I had thick, yellow and black nails for years but was reluctant to take the medication due to cost and possible side effects. When it infected my right thumb I decided to take the risk and AM DELIGHTED that I did. The generic version is very affordable and I had no side effects what so ever. I also had thick cracked heals. Two years later I still have healthy feet and nails and can now wear sa...

I have been fearful of taking this medicine for some many years due to the intensity of it and possible harm. Therefore I have exhausted every cream, nail polish treatment, holistic approach, all of it. I have dealt with the toenail fungus for going on 20 years now and it is slowing spreading. I finally decided to try the lamisil (terbinifine) oral medication. I detoxed my body from all alcohol and cleaned up my diet for 2 weeks prior to starting. The first couple days I had a little headache and some queasiness. After that I was golden. Drank a ton of water to make sure I was always flushing out my liver. Literally zero side effects for 26 days! On day 26 I woke up itching all over my body, my lips swelled up, and I had these large welts that were hot to the touch. I had to stop treatment and I am so disappointed as I just started to notice my toenails growing in clear. Now I am on a round of steroids to alleviate the allergic reaction. Really bummed and wonder if I’ll ever be able to get rid of this problem of toenail fungus. Read More Read Less

2 months in and toenail fungus still there and I now have absolutely no taste. Back to the doctor to try alternatives and await blood test for any liver damage... no-one mentioned this before I took them.

I had gotten a bad case of fungus under one nail due to an "athletes foot" infection 30 years ago. Over the decades it had spread to all other toenails, and I was hopeless and really had a hard time "cutting" my toenails every 4 weeks or so as they were weird shapes and thick. My podiatrist was so confident in this medication that told me he would "prescribe Terbafine to (my) dad, brother or myself," and I decided to take the chance. I am 52 years old and in relatively good health. Upon starting my course of medication I felt "flushing" and a little light headed in the mornings as a result of taking the pills each day with breakfast. One thing which helped was to have two huge glasses of water first thing after I took my pill. (I had a 12 week or 84 pill cycle) Once the 84 or so days passed, not much had changed from my perspective, and a month later I went to my podiatrist again and at the appointment asked for an additional round of the medication. He said, to my disbelief, that things were going great with killing off my infection. 8 months later, I realize he was correct. It appears the infection is completely gone. Now, I am not naiive, and am still holding my breath, but things look normal (?) and completely clear when I look at my toes. I am so grateful. One way I know I must no longer have an infection is that whereas before I had to cut my toenails every four weeks or so (I believe this was my immune response attempting to "get our the invader"). Now, I can go months without cutting them, and they are seemingly growing normally. I used this medication in combination with a "polish-on" topical treatment, which was prescribed by my podiatrist, and the combination seemed to work quite well. There will be a financial cost to throwing out all of your socks, and (as I did) getting new shoes, as well as paying for the medications, but it was a commitment I was ready to make. I know this medication isn't for everyone, and that some have had terrible side effects as a result of taking it, but it was really a great thing for me. I hope this review gives some people hope and answers some questions you may have. Good luck and God Bless.Read More Read Less

My wife took terbinafine for six weeks. At about that time she lost her ability to taste but smell was unaffected. Her doctor discontinued the med. After about 10 days taste suddenly came back. She is a great cook and was freaked out about not being able to taste her product.

Many people seem to have terrible reactions to this medication; not so for me. I took it 20 years ago for fungal toenails and within 3 months I had beautiful nails. I had no negative side-effects whatsoever. In 2022 I damaged my nailbed again, this time on a long walk, and the fungus returned. I'm now taking Terbinifine again and am two-thirds through the course and my nails are clearing brilliantly. Again, no side-effects. It's probably worth a try as you may be one of the population who is perfectly fine using the drug. If you have a bad reaction, simply stop using, and finger and toenails crossed you find something else that works for you. Read More Read Less

I took this medication 20 or so years ago. The toenail fungus went away even though I had to stop taking because my liver was being affected. The fungus came back so I decided to give it another try. Didn't have problems with liver but my sense if taste is completely gone. Everything taste like cardboard and always a salty taste in my mouth. Even water tastes salty. I took my last pill on 7-23-22 with no improvement. Sweets are especially disgusting. I am terrified it will not come back.Read More Read Less

Started taking for toenail fungus in both big toes. Week 5 I developed a rash on my stomach and back. Went to dermatologist and was prescribed steroid cream. Cream temporarily relieved itch but now rash has spread to large spots on arms and thighs. Discontinuing this - not worth the itch and ugliness of rash.

Took terbinafine for 55 days. Thought I had food poisoning and ended up in ER. No bugs were detected upon blood work and CAT scan. Still suffering from nausea, stomach upset, and everything tasting like cardboard. I have been off 10 will no relief from side effects. Toenails do seem to be growing in but too early to tell. Did NOT know that your not supposed to drink coffee while taking. NO ONE said that permanent taste loss was a risk. The minute I started no tasting food I should have stopped the medications!Read More Read Less

Toenail fungus but with 3 months of Terbinafine it is clearing up! Side effects, fatigue for 3 months. The first few weeks extreme fatigue, nausea but realized it needs to be taken with food. It does cause dizziness and muscle aches, mine was in my lower legs, for the full 3 months. It was worth it and I am so very thankful this is available. The first six to eight weeks are the most severe but keep taking it if you can handle the side effects. You will be glad you did.

I've been on this medicine for a little less than 3 weeks. My doctor prescribed it for 3 months. Well I don't think I'm going to make it 3 months. This medicine has the worst side effects I have ever experienced. 1st week I had awful headaches. Going into 2nd week add nausea n diarrhea. Top that off with now everything taste like cardboard n salt. N I have not noticed any difference in my toenails. Going to call my doc n see about other options. This is too much.

I took this medication only for 4 days and stopped due to very bad and constant stomach cramps, extra gas an diarrhea starting day 2-3. I rather having toe fungus than going trough such health issues and upset at the “high end Beverly Hills” doctor that even did not mention any possible such side effects.

While the med helped to clear up the fungal infection, it has terrible side effects. After taking it 5 weeks, I lost all sense of taste and occasional loss of sense of smell. Everything I ate tasted like cardboard with a thick layer of salt on it. My mouth constantly tasted like I was swallowing very strong salt water. I stopped taking the med 5 days ago, but still cannot taste anything but the salt flavor in my mouth. I understand there are other ways to handle my toenail fungus and I really wish I had been told about the alternatives (cream or lotion) by my doctor. Read More Read Less

I have tried terbinafine twice, years apart. 3 weeks into treatment I get bad diarrhea and start vomiting. So then I go off it. It does fix 50% of my toenail fungus. But getting sick is my limit. Try with caution, stop when/if sick.

I was put off using this medication for about 10 years because of the scary side effects. Toenail fungus wouldnt clear no matter what i did and affected my confidence as i am a young woman. 3 months in to taking Terbinafine and i have suffered no side effects whatsoever and fresh normal toenails are beginning to grow through! I expect to take it for another 3 months but overall.. Amazing!

I just finished taking my first 45 days of pills followed by a blood test to check my liver function. Before taking, my liver function was perfect. After, all my numbers are elevated and show possible liver damage from taking this med. I’m not a drinker, so this is obviously from this medication. I’ve stopped the pills with the doctor’s blessing and now have a new issue to address besides a little toenail fungus. I’ve not really experienced any improvement to my toenails. Definitely do not recommend this drug.Read More Read Less

Big toenail had been slowly deteriorating despite using several topical treatments. Terbinafine HCL was easy and cost effective. Since the progress is hard to see, it took a month for me to be sure the infection had stopped spreading. The 90 day regiment did the trick...for the toe fungus, almost normal nail 4 months after last pill. I had been having recurring stomach pain for 6 months PRIOR to starting this medicine, originally due to getting COVID-19, so its hard to say if it caused it, but I certainly had a higher incidence of stomach pain while on it along with a rash. I was also taking a muscle relaxer, methocarbamol, and strong anti-inflammatory for back pain, Diclofenac, so it was hard to be sure if it was one of the drugs or the same cause as before I started them. It has since been determined that I had gall stones and pancreatic cancer, both of which case stomach pain that is often indistinguishable. It is hard to know if Terbinafine HCL caused or aided the cancer. It may have caused pain that prompted me to seek medical help that led to an earlier diagnosis. In any case, life has changed dramatically as this form of cancer is very aggressive.Read More Read Less

Terrible stuff. I wouldn’t advise anyone to take it, especially in an older age group. After 3 weeks with some diarrhoea and the occasional headache I developed a loss of taste very quickly. I immediately stopped taking the tablets and contacted my doctor. According to the half life of this drug, I can expect to have no sense of taste for st least a month, maybe longer as I’m in the older age group.

Worst medication you can take. I experienced diarrhea, headaches, lower back pain and joint pain on my legs. The pain on my legs is unbearable and I cannot wait to get better. I’ve lost plenty of sleep due to this

Took this medication for toenail fungus on three nails for one foot. Followed doctor's orders, took one pill a day for 30 days, & stayed away from alcohol. Had no side effects & was easy to take with a glass of water but condition never changed & fungus continued.

During the third week of use I started developing a rash over my upper body and arms. By 30 days after starting the terbinafine I had the rash all over my body. I stopped taking the drug and the rash immediately began to clear; one month later the rash was gone.
