Hello, I have been using Synthroid for over ten years and find it the best to use. I have never had my dose increased as I follow the SPECIFIC directions for use. Take it at the same time every day (for me, 5 A.M.!)and on an empty stomach--for one hour. I have found, my morning coffee is fine with no cream, or half and half ; a food. I tried the generic form and it did not have the same affect...

I lost my thyroid function when I was 17 due to a pituitary tumor which was discovered when I was 37. I lost all glandular function and have been on Synthroid for 16 years. I have to say it is a great hormone replacement drug and it does its job well. I will not take the generic. The problem is the doctors. Some get the patient in the normal range but do not account the patient's feelings. After five endocrinologists I have found the right doctor and dose for me because he listened to my symptoms and complaints along with the lab work. The right Synthroid dose takes a while to find but if you rememember what life was like before you will realize that the effort and time you put into it is worth it. Don't give up. It is difficult to find a good time to take it due to also taking calcium and iron supplements, as well as antacids. Spacing out the schedule for taking all these drugs is difficult for me. I also am experiencing insomnia which I've never had before, as well as a tremendous amount of sweating. I now have to go back to the doctor to discuss these side effects.

Once things strainghtened out with thyroid levels, and that was quick for me, I felt much better. Night and day difference. I do NOT miss a dose however.

I have been taking this medication for approximately 5 years now. I have no side effects and my weight is maintained. The reason I am looking into the generic is the price is high Levothyroxine ( the generic ) has the same ingrediants and side effects listed for synthroid .

the synthriod is being givin to an 89yr old lady the dosage started out at .125mg, then she done fine on that dosage then he said it was too low so he raised it to .150mg that made it too hy and she is having weak spells so he lowered it to .137mg. she has been on this dosage sense may. she is gettin worse with her weak spells the thyroid was check again and it is still alittle hy but the doctor would not lower her dosage. could her thyroid being still alittle too high cause her weakness?

Since having radioactive iodine treatment when I was 17, I have been on thyroxine replacement for over 30 years. Up until this year, I have done the best on Synthroid versus generics but for the last 6 months I have been very tired with no energy although my TSH levels are within range. I don't know if they changed the formula or what but I need to find an alternative. I would consider a generic or armour thyroid but my physician will only prescribe synthroid.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in 2003 after giving birth to my second son. The medicine really helped me for yrs and it increased my appetite too. I gained a little weight but I watched my food intake and managed to keep from gaining too much. About 2 yrs ago I started getting real sick like from a simple sinus infection. The doctor did a thyroid antibodies test and found that I have Hashimoto's disease of the thyroid. I started having anxiety attacks, racing of the heart, flutters, nervous, jittery. It was spaced out up until recently and now its all the time. My levels go from one extreme to the other. Taking the same dose meds .75 levothroxine My levels was at 0.45 a month ago and now it is at 5.33 I never know if when i take my meds it is gonna make me nervous and anxious or tired. I convinced my doctor to back my meds to synthroid .50mcg and when I have too many anxiety attacks during the night or I get too nervous I half the pill the next day. I feel like my body cant keep going like this. I know my heart can't keep doing this. Doctors are not God! And patients are not just numbers on a chart!Read More Read Less
