This medication was a miracle drug for me and I believe it saved my life. I have ms and in OCt was exposed to mold and haven't been able to get straightened out since. I also had a uti and middle ear infection and sinus and bronchitis and this drug has made me feel so much better. It's rated #1 for saving my life!!!!!

I took this medicine for an infected case of shingles which cleared up fine but on day 10 of taking this medicine, I woke in the night itching. In the morning I discovered I was covered head to toe in an itchy rash. So I've traded one misery for another...not cool.

Was prescribed for a Urinary Tract Infection. First day had extreme nausea, stomach cramps, and could not sleep. Second day, only took half the dose and had stomach cramping and diarrhea . Back to regular dose on third day and had abdominal cramping and lower back pain. Seems like the side effects of this drug are worse than the original condition it was being prescribed for. Will ask for something different next time.

Thought I was crazy until I read other reviews here. The medication did relieve my sinus infection symptoms, but the side-effects are many and sometimes quite severe: nausea, stomach cramping, indigestion, body aches, low-grade fever, sleeplessness and nervous/anxious feeling. I am on day 7 and praying no skin rashes pop up before I finish my 10 day prescription. Since I am allergic to other alternatives, I am glad it is available. On day 8 I broke out in a serious rash. It looked like a combination of hives and chicken pox. Red swollen bumps all over my body. Head to bottom of feet. Stopped medication 24 hours ago still waiting for rash to go away. It is worse today than yesterday. Hopefully will go away soon.

Severe BLOODY diarrhea within the first 2 hours of first dose. Took only 3 doses with non-relenting bloody stools/mucus, stomach bloating & pain, insomnia, and fever/chills+>(could be a result of the infection). Doctor is switching my anti-biotic effective immediately.

Took 3 doses seemed to help with my sinus infection but the side effects are awful! Have been very nauseous, extremely anxious, lethargic, just plain miserable. I'll take my sinus infection over this any day!Hope it doesn't take forever to get out of my system.

Bactrim DS is a horrible drug. I was on it for 5 days before i noticed any side effects. Puking, all body aches, fevers, diarrhea, and shivers. Horrible flue type stuff. The worst thing also was it made my breath smell horrible for 3 days after i stopped, my own breath was making my food taste bad enough to stop eating. Tasted like rusty medal with every bite. Brushing, mouthwash, tongue scraper, nothing worked.

I had an upset stomach, chills and sweats at night, constipation, and slight headache. Also felt wired with it. If it worked it was worth it but the side affects are difficult.

I am down to the last dose. I couldn't figure out why I keep having a fever,shaking chills (usually at night), and slight nausea. After looking up the side effects and reading everyone's comments, I now understand. For me, I think the medication did more to make me feel ill than the original infection/illness. I won't be taking this again.

having problemd sleeping

i have had a uti since may that has not responded to other antibiotics (cipro, macrobid, amoxicillan, suprax are others i've taken). i tried bactrim in early june after cipro failed and after taking 2 pills was up all night violently ill, vomiting, chills. i went off it and tried other antibiotics, but nothing worked. they sent my urine for testing and found the only thing that would kill the infection was bactrim. i took 2 pills yesterday and was fine during the day, then last night woke up around 330am with the worst headache of my life, my neck was stiff and the back of my head was throbbing. i took 2 aleve and when i woke up it was better but my neck is still stiff and the base of my head still aches. thankfully i haven't had the vomiting i had the last time i was on it. i absolutly hate this medicine and am only taking it cause its the only antibiotic that will kill the infection and 8 months of trying other ones and no solution has left me really with no choice. thankfully i only have 5 1/2 days of hell left. oh and don't forget to eat when u take it, apparently thats why i got sick.Read More Read Less

Double ear infection- started bactrim 3 days ago.. severe headache.. feel worse taking the medicine than I did when I just had the ear infections. I get migraine headaches and these are almost as bad as one of them. I am going to stop taking it and just deal with it.. it is a holiday weekend so I can't get ahold of my doctor until monday and I am not going to go to the ER- uggh.. just gonna go to bed early.. it is Christmas eve anyway... hopefully I can get rid of the headache before the family celebrationRead More Read Less

worked great and didn't upset my stomach

I took Bactrim for ten days with no problem then developed a bad rash and was up all night itching. My Dr. told me I was having a reaction and to take Benedryl daily and a steriod (40mg) for two days. The rash went away so I quit taking the Benedryl on day 4 (after the rash) now my cheeks are getting red again (my rash started there). I havent taken any more Bactrim since Thursday evening, it's now Monday afternoon, how long does this stuff stay in your system?

While the accompanying literature doesn't mention it as a side effect, there are anecdotal reports that Bactrim causes some patients to experience heightened anxiety and even panic attacks. While this is nothing more than anecdotal, I also experienced strongly uncomfortable anxiety and finally had to use Xanax to balance the effects. In my case, I would not use Bactrim again.
