I have a history of diverticulosis. Twice now when food got trapped in the intestine pockets, I have been prescribed Lactulose. When I asked how this worked so quickly to eliminate my pain, the doctor explained this medication acts as a magnet to enter the pockets and then eliminates the rotting food particles trapped in there. It creates moisture and sends it on its way thru the intestines where...
MY DOCTOR HAS PRESCRIBED THIS FOR APPROXIMATELY 8 YEARS! I HAD TO INCREASE AND INCREASE THE DOSAGE FOR IT TO WORK, SO NOW I HAVE TO TAKE THE STRONGER LINZESS WITH IT. IT DOES GIVE ONE GAS. I ALWAYS THOUGHT CONTINUED USE OF A LAXATIVE WAS BAD FOR US? WHY DOES MY DR. KEEP ME ON IT FOR SO LONG? BECAUSE I'D NEVER GO WITHOUT IT (I HAVE A TWISTED COLON) AND NOW I THINK I HAVE A BLOCKAGE…….BELLY...

I took just one tablespoon and after a few hours I suffered with very bad stomach cramps. It did help me as far as not being constipated anymore but the pain and discomfort wasn't worth it. I think from now on I will just double my dose of Metamucil which seems to work pretty good. But his Lactulose, they can keep it!!!!

I took lactulose for moderate constipation, and as I must admit it took care of that! But, it took me to the other side of b/ms with 5 or more painful trips to my then doctor. When I next saw him he laughed and said "well you said you were constipated!" This drug is for more than what is called minor constipation I have found, and should be fine for those who have a more serious trouble than just a minor type.

I hadn't had a bowel movement for two weeks and the doctor prescribed 4tbs of this a day. I took it for three days and didn't have a bowel movement. I ended up in the ER and was given magnesium citrate.

I was born with IBS, whole family has it, in the last 15 yrs I've had two Ischemic Colitis attacks plus Diverticulities on top of this. I take 2tbs each morning and I haven't had any problems except for the gas, but hey, thats better than the pain of very little bowel movements for days. I've also added crushed flax seed to my oatmeal each morning and I take lactulose at the same time each morning, plus I also have added Acidophilus Probiotic each morning also. My gut has never felt this good.
