I was taking Methotrexate injections for 5 years. Because of my age my new RA doctor wanted to switch me off to try Sulfasalazine for reproduction reasons. I have been on Sulfasalazine (2x AM - 2x PM) for about 9 months and I love it! The only side effect I have noticed is the color change of my urine. Other than that blood work is all normal. I've only experienced ONE mild flare up once over the ...

Took a few months to start seeing the affects; I am now pretty much asymptomatic. Did lose my sense of taste for almost a year, but that recently came back and I can taste everything again. No side affects for my liver at all. Methotrexate was very bad for my liver. I am satisfied with this medication.

Worked very very slow but after 1.5 years symptoms (pain) was gone but still didn't have strength back in my hands. Then it came back on very fast. It's now been three years and still pain. I don't care for sulfasalazine, only working partially for me and I'm stuck with doctors that can't listen.

I have been taking this medication for approx. 5 years, and it's been effective. Up until several months ago, when I started experiencing more pain and swellness in my joints. It seems my pain has been increasing to the point where I believe it's no longer effective for me.

This medicine sent me into liver failure, with liver enzymes at 700 after taking it for only 1 month. I nearly died. I took aloe juice and organic food to recover. I am now allergic to rice, potatoes, tomatoes, black pepper, bananas, onions, and chilis. I also cannot take any modern medications since I will always get the side effects. This medicine changed my life. My eyelashes fell out and I got severe ulcers in my mouth and intestines. I took this medicine for Spondyloarthritis. I'm now wondering if I don't even have it to begin with. I think I may have had food allergies in which I have joint pain from and not the typical food allergy symptoms. The reason is because when I eat foods that I make homemade, I mysteriously go into remission. When I have rice, my joint pain and ibs come back. I never had hives or anything like that. However, the food allergies were making my joints and bowels swell. If you are diagnosed with a Rheumatoid like condition or any other auto-immune disease, please get a full panel of food allergy tests first before taking any meds. Read More Read Less

My side effects seem to be worse than the symptoms that this medicine is supposed to relieve. I have a metallic taste in my mouth, sporadic feelings of fullness, slight nausea and reflux.

When doctor wanted me to start taking methotrexate. I researched that drug and did not like what I was reading. Found SSZ thru online search and asked to try that instead. Docs was ok with that, but said he had more confidence in MTX. Been taking 500mg of SSZ 2X/day for 2 1/2 years, now. Took several months for it to start working, but has been very effective since then. No see effects that I can identify. Glad I tried SSZ instead of MTX.

Overall this has been a good medication for me but the amount was excessive and I had quite a bit of hair loss with UTI's. Toleration to the light is almost unbearable though, my eyes hurt.

I am taking this for Psoriatic Arthritis. I have been on this since 5/10, currently 2 pills a day, will eventually be at 4 pills a day. Arthritis pain is subsiding. Side effects: 1st week headache and upset stomach if not taken with full meal. 2nd week (Easter weekend) Horrible headache for 48 hrs. This was after the increase of dose. I have gained 5 lbs since being on this and eating habits not changed, always feel full??? BAFFELED! I drink a lot more fluid. Having an increased amount of hot flashes since starting this medication, dont know if its related though. Hopefully the pain will continue to diminish as I continue.Read More Read Less

I was diagnosed with RA about 8 months ago at 47 years old. This is the 1st medicine I've been prescribed w/ Prednisone 5 mg. I have now increased to 3 500 mg tabs 2 times a day and stopped the Prednisone. Pain is definitely decreased. Hands are no longer swollen. I can type all day at work, like I used to with no problem. I still have slight pain in my knees and shoulders, but it is tolerable. I am very active and can do everything again. Side effects: At first I had very dry skin, where thumbs were cracking and hurt (I thought it was because fall and winter just came). I am very thirsty especially at night wake up dry mouth. I am so tired at times too. My hair is falling out, not a lot, but definitely notice when brushing hair. I get Severe Headaches, Sick, Vomiting if I drink alcohol (couple of beers or glasses of wine), just realized it was because of the meds. Also, my face is swollen (around eyes) in the morning when I wake up. My blood tests are good though. The on call doctor told me to stop the med, but I am going to talk to my doctor on Monday. I like NOT hurting like I used to. Is there something better (doubtful) ?? Read More Read Less

Was given this for lupus. The first week I had nagging headaches all day everyday for almost two weeks. Now my left leg is swelling and going numb and very painful. My face is swollen especially around my eyes and seems to blurry vision. I can move my fingers more easily, but don't think it's worth it. I will be stopping it.
