I have been dealing with chronic pain for years. This med is pretty helpful. I use it along with a muscle relaxant and one for nerve pain. The three together work in concert, but it's not all that great on it's own, because it's one I've developed a tolerance to. I am fortunate to be one who does not develop addictions, but dependency is inevitable, when used for as long as I have. The current dem...

Sensory nerve pain in left pinkie and ring finger. Pain also on left side of left hand with palm down. Sometimes the pain goes up to the elbow but that is as far as it has gone.

Switched from Oxy 30 to Dil 8mg for break through pain. Head feel foggy like I have a cold, headache, and tension in neck. Just started it so am hoping things get better. Takes pain down but the effect is short lived.

I have been on 6mg 3x per day but I notice it seems to wear off fast.I have been taking it about 8 hrs apart but the pain hits pretty bad at 6 hrs so think meds have to adjusted in order for them to work better.

I was taking Oxicontin 80mg 2x per day for lower disc herniation L4 - L5. Injury sustained 12-years ago. Have been through many different pain meds which helped only to a point. My pain management doctor put me on 4mg 4x per day which did not help. I have only been on this med for 5-days, but I seem to have a high tolorance to all meds. This helps faster than the oxicontin, but drops off too quickly for me. My thoughts are that my pain management doctor put me on too low of a dose to start. I believe this treatment will help better than other meds tried, if dosage is increased by my doctor.Read More Read Less

Hydromorphone 4 mg was one of three different pain medications prescribed to me for pain following rotator cuff surgery. I worked pretty well as best I could tell. (I was asleep most of the time) It was definately better than the Demerol. My time of use was short, 2 days use for the first sholder and about one day for the second.

I was born with ortho issues, was treated at a pediatric ortho facility from age 5 to 13, did pt and wore a lift on my shoes. I worked for 30 years and injured my back during a move 5 years ago. I was dx 20 years ago with degen disc and degen joints plus fibro. At the time I was given skelaxin and Tylenol 3. This was sufficient and only taken rarely until I injured my back again. I went through various muscle relaxers in combination with pain killers due to allergic reaction/drug sensitivities to NSAIDS and Anti-Depressants, the most common form of treatment for my dx. I now have spinal stenosis, some herniations, need both knees replaced and annular tear, neuropathies to the point I don't know which limb will be numb and when, myoclonic jerks, urinary issues, and fibro to boot. Last year I was hit by a car when walking across the highway and now have metal rods, pins and constant shin pain. I was functional and relatively pain free for 2 years on a combination of 4mg Dilaudid 6 times per day, 10mg Valium 4 times per day, 350 mg Carisoprodol 4 times per day and 350mg Gabapentin 3 times per day. Unfortunately, when I moved to Florida, they took me off Dilaudid cold turkey to where I vomited for 4 dayd and was in excruciating pain. I was put back on Dilaudid 4 times per day and Valium reduced to 3 times per day. Now I'm back to non-functionality and almost constant pain with maybe an hour of relief 3 times a day. I overcame the constipation issue with granola bars. Doctors will not fix my knees as they say my back cannot support this. Dilaudid is the wonder drug for me, but not at this reduced level. Don't move to Florida if you really need it.Read More Read Less

I take 2mg every 6 hours for pain. It takes the pain away but doesn't last anywhere near 6 hours. It's a very short period of time before the pain starts to return.

I just started taking this medication so i can't really give a total comment. My L1-L6 are herniated, pinched nerve in neck, Arthritis in lower back and dislocated collarbone.Ive had steroid injections, nerve blockers and Radio Frequency Abalation. Been on Percocet 5/325 then 10/325 for several years just switched to Hydromorphone 8mg every 4hrs, 2days ago. So far nothing, a tiny bit light headed but pain is still in the neck, shoulder blade and back of my head. I hope this works because the percocet no longer did. I guess after taking them so long I became immune to them. I wish all posters at the least a PAIN-FREE DAY with many more to follow.Read More Read Less

I had a complete knee replacement and hydromorphone was perscribed for pain. It did control the pain and made it easier to exercise sooner. However it is easy to become addicted to this drug and takes easing off it by decreasing dosage per day slowly and the side effects become evident when first reducing the number of pills per day. It is difficult to deal with pain and exercise with the distress of the reduced hydromorphone or dilaudin. This leaves one to decide whether to wait to get off the drug or do it sooner rather than later.Read More Read Less

I have fibromyalgia and have tried a variety of pain medication. This drug taken as prescribed have worked better than any other medication that I have taken. I also have more energy than I have with other pain meds.

i had an appendectomy and was given 2 mg hydromorphone for pain. I took is every four hours and my pain was okay but it sure didn't relieve it completely. I didn't ask my doctor for an increased dose - didn't want to sound like a drug seeker. Also, maybe it did a wonderful job on the pain and I just didn't know how much pain I would have been in if I wasn't taking this as prescribed.
