I want to start off by saying this drug is a miracle. I was in a rehab center for two weeks to detox off OxyContin. They gave me this drug expecting me to be off it in two weeks. I relapsed 3 days after i was off this medicine because although the physical withdrawals were not present, the psychological cravings were. Also if you are psychologically dependent on this drug your body will stop produ...

Note that most of the reviews are people still ON this very powerful opiate. Very few get off of it, and those that do usually go through 6-24 months of PAWS. It should be a last resort for the hardest core junkies. It's essentailly methadone. Do your homework before you take this garbage...do yourself a favor and go cold turkey or in patient detox...seriously!!

I took prescription opiate pain killers for 20+ years for chronic headaches/migraine. After years of an endless cycle of increasing use and misuse of the pills, I finally submitted to a medical detox to get off them (if you've made the difficult decision to get off the pills (or whatever it is you are taking), then go easy on yourself and do a medical detox if you can. It's much safer and much easier on yourself than going through it on your own!) Then, in steps Suboxone. For me and my family a Godsend! No more lies, no more cravings, no more counting pills, no more withdrawls, no more scheduling everything around where I am on the prescription cycle. I have my life, my family and my freedom back! As for the headaches - the reason for the pills in the first place - the rebound headaches are gone; I have some occasional low-grade headaches but luckily Tylonol and Advil, where-as they did nothing for the headaches before, they now seem to be effective in these instances; I avoid my migraine triggers(mostly) and the Suboxone seems to be helping the rest. I don't know what I will do if a severe headache or migraine strikes; I'm taking that one day at a time. I don't know how long I will stay on Suboxone so my journey continues. I've read some of the horror stories about Suboxone being very difficult to stop after taking it for a few months. I've yet to cross that bridge so I cannot comment. However I can say that my present transition from Suboxone sublingual film to the new generic tablet form dictated by my insurance (currently being contested) was difficult, I have to take double the dose of the tablet as opposed to the film (this is not uncommon, and vica versa for some others). If I knew then what I know now about Suboxone I would have made the decision to stop the pills long ago. I wasted so much time. Don't waste yours, you CAN do this! Read More Read Less

I'm here to speak about the drug; I hope this info helps some people. I'm going to write two posts. I'm not here to be a know-it-all.I am here to share my story and then share the many misconceptions about Suboxone. The basics you all know I'm sure.I have a genetic condition in my spine.I was physically addicted to my doctors' and surgeons' ever changing regimen of full-agonist opiates. Usually a long-acting Oxycontin ER 40-80 mg bid or Opana ER (Oxymorphone) 30-40 mg bid.A breakthrough pain agent, usually Oxycodone 30 mg tid;or Dilaudid (Hydromorphone)4 or 8 mg tid.All people are physically addicted to any opiate with consistent use after 14-30 days. Mental addiction is another ball game. I no longer wanted to be in a fog, but wanted pain control.I did my research on the drug, and doctors in my area.On 1-24-09 I started Suboxone--5 years with the same Dr, I am his only patient on this dose,Buprenorphine 8mg/Naloxone 2mg BID #58.I see the man every 28 days, and have learned so much from him.I wanted to change from learning Buprenorphine is #1 in Europe for pain management. You do not need to be in significant withdrawal before taking Buprenorphine.I took an oxycodone at 6am and by 1pm, Buprenorphine was in my blood and I felt terrific. The patent ran out on Suboxone tablets in March of 2012, thus the generic was available. That ironically spawned Beckitt to formulate the brand-only Suboxone film-strips,released about 8 months prior to their tablet losing its' patent. I have been on 16 mg for 4 years.I handle my mother's medications,I'm around and in Methadone clinics daily for my job--I could care less, and my pain is controlled better.I will explain why the brain acts as it does, the myths, the lies, the truth etc. in my next post so please read it. There is a consequence to the path I chose;I'm not naive,I'm smart. There are full-agonist opiates, partial-agonist opiates. Doctors know nothing about dosing and, more important, tapering. Also, the FDA and why it's all $$$$Read More Read Less

I went on this drug after a brief one year addiction to percocet. I thought i was doing the "right" thing-- the DR told me, if i was a diabetic, id take insulin, right? Fast forward 5 years later...im now on five highly addictive drugs, highest dose of suboxone possible bc anything less i go threw withdraw and have cravings. Im terrified of what i read on what happens when you quit. Noticed the comment about teeth--had beautiful teeth that are now terrible...Realized this is what ill be on the rest of my life-- thought it was a miracle drug, thought it was ok to be on forever...dont know what to think nowRead More Read Less

SHARING THIS as HOPE and INSPIRATION. Want to be as concise as possible, but not sure I can fit everything in that I need to say. Here goes. Degenerative Disc Disease involving lower back and neck. You all know the drill. Pain med dependent for about 3 years, off and on. Finally was SICK of the whole thing and researched Sub and decided to try. Was started on 8mg/2mg strips and after the first HALF strip (4 mgs) realized right then it was TOO MUCH. The drug worked well for what it was intended to do, but I self adjusted and got down to 4 mgs/day within about a month. I took half a strip in the am and in the afternoon to equal the 4mgs. I maintained here for quite awhile and then began my drops. SOME were harder than others. I have documented each drop and ALL side effects and how long they lasted, but cannot fit them all here. I did this to give MYSELF a reminder that the w/d's DO pass. When dropping from 4, I likely went to 3.5, 3.0, 2.5 and then 2mg. They were harder drops, yes...but worth it. At the 2mg mark, I attempted to get down to 1mg and did, but found myself depressed and unable to function. Decided WITH my doc to stay on 2mgs/day and allow my body to get used to this level. THIS spring, I began the SLOW process of weaning in TINY increments. The lower the dose, the lower you need to drop. For instance mine went like this: 2/1.75/1.50/1.25/1.0/.75/.50/.25. I dropped each time MY BODY and BRAIN allowed. Meaning, after I would adjust to the new dose, I would allow myself a grace period of feeling good, before I forced another drop. While it is difficult to cut these into such little pieces, I found that by splitting up doses, no matter how small into TWO doses a day (on .50, I would take .25 in am and .25 in afternoon and each day I would attempt to stretch that second dose a bit farther until one day I would find that I could just skip it and go to bed. (Am going to TRY to submit 2cd review under screen name ESF for rest of story!)Read More Read Less

Became addicted to opiates after 3 major back surgerys. Was being prescribed 150mg of fentanal every 48hrs plus 3-80mg tabs of oxys a day. Tolerance grew so mutch that i was buying off the street as well. Eating so many pills that i got a bleeding ulcer that ate through an artery in my stomach, just about bled to death. That was the wake up call I needed. The sub help tremendously, Id be dead without them.Only issue i see other then cost is that after 3 months my teeth are fragile and crumble.Better than a ruined life though i supposeRead More Read Less

After some serious injuries, all work related, I found myself self medicateing with more and more Opiates. The group I was with, all recovering from various injuries and same company, (a very large company), it was not difficult to aquire many forms of pain relievers which I abused in the guise of "pain relief". Things got way out of hand. Family, friends, personal hate, was comming to a head. Finally, I put myself into a treatment center to finally rid myself of years of abuse. Hell! Ill take the pain! My life was in the tolit! This Dr. Rx'd Suboxone. Finally! A miracle! I could not believe the profound effect it madee with my addiction. Now after aprox two years now, I remain Opiate and Narcotic free.nI have my life back! No one I associate with, ffamily, friends, workmates think I am normal again. They have no idea I am takeing some form of relief for my addictions. I also find it regulates the paiin I continue to suffer with, and certain I will for life. I do not want to be on Suboxone much longer and do not know what to expect getting off them. Ill do what is necessary. To all of you willilng ot get off Narcs and Opiattes, YOU CAN DO IT! God bless you all, their is hope and an answer. Read More Read Less

This drug is life saver. I've had two knee replacements and three back surgeries. I went through TX in 1990, didn't want to go back on Narcotics so when my last back surgery failed my addiction doc put me on subutex for chronic pain. It is less mood altering than percocette or oxycontin and I still have a job. The teeth thing is true. I've lost a lot of teeth probably because my mouth gets very dry. Teeth you can replace pain destroys your life. My dose depends on the pain. Somedays it is 4 others it is 22. No one talks about Subutex Tablets for pain but people but there are other recovering people like me that don't want to go back on their drugs of choice. For those that want to get off of it, see if your MD will give you clonidine. That will take the edge off the withdrawels. Good Luck!Read More Read Less

This medication has been a double-edged sword. It helped tremendously with any withdrawal symptoms and chance of relapse. However, I am dependent on suboxone now. I was told it is 100% safe during pregnancy. This is not true. My child was born dependent on the medication and went through methadone treatment his first month of life. If I had known it posed a risk to my baby, I wouldn't have gotten pregnant until weaning off suboxone completely. A good thing-- my child is 100% healthy and happy today 2yrs later. I do wonder about the effect of this medication on teeth. I have never found any research about suboxone and tooth decay. Read More Read Less

Since being on Suboxone I have experienced an acute episode of renal failure, been diagnosed with a rare bone disease abd gave severe anemia. However, it has taken away my cravings for opiods. I just feel like I am addicted to the Suboxone now!

So I just got my suboxone script. The doctor gave 4mg/1mg dose twice a day. I'm gone start taking it tomorrow. I have to see him once a week and I will be getting a urine test too. The only thing I'm worried about is people saying they have lost their teeth from suboxon is that really true? I asked my doctor about that and he said no. He also said if that happened the FDA would never approve it.

I HAVE BEEN ON SUBOXONE FILM 8mg,3 a day for 5 years.I was reading what others had to say about them.I like so many others have started to lose my teeth. They just started to crumble,I Did not know Suboxone was doing it.I Have never been without them, I have heard a lot of people say they are worse than coming off of pain killers.I have been on the same dose for 5 years. I WOULD CHOOSE TO STAY ON THEM.I HAVE A LONG DRIVE TO GET THEM. THE DR I SEE IS ONLY OUT FOR THE MONEY.HES CHEAPER THAN THE ONES THAT ARE CLOSE TO HOME.IF IT WASNT FOR SUBOXONE I KNOW I WOULD NOT BE HERE. USE YOUR OWN JUDGEMENT ABOUT TAKING THEM.SUBOXONE GAVE ME MY LIFE BACK!!Read More Read Less

i didn't want to marry my wife as an a person chasing oxycontin all around town for a dollar a milligram. it was time for me to get off the "street drugs" and get it together. someone told me that i had a doctor in town that was certified to administer suboxone and i would be able to quit without feeling any withdrawals. once accepted to the program... yes ACCEPTED, i found out my insurance covered the medication as long as i signed something that said i was an opiate addict and passes a monthly drug test. as long as i worked, i could go and get this for "free" (covered by insurance) fast forward 5yrs!! and was still on it. i tried to quit several times because now i don't want to get my wife pregnant while Im on this sh*t. I quit my job and my insurance ran out... I filled my last prescription and decided I'd ween myself off this. I was dissolving less and less and less everyday, stretching a months supply (1 strip a day) from may 31 to aug 15th. then it ran out. i took my last fraction of a strip maybe 1/16 of it then waited. i knew what to expect... i thought. I've been thru a couple of days between refills but nothing prepared me for this. i felt out of body for the next 3 weeks. not a single solid stool movement for weeks. cold arms, hot sweats. always uncomfortable after showers. dripping water, sweaty armpits, lack of any motivation, large pupils, mild hallucinations! the withdraw from suboxone is something that i don't wish upon anyone. its scary. its like i don't have something that my body needs to feel normal, every day. its all i think about. i don't crave the way suboxone makes me feel, its just like without it I'm in trouble. I'd do anything to go back and tackle myself before going into the DR's office and taking my first SUBOXONE! once you take your first one you need it for LIFE! no matter how you drop the dosage, your doomed to a hallucinating withdrawal for at least two weeks. the doctors know all about it. once they got u.Read More Read Less

I have never taken this medicine as prescribed, I am prescribed 4mg/1mg twice a day and at best I may take ONE strip every 2 to 3 days. if I am feeling overly emotional I take one too other than that that's all I take, One dose will get you thru 3 days w/no withdraws its on day 3 that withdraws kick in as Suboxone is a Long acting opiate! I plan to come off completely as soon as I can ( I get my life in better order) I have only been on this drug for 2 months. However, I wont tell the drs they are overmedicating me just incase My insurance starts refusing to pay I have some to lean on and hopefully start weening off of. I have heard horrible horror stories about long term use like peoples teeth falling out and horrible withdraw symptoms worse than reg. opiates. Also, The drs thinks they got u by the balls and make you jump thru all kinds of hoops for this medicine..(more group therapy, 12 step meetings) Its bullshit. So now, I don't have an illegal drug dealer to jump thru hoops but now have a legal one, how is this ANY BETTER? Read More Read Less

Not sure if this will go through but I have to ask...I read the reviews of the 1st 30 pages and nowhere in here did anyone make mention about their "Pain Level" while on Suboxone. A Dr I went to for the 1st time spent no time with me, at all, and prescribed me this medicine. I had back surgery, which was a failure, and now I must take my pain medicine. I don't take more than I am supposed to, most months & still have med's left. I don't understand? I'm not addicted. I am however dependent on my med's because if I don't have hem, I will be confined to my bed in severe pain. So...I have not filled my script. What about the pain? Is everyone in here taking this solely because they are addicted to pain pills? I mean...does anyone even NEED the pain med's? Just curious. Shouldn't the Dr have examined me? Asked me what medicines I am taking, other than my Norco & Soma (cause that was ALL he asked about)? I understand there is a conflict with Anti-depressants and the like, as well as with Anxiety medications. They gave me a pamphlet. It states in there that "Suboxone Film is not indicated for the treatment of pain". So I wonder...why am I to take it? I am just so confused. Ty!Read More Read Less
