I first started taking Buprenex (0.3 mg q.i.d. IM) about 16 years ago. I had tried all the usual classes of antidepressants and a number of not-so-usual ones, and my psychiatrist referred me for a consultation to a colleague who had experience using buprenorphine for refractory depression, who recommended it. At first there were side effects including nausea, jitteriness (unlike other opioids I had been prescribed before, buprenorphine has never been at all sedating), dry mouth, constipation, itching, and feeling hotter than I would have expected based on the surrounding temperature. I've been taking it for ~16 years and it still works at the same dose (the possibility of tolerance was something I was concerned about when I first started taking it), and the side effects have gotten manageable. The two main difficulty I've experienced is that a few years ago I started having trouble getting it — I tried several retail pharmacies and they all said that their wholesalers don't carry buprenorphine injectable anymore, so I've been getting it from a compounding pharmacy, which is inconvenient (and not covered by my health plan). I think this is due to drug shortages, which I gather have been a major problem over the last 5-10 years or so.Read More Read Less

This drug is no joke, my fiancee' took one for a sprain and I only gave her a half an 8mg dose and she got super sick and was throwing up and felt sick for 2 days. works great for withdrawal, no symptoms to speak of. One side effect was headaches but tylenol took care of that.

My cat was given this med for pain..vet said its...'Like Asprin",in her back; arthritis at 15 yrs old. Bad medicine. I took her to another vet and they said it is like giving a human morphine, and will break down their liver function. Don't give this to your animal!

my cat Renn was given this. I did not like the way it made him feel. He was given this when I took him to the vet because of problems urinating. The reaction I witnessed out of him was lethargic and he couldent seem to hold his head up. I do not like what it did to him. but the next day he was ok. dosage: .3mg/ml

This drug was given to my dog for pain. As I write this she is sitting in the vet hospital being monitored. We were sent home right away after the injection & wasn't told of the side effects. We rushed her back in because of her not being able to move & her legs were buckling. She was panting very hard. She left slobbery, slimy puddles on the floor.

A M.D. in Richmond gave me this drug after long term opiate use. 32 shots over 10 days, every 4 hours for 2 days, then 2 days every 6 hours, 2 days every 8 hours, 2 days every 10, 2 days every 12 hours, and finally 2 days of 1 shot per day! If you have been on long term opiates and want to get off them this is the way to go! No withdrawll symptoms at all!! I could eat, work and sleep!!Great for this purpose!

I have been using as a replacement for Opiates. Also used as a detox med and had little to no withdrawls. I currently inject 2 vials 4-5 times a day for pain. Better than the opiate feelings.

This was prescribed for my cat for pain associated with kidney stones. She seems to feel much better, but it seems like such an intense drug, also after reading the warnings.....seems like the drug could interfere with kidney function, so I'm calling the vet back. I don't like the sound of this drug, even though it seems to be working.

Was used on my cat, not a human. Relieved some of his pain during a bout with an infection.
