have suffered chronic diarrhea for 22yrs! Daily doses of immodium have increased these last few months; from 1-2 pills each morning to now 6 or more per day! It's worked to treat symptoms of an ad of yet undiagnosed issue I've had for almost 10 years. It usually starts working within 30 minutes of taking it; will take one before meals if I know that the food will cause problems.

didn't realize intestinal spasms were a form of IBS; child does not have any "bathroom issues," just stomach cramping due to anxiety. first took imeprozol for 30 days & did not work-pain was not acid-related. dicyclomine stops the painful cramping and uneasy feeling; after 6 mo, are now only taking when symptoms present. works great for my child. looking for a homeopathic remedy that does the same thing, but to date have not been successful to find one that works.

While taking this medication, my stomach pains were almost identical to not taking medication at all. In addition, I was extremely tired and suffered from slightly blurred vision.

I have IBS for 30 years. Controlled it with donnatel/Belladonna with great success. Since that drug was discontinued, I have been using dicyclomine for 2 months. Does not help with the cramping or gas. Xanax works better.

My doctor diagnosed me with irritable bowel syndrome less than two weeks ago. Since I was prescribed this medication, I have had a sever dry mouth, bloating, constipation and severe stomach cramps. I have also been extremely flush and have had a slight rash. I have quit taking it and I am calling my doctor in the morning to see if there is another approach to her diagnosis.

For my IBS and sometimes VERY painful stomach cramps, this drug has been a holy grail, a lifesaver. The only side effect I can perceive is mild dry mouth. I cannot tell you what a HUGE difference Bentyl has made in my life. Extremely happy!

So, today makes day 3 that I've been taking this medication. I do have to say since taking it I haven't had the painful spasms in my colon that Ive been suffering from for years! However, on day 1 of taking this, I came down with the flu, I now have extreme diarrhea and have been trying to research if its a side effect from the medication, or part of the flu. Has anyone else had extreme diarrhea as a side effect?

My symptoms: - Usually occurs when I ate big meals with high fibers. And/or under stress/anxiety situation - Problem starts w/ feeling a connection between mind and abdomen sensing intestines stop moving (dead zone) - Within hours, start to have extreme cramp in the small intestines, abdominal hardens w/ severe pains that crimples me and I must lie down - My body and mind learned over time to shut down and feel sedated, however pain intensifies - Soon after, pain generates loose saliva to urge me to vomit. Vomiting 4 to 5 times, each time with less materials but diaphragm contracts violently causing the abdominal to response. Later vomits have bile and bitter tastes - Full body sweat due to severe pain and the pain continues and intensifies if the mind focuses on the pain or the stressful situation that initiated the onset - No bowel movement. Onset of recovery is when gas bubbles boiling inside. Burb and pass gas are good sign. It takes 2 to 5 days to get over the problem. Usually no food or liquid for first 24 to 48 hours. Small portions and easy to digest food for 5 to 10 days. The Potential causes - Had appendectomy years ago that went wrong, adhesion at the surgical site may be a cause of blockage of GI movement, high fiber food also irritates the intestine - Stress and anxiety can lead to onset of another episode – very difficult to control - I have gone through extreme investigations and no doctors or professors could tell me for sure what the problem is and how to control it. The closest I found was IBS, however symptoms from Chronic Intestinal Psuedo-obstruction also apply to me. - Found a doctor to prescribe Dicyclomine, somewhat effective when I take it before the onset. However once the problem starts, nothing really works. Just have to grind through the whole cycle as described above. - This is extremely debilitating. Anyone has the same problem? Any suggestions? My flare-ups are food related, occurring about once a year, or less. I watch what I eat, but today, I'm on my 2nd 20mg tablet. The ones I have left are six years old, long expired, and so far, not helping too much. I'll see the doc tomorrow for a new prescription. I've had this prob 50 years, and this med has helped most of all.
