I was diagnosed with osteopena a few years agos, which lead to detailed blood tests revealing very low Testosterone levels. I was also being treated for depression (Cymbalta). Upon starting therapy with Testim, the depression went away (as did the Cymbalta and its side effects), i have better erections and increased libido, and hopefully less bone loss (the bone in my back!). I avoid the sticky pr...

Previously on another brand of testosterone gel which was odourless apart from the alcohol which evaporated off fairly quickly, but this has now been changed to Testim, UK NHS using the cheapest suppliers. It is horrendous. The smell is repulsive. The only way I can describe it is a masculine sweaty body odour smell, and it sticks with you the whole day. Also, its very sticky and takes ages to rub into the skin. I could tolerate this if it were odourless, but no. I will be asking for a replacement product or move to injections.Read More Read Less

Using for masculinizing hormone therapy. Doesn't dry well. I can walk around without covering for 2-3 hours after application and my clothes will still stick to me. Very annoying. T levels have increased some to be within a normal range but will still fluctuate.

The stickiness and time required to fully rub this in and for it to dry makes for a truly miserable experience. Results of increased testosterone in my blood work is typically not very good.

Like most reviewers I find the product somewhat effective but the smell is not tolerable. Androgel was much more effective and scent free. My insurance company only pays for testim now so I came up with a solution. I pried the top off my old androgel pump and mixed the testim with my favorite cologne and now I have a better smelling product that is easier to apply. Hoping the new year brings more generic options covered by insurance.

Testim does what it is supposed to do. Pity that it smells like a prostitutes laundry.

Was prescribed this due to Low T. Total score of 240 and Free score of 6.3. Fatigue, concentration and memory were major issues. Urologist put me on Testim 1% which was 1 tube per day. It's been 3 weeks now and I have no improvements that I can feel or notice yet. To me the smell is no problem. When you first apply it on shoulders and upper arms, the alcohol smell being close to your face can be a fit overwhelming causing me to cough a bit but after that it's no problem. Testim definitely has a unique scent but I would not describe it as bad as so many others have claimed. It's very easy to apply but it does make your hands very sticky almost like glue but I try to wash my hands as soon as possible after applying it. At first, when applying it, I had issues with my shirt sticking to my shoulders and arms if I didn't wait for it to thoroughly dry but then I started using a small amount of baby powder before putting on my shirt and that solved the problem. My follow up visit is in a couple days so it will be interesting what my doc says, what my T-scores are now and what he prescribes me next. From what I've read, the gels deliver a more consistent dosage in your body but you do have to stay consistent in terms of applying it at the same time every day. This can be an inconvenience if you do not have a consistent schedule. Also, I am very careful around my wife and son as I read, it's not good form them to get Testim directly on their skin. Typically this is not an issue after it dries but if you sweat or get the shoulders wet, then you can feel the slickness of the gel and probably need to be careful. I now use separate towels for showering, use a separate laundry hamper and wash my clothes separate from my wife/son just to be on the safe side. Not sure if I can go in a pool or hot tub with this on as my son enjoys both with me. Need to ask if the Testim can spread to others through water. Hope this review helps - will update again next month.Read More Read Less

This smells so bad, is sticky for so long, requires such a large quantity and gets stick again if you sweat and the smell doesn't go away when you shower. It's pretty miserable to use daily

Got my first box of Testim today. Tried one tube. I'm not sure how it works. The smell was the most vile, repulsive stench to ever pollute my sinuses; it was nauseating. My wife, a nurse for nearly 35 years, said it was THE most repulsive smell she's encountered; necrotic tissue might sweeten the room; she was gagging when I was in the room, and not in a good way. I reluctantly went into public and ran to the market about two hours after application. It was embarrassing; people in line backed away from me, one making a repulsed face as he distanced himself from my stench. I just returned the remaining 29 tubes to the pharmacy for the trash where it belongs for no refund and threw away the shirt I was wearing to avoid cross-contamination.Read More Read Less

Post Script to earlier review from Olfactor: In the hope that Auxilium Pharmaceuticals' intimation that I was experiencing a "batch aberration," since writing my earlier review, I have tried two more courses. My 13-year-old now says I smell like nail polish remover, which I suppose is a step up from the earlier formaldehyde, but still not the original alluring musky scent that set Testim apart from the generic equivalents, which are just as effective at curing low T. Sadly, I have concluded that the thrill of the original formulation is forever gone, possibly a cost-cutting casualty of Auxilium's recent acquisition by Endo International plc. From lusty musk to formaldehyde to nail polish remover...what a sad decent. Read More Read Less

A true story: Several years ago my annual physical showed a drop in T count that led my doctor to prescribe a topical gel. First I tried a generic but it smelled like methanol, leading friends and family to wonder if I had been in high school chemistry class. My doc next prescribed Testim, which had a marvelous olfactory effect opposite to the generic brand. In fact I had to fight off women who were strangers as well as some who weren't. Even men commented on my pleasant fragrance--not a plus in my case. So for several years, I was a happy user of Testim. Then I received a shipment this past September, and the wonderful scent was gone. In its place? Formaldehyde--back to high school chemistry class odor. I called Auxilium customer service but did not receive the promised return call and explanation. Some weeks following my second phone call, I received a lawyerly letter the substance of which reads "Upon receipt of the complaint, the Corporate Compliance Department conducted an investigation and it has been recorded and placed on file." This left me feeling like a character in a Woody Allen movie. I investigated further and learned that Auxilium had been acquired. This seemed to parallel the change in formulation that replaced the popular musky aroma with the methanol stench of the current product. Maybe the changed formulation was a cost-saving measure. Whatever the case, I no longer see a reason to pay the higher copay for Testim and will search for a pleasanter smelling alternative that will not repel family and friends.Read More Read Less

I am 50 yrs old and have been taking Testim for about 3 weeks now and my major side effect is the slow shallow breathing at night, sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night gasping for air and since I live alone it can be scary so I'm not sure if I should continue. Just yesterday I saw a tv commercial by lawyers Morgan and Morgan about people who have sufferred heart attacks, strokes and even died from this medication but on the lighter side I am experiencing things I used to experience in my 30's that I guess I just forgot about such as morning erections every morning, waking in the middle of the night with a "pee hard on" where I have to pretty much stand on my head to pee, I haven't masturbated in years and now its everyday so I'm going to continue with this medication for a while longer unless my breathing issues worsen Read More Read Less

I'm shocked that this particular brand is on the market, given how gooey and sticky the gel is. I've been using Androgel for many years, but had to change because my insurance company uped the deductible to $250 for my three months supply. The deductible is $14 for Testim for three months. I am on the highest prescription dosage of both, which was 4 pumps/day of the Androgel and two tubes of this cr*p. Androgel dried very quickly, yet Testim stats very sticky for hours and hours and so clothes stick to it and it has a much higher chance of getting on my girlfriend. There are times where it has been so sticky after application that I had to pull the shirt off where it actually hurt like a band aide. My T count dropped from 900 to 700, even though the amount of testosterone in Testim is about 20% more. So I'm guessing more of Testim is coming off on clothes, sheets, my dog and girlfriend. Absolute miracle drug! Been on 1 tube per day for 5 years. Changed my life. Energy, sexual stamina, lost 50 pounds. My insurance paid for it, then quit. It works so well for me , I paid for it out of my own pocket for 2 years. I had psoriasis, and a month after treatment went away almost completely. Even my doctor gave a report at a medical conference about the dramatic changes that occurred.

after two months my stamina was much better. Could play tennis every day at age 66 and before could only play three times a week. Much stronger on the weight machines. No side effects for me.

The gel has a strong alcohol smell (probably the material to get the skin to absorb it) and my wife says at the end of the day it turns to a body odor. other than that, it works. You have to find a place without hair to rub it in so the shoulders are the best bet. Good news/bad news is that it grows hair where you apply it so i now have a hairy back/upper arms.

46yo with an initial lab result of 319. Having to switch to Fortesta due to insurance. I've been on samples of Testim for 6 weeks. I've had minor side effects including a few unexpected erections and some acne. I haven't really seen a increase in energy, but have seen an increase when I lift and definitely in my libido as well. Overall, I think its an effective medicine. I like that it is applied to the upper arms and shoulders vice the legs.
