I am allergic to sulfa and also mesalamine which limits me for treatment of ulcerative proctitis. These retention enemas have been a lifesaver to me. I am currently tapering off after a 3 month bout of UP. I have used them for years when I have a flare up and always have good results.

I am now on medication of Mesalamine Supp. and my condition has not been improved. I am thinking to use Hydrocortisone Rectal. Please any one let me know whether this medicine is better. Thanks

I too am on a max dose of mesalamine (oral) & have used mesalamine enemas & suppository. 1 year consistent flare. Trying biologics to induce remission. I do not respond well to cortisone. I have Bone loss, & experienced sweating, sleeplessness & slight burn after less than 5 days of Cort enema. Mainly my trouble is retaining medicine my spasms are strong/powerful. I feel the mesalamine is thicker & much less side effects.

I have been working on getting a positive result with my medications for over a year. I am on the max dose for mesalamine, so my doctor put me on these enemas and I have found that they are not working for me at all. I have been using them for over a month now.
