This is the best antibiotic out there for me. It clears my ear congestion up and sinus problems from my allergies better than anything else. I wish more doctors would prescribe this instead of pushing zpack. My internist wants to always prescribe regular amoxicillan and it just doesn't work for me.

First off, I wish I had read the reviews prior to taking this drug. My Dr put me on this because I have nasal polyps and a deviated septum which he thinks is causing me to have a chronic sinus infection. Because of the severity of my sinusitis he wanted me on this for 2 weeks to start, up to 4 total. I am on day 5 of this and the first couple of days were OK. Skip ahead and I am now spending m...

I'm prone to Sinus Itus and have used it twice in the past 3 years. 2 a day for 10 days. The only very prominent side effect I get is tiredness and extremely vivid dreams. I normally don't remember anything when I wake up and on this drug the thoughts linger for days. It's really bizarre but kinda fun. My urine also turns electric yellow. By day three I always feel way better and by day 7 I feel normal and healthy again.

Took this drug at 9:00am following my Dr's Appt along with some peanut butter crackers and a non-carbonated drink as directly by the pharmacist. Then I headed off to the office. About 11:00am I started feeling nauseated but thought it would pass. By 11:30 I got up to head to the restroom because I was really feeling bad but before I could get to my door I had to grab the waste basket and began to vomit. I felt better followng that but about 5 minutes later I had another round of vomiting, sweating and severe itching. Long story short; by 1:00pm I was being taken by ambulance to the hospital where I continued to vomit in 5 to 10 minute intervals until they could get me in a room and medicated. Had to have an IV to replace fluids lost and missed the next 2 days of work trying to recover. My daughter had a similar experience with the same drug while driving from New Orleans to Baton Rouge. She starting vomiting while she was driving and had to pull over and call 911 to get help. MISERABLE, MISERABLE Drug. Went back to the Z-Pak. Always works and does it in only 5 days instead of the usual 10 day course with other antibiotics.Read More Read Less

I have tubes in both ears but one became infectd and started to drain bloody fluid. (the tube still in place, per ENT who examined me). This is my 6th day on this drug and my ear is still drainig, though not as much. I feel exhausted as if each limb weighs 29 pounds..I have a headache relieved only with ES excedrin. Heart races intermittently. Just feel as if I have the flu. Will return to the ENT who prescribed this tomorrow. My husband reminded me the same thing happened when I took this drug a year ago when my tubes were placed originally. It seems to be the drug rather than the infection (the drainage wasn't cultured because the almighty insurance wouldn't permit that. All the docs can do are hope it's the right drug for the right infection!!Read More Read Less

Here are my symptoms on day 6 of a 10 day course (per my dentist, I am stopping now): Extreme lethargy, short but very emotional crying spells, depression, general malaise, “fogginess” of mind, confusion, slightly blurred vision, temporarily feeling feverish, waves of complete exhaustion, heaviness of limbs, slight constipation and diarrhea. I am on day 6 of a 10 day course. I have taken this medication before with no problems. I had been blaming my symptoms on a lengthy (4 hour) dental visit 6 days ago, then on the painkillers (which I stopped taking 2 days ago), but I couldn’t find any similar stories online to support my theory. It didn’t occur to me until today that it could be my antibiotic. This morning, I felt as if I actually nodded off twice while sitting in a chair, drinking my coffee. I have never felt that way before. I won’t go so far as to say I have felt suicidal on this medication, but there were a few moments of such despair in the first 2 or 3 days... That is NOT how I am. The worst has been the confusion and the lethargy. That is not getting better, and may be getting worse. If I am right, and the antibiotic is making me feel this way, I will NEVER take this medication again.Read More Read Less

This antibotic totally killed all the good bacteria in my GI track. I am going on a full week of the most misery I have ever been in. i can't go to work because I can't be far from a bathroom. I would advise thinking twice before taking this drug.

I've been prescribed Augmentin 500 by my doc to treat a flu. I'm 59 years old with atrial fibrillation history. My doc carried out a physical examination of my throat, heartbeat and rythm (was fine), and lungs (found to be ok too). Soon after taking the first Augmentin 500 tablet, I felt very tired and went to bed. On waking up I discovered that I was experiencing an AF. I was admitted to hospital and cardioverted. I normally take the following medication: Amiodarone Hydrocloride, Thyroxine and Warfarin. Could you please explain why the above happened?Read More Read Less

Won't use it again. It finally cleared up the sinus infection but... The diarrhea started after day two. Not just once in awhile but every hour or two. Finished the 10 day scrip 5 days ago. Have eaten a lot of yogurt & still have the diarrhea.

I was prescribed the generic form of Augmentin for strep throat. It cleared the strep up quickly, but after the course of treatment, I quickly developed a yeast infection and bladder infection so bad that I ended up in the ER on the weekend. I don't know if I would take this again, knowing what I am dealing with now. I even took a good probiotic from a naturopath dr. with the Augmentin.

I have taken this medication already but in the 625 mg format. I began taking this lastest prescription in the 1 gram dosage about 6 days prior to today. On the 3rd day I began having a runny nose and a slight sore-throat. The 4th day I got an internal fever and chills which lasted 2 days. The 5th day my throat was no longer sore but began itching. I continued and completed the full course of the medication taking all 14 tablets. Two days after completing the course. All of the above symptoms vanished. If I am ever prescribed this medication again I will mostly likely request the 625 mg dosage.Read More Read Less

I have been on Amoxicillin before, which is one of the 2 main drugs in this medicine. I expected it to work the same way, but it was worse. A couple hours after taking the 1st dose, I had diarrhea & severe vomiting. I took my 2nd dose about an hour ago and it has only given me minor stomach aches so far. Hopefully it'll cure whatever I have.
