For a couple sleepless nights,I had severe couphing "episodes"(as I called them)... to the point of choking / gagging. My regular doctor was not available so I went to an urgent care type of provider for help. After initial exam, and x rays, was told I had a bit of bronchitis and what my options were for medical treatment.#1 Mucinex or #2 Codein. I was told if it(coughing) was keeping me up at...
Im not very happy with this medicine... Have had a chronic cough for months, and the doctor has given me this a few times. Dont really help.

Medication works immediately. You only take every 12 hours, it will give you a buzz when you start taking it. It is nice to be able to sleep and not cough all night long.

Was prescribed for bronchitis and poor sleep as a result of the cough. Very high tolerance to meds, specifically narcotics. The med works but did not knock me out as expected. Perhaps at 200lbs I am larger than the study groups. It was effective in minimizing the night cough. Very surprised by the taste. Not bad at all. Considering the potency of the med, I would have imagined they would have made the taste very poor to discourage children and addicts.

Being extremely allergic to codeine, this is one of the only alternatives. Now, it does have hydrocodone in it....that is not codeine. I suffer from sinuses, allergies, asthma, and at least 2 spells of bronchitis a year. Ecspecially after moving to Texas. No OTC cough syrup works for me, and bc I am deathly allergic to codeine, this is the only alternative for me. My only complaint is that my insurance only covers so much and no matter the size, it is still very expensive, but very worth it. I helps ease my coughing, and the pain from the coughing and soreness in my throat, etc. I have also found that it helps in breaking up the congestion in my chest/head. I have been using this for years, and I have never had a problem. I just follow directions as ordered by my doctor. The taste is a little sugary,so I am sure to brush my teeth after I take it. Tussionex is worth the money, and works great. It stops coughing, and the uncomfortableness associated with it. Read More Read Less

I have been taking this only for 2 days to relieve a bad cough as night. It takes about 30 minutes to really stop the cough, but I was never so happy to wake up in the morning realizing I slept through the night.

Does great to relieve the cough from my bronchitis/pneumonia. Also does very well at relieving the pain associated with that cough. Lasts a long time so that I am not having to take it over again several times a day. Only twice. If I get either condition again, I hope the doctor prescribes it again.

I take this for sinus-cough if needed. Would like to say that I also am a recovering addict. I do not abuse, nor do I want to, only to calm the cough so that I can sleep. When taken correctly it works well. Have only been in recover for 1 year and this medication has not made me want to use again.

I was given this medication by my docter for a terrible cough i had that kept me up all night with sour throat and pains in my side. i had no idea that this medication was like this. keep in mind i have been in recovery for 18 yrs when my docter told me i should take it, i assumed he new best i had never felt so bad off on a medication before this mixed with the feeling if gave me like i was on herion, straching, talikng constantly, busy, could not sleep sweating, dry mouth, very blurred vision confused, loopy and a numb feeling all over my body from head to toe. it worked so good and the feeling made me want to get more i somehow got another bottle and drank both of them with in 5 days. i was not hooked on the syrup i was hooked on the feeling.when my friend ask me if i started usung again i bulb went off i was abusding prescription drugs something i never did. i felt like a fool i went to work for 5 days confused and started to become parinode. i came home took a long hot bath got 3 days from work threw out the rest of the syrup and prayed thats when all the shit hit the fan i had diarehea, hot and cold flashes, trouble breathing, constant sweat, stoamch cramps loss of appetite for 3 days exactly my heart was beating so fast i wanted to go to the hospital because i knew i had poisoned myself. but what will other people think i thought? so i stayed in bed and wrestle with myself i think i was one dose from death it has been one week now and i still feel a little loopy and numb. do you think i damage something in my brain cells by doing this? i have other conditions like diabetes, and high blood pressure i feel like such a fool what was i thinking that will never happen again i even quit smoking after that. I have a chronic cough that pulmonary doctors and asthma/allergists cannot seem to find out what is causing it. I have been taking tussionex on and off for the past 6 months. My whole quality of life changes when I am not constantly coughing. Drs. do not want me to take it all the time, due to it can be addictive, but it has sure made a different with my coughing. When I don't take it, I am miserable - coughing all day long, sometimes until I throw up.

In my opinion the best cough and cold medicine available by prescription. It's like Nyquil on steroids. Clears up cough and stuffiness quickly. It will make you drowsy and might make your thinking unclear. So only take this before bedtime and allow for at least 8 hours of sleep.

I am very happy with tussionex..I have cough from several conditions that no other cough medication or allergy medication could stop..I have chf, alergies, and bronchitis alot..The main problem I have with this medication is the physicians do not want it used on a regular basis and it makes me so angry.. I do not abuse this drug I only use it when I have to..

One important note - if you take this medication, take it before going to bed, and make sure you are going to get at least 8 hours' sleep. Otherwise, you will wake up feeling groggy and have problems concentrating.

This is a great cough medicine--it will make the cough go away. But it's VERY strong and the side effects will last all 12 hours before the next dose. I got dizzy, confused, had problems urinating and felt itchy all over and the symptoms didn't go away for 12 hours because the suspension is long-lasting. Do yourself a favor and just get a regular 4-hour cough medicine.

this drug, hands down is the best cough suppresent and decongestant i have ever used, however, a caution to people who have had problems with opiate dependencies, this stuff is very abusable and may reactivate your opiate addiction if abused, as in guzzling from the bottle rather than taking as prescribed. please exercise caution and avoid alcohol and sedatives with this medication.

I am very prone to bronchitis which lingers for 2-3 weeks with nasty, rib-crunching cough. This cough syrup is the ONLY medication that eases my cough. Mostly, I use it to help me sleep at night, but I also try to go to bed earlier than usual because of the lingering effects the next morning. Have not had bad dreams, but HAVE had very interesting and creative ones on this med! I highly recommend it, but also highly recommend short-term usage and strict adherence to dosing instructions.
