for you, but I sing praises to this med!!

i just found out several days ago, that i was taking synthroid for a misdiagnosis. i have been taking it as prescribed for over 5 years. i gained 35 pounds in the first three months of taking it. i have had such severe mood swings. i have put a gun to my head more than once. i have called my physician urgently, reporting thoughts of homicide. he put me on an anti depressant. after coming unglued so badly, i almost lost the right to see my grand daughter and was not allowed near my new grandson, i changed doctors.i removed myself from the synthroid, and went on a natural replacement therapy. my follow up blood tests were perfect.the new doc immediately tested me for graves and hashimoto's. my tests were positive for hashimoto's, for which synthroid is not indicated at this time. since getting the drug out of my system, i have some fatigue, but i can live with that. i no longer have the severe mood swings, lost 10 lbs and my new mood is much easier to live with. I was told that I had a thyroid disorder at the age of 10. I am now 44 and I have been on Synthyroid .2 mg for about 25 years. This medication is the best. Unfortunately, I can't use the Generic brand it messes with my T3 and T4 counts. If anyone is thinking about using this medication, talk to your doctor and find out if it right for you.
