I was taking Methotrexate injections for 5 years. Because of my age my new RA doctor wanted to switch me off to try Sulfasalazine for reproduction reasons. I have been on Sulfasalazine (2x AM - 2x PM) for about 9 months and I love it! The only side effect I have noticed is the color change of my urine. Other than that blood work is all normal. I've only experienced ONE mild flare up once over the ...

DR prescribed 500mg - 2 tabs 2X day for RA. First few months were OK as I taking 1/4 the DR. recommended dosage per DRs orders. Nausea was a problem, but not unbearable. DR. slowly upped dosage as I could tolerate (add 1 tab per week to max dosage). After 6 mo. I developed extremely painful blisters over 70% of my body, including inside my mouth, nose and eyes, I began to bruise very easily and horribly - to the point my friends were asking if my husband was abusing me. I developed bleeding gums and frequently had blood in my urine. Major intestinal issues....I kept calling DR w/ reports of new side effect weekly -- but was told to "hang in there". I finally just stopped taking it and threw it in the trash! I literally wanted to die I hurt so bad....I've been off now for about 5 mo and still have occasional problems. I would much rather deal with the pain and inflammation and sore joints those horrible side effects. Appt coming up in Nov -- not sure I want to try anything else at this point.....Read More Read Less

I never write reviews so...DEFINITLEY consider giving this a try!!! Read More Read Less

I have proctitis; was prescribed this drug. I experienced debilitating fatigue almost immediately. I was unable to function -- could not leave my house, or do anything except lie on the sofa. Also frequent dizziness. I stopped taking it after 25 days.

Have been on SSZ for 5 years now to treat RA in hands. 500 mg 2X/day. It took a few months for RA pain relief to kick-in, but after that the results have been very good, with no side effects and blood work great. Doctor had prescribe methotrexate, but I did not like what I read about it. He agreed to my request to try SSZ instead and I am very happy with results.

I was diagnosed with PA about a year ago. I started on Meloxicam, which helped some, then 3 months later added sulfasalazine. It took a month or so, but I have felt 100% better for sure. Only side effect has been orange pee, which is kinda fun anyway.

I have a liver disease but my doctor put me on it anyway. I do not qualify to take mexatetrate because of my liver. I take 2/500mg a day, 1/200mg of hydroquine, was taking prednisone but had side effects. So now taking 2/500 mg of vimovo… was on cimzia injections but they were ineffective, starting acterma soon, via intravenous infusion. So far I have no improvement. Feel tired, nauseous, in pain, depressed, just unwell in general.

I have ankylosing spondylitis and have been taking 1000 mg twice a day for 2 yrs. Aside from occasional dizziness that could be attributed to other medications, I have experienced good health and 90% reduction in pain. I have tried reducing my milligram intake but have found 2000 mg per day dosing is most effective for me.

Started taking 2x500 mg twice a day 2 months ago along with hydroxychloroquine 200 mg twice daily and prednisone 5 mg once daily.I get no relief and the pain is increasing to unbearable levels .Only relief I get is if I stop prednisone for four days and take 5 X 5mg pills in one dose.It buys me one day of relief.Bad place to be and is causing depression to set in.

So far I haven't seen any improvement in my RA. I have only been on the drug for 1 month, and will give it more time. I am also on 10mg/d prednisone, MTX 25mg/wk, hydroxychloriquine 400mg/d. RA diagnosed about 1-1/2 years ago and my rhuematologist keeps adding drugs. The only relief was when I was on 20mg/pred daily. Not a great option!

I have been on SSZ for less than a week. Constant headache, nausea with periodic vomiting. No improvement to pain of spondyloarthritis in hands so far. Contacting my doctor to discuss side effects and possible interaction with folic acid as I am on methotrexate too along with several other medicines including prednisone.

I used this over six months then I started having Rosacea and horrible itching on arms, and chest. Decided it had to be this drug; so researched on line and stopped taking immediately. Symptoms stopped in one to two weeks.

I am taking this because of "inflammatory arthritis mainly affecting my fingers. I am taking it along with hydroxychlooquine and my symptoms have been reduced to a remarkable degree. Weather seems to be the only thing which causes me pain now. The problem I am seeing now is a significant decrease in RBC WBC Plt. and hemoglobin. I have fallen out of the normal range.
