Provachol has been prescribed for me but I am afraid to take it because of the many side effects that all meds that are advertise have on your organs!!

I am a 56-yr. old female who was placed on 20 mg of Pravastatin, generic of Pravachol. Blood work showed cholesterol was 286. Dr. said increase Pravastatin to 40 mg. After 2-weeks, experienced sharp pain in left foot leaving me unable to work w/o a limp. Pain in foot subsides but in a few days, I was unable to lift rt. arm. Rt. arm improves but later unable to lift left arm. Dr. said to continue w/Pravastatin and I might have fibromyalgia. Wanted me to begin medication for fibromyalgia to which I disagreed. Zocor caused a rash on arms & legs. Muscle enzyme test elevated due to Pravastatin. I don't want to take any statin drug ever again. Read More Read Less

I have been so sick beginning about 3-4 weeks ago; loss of appetite, overall ill feeling in my stomach, gasy and bruising easily; I believe it's related to the pravachol. I'm not taking it anymore.

Side effects have made me stop taking this drug. The good news is that it reduced my cholesterol from 270 down to 190 in about 60 days. The bad news is that at the same time I developed knee, wrist, and bottom of the foot pain that I never had before. I have excercised 90 minutes a day for 20 years with no problems. Now I have stopped due to these pain symptoms. I have stopped taking the drug for 10 days and am hoping the pain symptoms will stop. It may work for others but I will NEVER take a statin again. I experienced large saucer-sized bruising while on this and other statins. Enough so that I was thought to being an abuse victim. Also, I had increase FMS symptoms.

I was recently perscribed 20mg Pravachol by my doctor. Almost immediately after starting it, I had extreme pain in my hips. I could barely walk let alone sleep at night. I thought maybe I had injured myself, but, could not think of anything I had done. Called my doctor, she told me to stop taking it and when I did, the pain went away immediately. Whew. Pravachol, not for me.

I've been on Pravastatin for over 3 years and I've not experienced any severe side effects that would make me stop taking it. I have taken it with tamoxifen and now femara for breast cancer. All of these drugs can cause muscle/joint pain, tiredness, and headaches...but it doesn't effect me to the point of going off them. I think the benefit outweighs the slight side effects.

Recent blood test showed my Triglycerides in the 850 range. Was prescribed Zocor 20 mg. Started having debilitating joint pain in arms & legs. doctor switched to Pravachol 10 mg. Joint pain persists. Taking myself off all statins. Will lower my triglycerides naturally by modified diet.

I have been taking pravastatin for over a year. I do have some leg pain at night and I am constantly fatigued but not to the point I can not deal with it. I have a family history of heart attack before age 50 and stroke before 65 and our family usually will run a total number of 275 or bigger. My is down to around 200 but the LDL remains a borderline high. I have a question though because I have a portion of hair that has quit growing. It started about a year ago and now I have an area where I am losing hair but I was recently put on atnelol and I am thinking that is causing the loss. Has anyone else experienced the hair not growing while on pravachol/pavastatin? It grows everywhere except one spot and not a spot you can hide, quite irritating. Is there something I can take?Read More Read Less

I went to my doctor today and everything was fine, but when i came home and looked over my scribs I saw she gave me one for Pravachol 40mg. we did not discuss this in the office so this surprized me---now I had to look up what it was for and I am shocked--I will never take this drug, I already get 'charlie horses' in my legs at nite and rashes and hot flashes I don't need--thanks for sharing, you really saved me--sorry you all had to find out the hard way.

I took myself off of Zetia afer the bad press. At that time my cholesteral level was great. I was off of cholesterol meds for a year and my level climbed back to 230 so Doc prescribed Pravochol. I was given the generic. Took one pill every other day. Afer first pill felt burning in calf but didn't connect. Took second pill as directed and major muscles were on fire in addition to achy joints and itching all over. I won't take another one. It's been two weeks and my leg muscles are still burning. Doc is now reccommending Welchol or going back to Zetia.Read More Read Less
