Hello, I have been using Synthroid for over ten years and find it the best to use. I have never had my dose increased as I follow the SPECIFIC directions for use. Take it at the same time every day (for me, 5 A.M.!)and on an empty stomach--for one hour. I have found, my morning coffee is fine with no cream, or half and half ; a food. I tried the generic form and it did not have the same affect...

Had a TT 6/09. Started on 100mcg up to 112mcg then 125mcg then 137mcg now at 150mcg. I felt better at 137mcg. The doctor will probably change when I go back.

Thank you all for your input. It is so nice to know what others are experiencing. For those who miss Armour, ask for a compounding pharmacy to make some up for you. It can be done and sent by mail to you. Your doctor can make this happen. Don't know about cost, but beats being miserable.

When I found out I had thyroid disease (12th in my family)I was put on Synthroid. After being on it for three years I felt I was still having symptoms and not feeling any better. I was switched to Armour Thyroid. Well, I felt like I had my life back. Now since the FDA is at war with the company who makes natural thyroid meds I cannot find natural thyroid meds anywhere. I was put back on Syntroid. Well, I feel like absolute crap. I have horrible heartburn, sweating, hair loss, can't sleep and tired all the time. I hate this stuff!Read More Read Less

I had been tired and my doctor tested me for low blood sugar, anemia, etc. Also, I had recently had a hysterectomy. I started on Synthroid 50mg, but it took a while to work out all the tricks of how to take it. Eventually, by reading sites like this, I now take it at the same time in the morning on an empty stomach with a full glass of water, no food for 2 hours after. I noticed that citrus drinks made me tired in the afternoon. I haven't lost any weight but my digestion is much better. After a month and a half, I have a headache and am a little irritable. I'm not willing to live with headaches if I don't have to, so I may see if lowering the dose helps. What others say appears to be true: It's an individual process weighing the alternatives.Read More Read Less

I've been on synthroid for 6 months since have a total thyroidectomy due to cancer. It was moderately difficult prior to my levels being stable so I did experience brain fog, weight gain, fatigue. However, now stablized, I'm actually feeling pretty good. I've started loosing some of the weight-although I work at this VERY HARD-it is possible. And my energy and concentration are back. My suggestion is to not believe everything you read and to chart your own course with this drug. Complaining never solves anything!Read More Read Less

Iwas referred to an endocrinologist by my new medical doctor. The endoc. asked me a few questions about fatigue and depression of which I answered no, but he immediately diagnosed me with thyroid problems of which I had no real understanding at that time. I had to take the Iodine procedure at the hospital(very costly) and thereafter placed on Synthroid. I have gained over 50 pounds since that time (l 1/2) years. I have always been very physically active and always tried to keep my weight down. Now I know why I have been unable to do so. It is this drug(Synthroid) I was never informed that this would happen to me. Also my blood pressure has elevated due to this drug(generic Levothyroxine). I am going to see what can be done about this. Thanks for the other postings I have read concerning this. I share some of these same stories and concerns.Read More Read Less

My problem is finding a doctor to treat the SYMPTOMS. My numbers are borderline so they won't put me on any meds for it. But I'm tired ALL the time, take naps every day, no energy level at all, depressed alot, can't loose any weight even with diet & exercise. Hair loss & thining. Why won't a doctor treat the symptoms?? As for my ratings: I had to fill those in but I've never taken any meds for this.

A recent blood test revealed that I may have an under-active thyroid. My doctor has prescribed Synthorid for 30 days. In a month's time I will have a TSH blood test to determine how serious my condition is... During the past several months, I've gained a few pounds and felt fatiqued... So, will have wait for the screening test next month...

Over the years since I began taking Synthroid I have heard good and bad tales of this drug. I'm sure everyone taking it will have a different experience as is the case with most things in life but I have to say that I have never had anything but benefits from taking this drug. I started taking it about ten years ago when I started to suffer from dizziness and exhaustion. Also weight gain that I could not lose. It took several blood tests to finally determine that my TSH was high and yes I needed to supplement my thyroid hormone. Shortly after starting with the lowest dose, I heard from a few of my cousins that they too were having thyroid problems. It seems that it would be an inherited trait. Over the years I have had small increases in my dosage as I would start to complain of the symptoms again. I haven't had any side effects and overall I feel better for taking it.Read More Read Less

I have been on Synthroid (50mcg) for 13 years. I tried the generic two years ago, but was not satisfied with the way I felt, so I resumed the brand name within two months. I keep it by my bathroom sink and take it when I awake on an empty stomach...as directed. I am 76 now and still have a great energy level. My son, age 50, has just been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and he is on the 125 mcg strength.

I was just recently at 53 years old (and am going through Menapause on top of it) diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. (via blood lab) The only real symtom I had was weight gain and feeling on edge but, I also have a very stressful high powered job. So, there was a lot to consider. Was it Menapause? Right away my doctor put me on Synthroid. Just like that no alternative discussions. I've only been on this medication for less than 2 months and the only thing good about it is that I'm not having hot flashes or night sweats and I do have a little more energy other than that I NOW HAVE practically half of the symtoms that you're suppose to have when you have Hypothyroidism along with the side effects to boot plus a couple that are not even mentioned. Every time I would feel something weird or my hair starting to thin or headaches even my BP starting elevating etc. I'd look them up and sure enough there were the side effects and or symtoms. I finally told my doctor about what I was feeling and how my body was changing and not for the good and she mentioned only two things. One that some of the symptoms that I complained of she never heard of anyone else having them. (headaches, dry cough and elevated BP)yet, my BP that day was 160/90! and secondly then lets discontinue the Synthroid for now. See you in 3 months with new lab work. I'm now off the synthroid for only 1 week. I don't know how long it stays in your system but, I'm not going to say all effects have subsided but, I feel my old self coming back.. tired on edge etc. I hope there's other alternatives out there. Something natural!Read More Read Less
