Had infusion IV at VA last week and have had NO side effects or reactions during these very few days. I am Diabetic and Bone Scan and Test showed Osteoporosis in 1998 and again this year, I will update in about a month as to any side effects that I might encounter, if any.

My second dose of Zometa caused a severe allergic reaction of hives at the injection site and other body parts. I have bone and joint pain, especially in my hip.My right side is very weak. This drug has been my worst nightmare. Even after 6 months, the pain persist. I've contacted FDA concerning this drug.

After both ankles sustained compound fractures simultaneously 5 years ago, I began treatment for osteoporosis at age 71. I did 1 year of bi-monthly Prolia injections; 1 year of Evenity monthly injections, all with no immediate or long-term side effects. Now at age 75, my Dr. recommended the once a year Reclast. My bone density is not due until November '22. I have been walking well, drove myself to the infusion center and drove myself home with no problems. But less than 12 hours later, I awoke with severe hip, thigh, buttocks, leg and ankle pain, ALL ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY BODY! I could barely roll over to get out of bed! It was hard to distinguish joint pain from muscle pain from bone pain! This is finishing up day 5 post-infusion and I have to use a walker to get around my home, and have to sit to shower as I can't stand alone as the pain is so intense. Luckily my home is already handicapped accessible in bathrooms, doorways, and halls, so I can maneuver a wheel chair if it, God forbid, becomes necessary. There are no words to "cleanly" express how angry, disappointed and frustrated I am...I trusted a good doctor with my bone health, and I am now certain that I will be worse off than before this injection....NEVER AGAIN!Read More Read Less

I don't have osteo yet but I have muscular dystrophy so my doc wanted to be proactive. I was scared to have the infusion but did my research and decided pros outweighed the odds. I had no initial side effects post infusion - I was very happy. But a month or two later, I've got horrible joint pain and discomfort making it harder to walk and fall asleep. There is a constant ache in my lower back and legs. I also feel weaker. I can't prove its attributable to Reclast, but it is the most likely culprit. The aches in my joints are making me miserable. I am a Breast cancer survivor, finished chemo 12/1/22 and had bilateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction in February…. Now on immunotherapy for 6 months. As part of my last phase of treatment… Was given My 1st dose of Zolendronic acid infusion on 15/6/22… within 8hrs of having it, I developed widespread bone, joints and muscle pains beyond a pain I have ever experienced before with high temperatures which would not settle for days despite iv antibiotics and paracetamol. I was in hospital for 5days on slow release morphine and oromorph for breakthrough pain and by day 5 I needed strong anti inflammatory meds as most of my joints where swollen including finger and toe ones. I could not walk… reduced to using a Zimmer frame to get myself to the toilet…& sitting on the toilet or any seat was torture I am 2 weeks in today, the pains are much less and I have reduced my pain meds to just paracetamol… but the exhaustion i feel is so depressing especially that it took a lot to get myself back up fit from chemo and surgery for breast cancer. Before this infusion I was walking 8000 steps 3 times a week, doing house chaos, even restarted driving short distances and for once in 11months I felt like I was getting my life and confidence back…. It’s now very frustrating to go 5 steps backwards only to restart rebuilding again! Seeing my oncologist next Monday to discuss way forward re: this treatment… I am not sure I want it anymore… I ve been told they can swap it to another.. I am still not sure I will take it regardless! It’s vile ! Read More Read Less

PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM ZOLENDRONIC ACID INFUSION: The medication is lethal! I am writing this review on a hospital bed, with diagnosis of Pancreatic Ca! My lab works were all normal few days prior to ZOL infussion including liver function tests, so I was cleared to receive ZOL infusion. On 18th May 2022, I received ZOL infusion in the morning, this was my first dose and the first time. 16 hours later, I began to pee dark yellow urine, had high fever through the night, and suffered increase level of pain. 2 days after the infussion I started noticing yellowness on my skin and eyes. I thought it was just one adverse reaction, and was still able to carry out my normal day-today tasks. One week later I continued to pee yellow, and my poop had changed to chalky color. I knew something terrible is going on. I rushed to an ER, where they did blood tests and abdominal scan and they told me there was pancreatic sessions that has metastated to the liver! the Radiologist stated "you need to act really fast ..." I have been through MRI, CT Scan, and a failed ERCP! because there's big blockage of the common bile ducts! I am still at the hospital, not sure if I'll ever survive long enough to write this BOLDLY! You have this review, now you know there are risks they are not telling people about! I read other reviews in which people are saying ZOL causes cancer ... but no one has come openly to say if or not they got cancer after the treatment. BUT NOW YOU KNOW! My main reason for taking time to write this review is to alert everyone of the lethality and danger of this medication! ZOL is killing, and I hope the manufacturers would read this review and put an end to this dangerous drug - ZOLENDRONIC ACID INFUSSIONRead More Read Less

It's early stages for me, but I had a back reaction with flu like symptoms, sickness and aching mainly in the torso area, I'm still suffering with the aches a week later, I had this injection for Bone marrow edema, I really hope this doesn't continue as the pain can be quite severe.

In a couple of weeks I'm going in for my third infusion in three years (I get mine at my local VA hospital). I've had no side effects from the infusions. So far, it has improved my bone density for which I'm extremely grateful because my mother's hip spontaneously broke due to her severe osteoporosis. As for me, I'm all in!

I had the infusion october 2018 my legs became heavy and painful during the infusion symptoms got worse soon after leaving hospital i had to force my hips and knees to bend just to sit on the toilet.I contacted my GP he contacted rheumatology and it took 7 weeks for rheumatology to get back to my GP saying it could be fibromyalga and to start me on prednisolone 15mg. 14 months later my whole body is still in pain and I now have to take Methyotrexate and prednisolone as the rheumatologist has now said it could be vasculitis. The zoldronic acid infusion has ruined my life I was fit and active now I cant work have had to give up a good full time career. Methyotrexate is a chemotherapy drug and I don't have cancer at least I hope not but am concerned I could now have bone cancer.I would never advise anyone to have zoldronic acid. I think much more research needs to be done on this highly toxic drug. Read More Read Less

Worse drug I've ever taken.4 months on and still suffering.Caused tinitus and bone problems in ears.Tried telling me it was caused by smoking.Rubbish, happened immediately after infusion, severe earache then tinitus.Flare up of arthritis immediately after which I'm still suffering. Still trying to get answers. Was told benefits outweigh risks, what a joke.Been off work since November.Wish to God I'd never had it.Destroyed me

July 6, 2018 was my 5th yearly infusion. The next night I had terrible pains shooting through my entire body, the calves of my legs hurt so much I was in tears, my thighs and groin area hurt so much that I was scared and I had no idea what had happened or why, my arthritis flared up, I experienced nasal congestion, I was extremely tired, after about two weeks my teeth hurt for two days, and I still have some shooting pains on occasions. I still have arthritis that is much more painful than it was before. Because I was awake all night I read the medication information, and realized this horrible pain all night came from the Zoledronic Acid. Calling the pharmacist, as recommended on the page of side effects, was not helpful, because he just casually interrupted and said I had side effects so I should take Tylenol. And the doctor basically said that they can't take the infusion out of the body but my side effects will eventually subside. I wish I could back- track from this nightmare, and just do exercises, eat well, and take my chances. I had been recovering from other medical issues, but I had managed to walk a good distance on a daily basis; now, after this infusion I can not walk as well, I tire easily, my knees are a pain, and I am angry that this treatment is presented as having just a few side effects. If I had been told of the possible side effects, I would never have used this drug. It is now over 6 weeks since I had the infusion and I still feels some of the effects especially in my joints. The second and third day I could barely get out of bed, nausea, headache, serious flu symptoms. Then a week after my leg was so swollen I could not bend it. The endocrinologist on call said to go to emergency where they drained my knee. Then a week after, my other knee started acting up. It took over two weeks to get rid of most of the inflammation and still have problem. My specialist did not know what to do about any of the side effects. When I asked him why he did not tell me of the serious side effects he did not know about those I had. I am a very active person who does squash, biking, tennis, etc. Have not been able to do any of those sports since then. I have lost confidence in specialists. It seems they are distributors for drug companies. They don't look at any other type of remedies.Read More Read Less

I had 2 yearly infusions, am seriously considering not having the 3rd. No reduction in micro-fractures. Told initially it would take 3months to be active in preventing them. During year 2 they gave similar excuses for continued micro-fracturing. I don't believe this works, in fact my teeth are now crumbling to bits rapidly since beginning treatment. The old diet and exercise cure is really the only valid option. That and spiritually healing your blocks and fears. How can a medicine be valid if it crumbles one set of bones to build up another. Nonsensical and I believe extremely toxic. Cure yourselves instead and don't trust big pharma unless you have no alternative!Read More Read Less

I have started this monthly treatment in August 2016. After each I end up with eye ach above left eye only. I now have to take aspirins and Benadryl for 6 days to clear it out. Everything that I have read states this is a 'rare' condition. Treatment is suppose to be for 3 years. Hope this clears up.

This is a followup on my previous 2 entries after being given the IV fusion of Zoledronic back in Nov of 2015. I still am being treated for the rash and itching that occurred approx 2 weeks after the IV at the VA Hospital. I've seen 4 Dermatologists at the VA Hosp and have been prescribed numerous meds and to take cool showers and use ice when itching is severe. The last Dr I saw was about 2 weeks ago and he prescribed Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream USP,0.1% and 2 days after I am finally seeing results. The itching is gone and the redness where the bumps had broken due to scratching is relieved and they form a scab and the scabs are dropping off, It is such a relief! I suppose that they may have given me the other drugs previously then worked up to this drug at this time perhaps. Though it is NOT fully cleared up I definitely feel and see an improvement on my back; however, my scalp and neck have yet to show the same response; i.e., it seems to be taking longer. I will keep you updated. WOW! It has been over 8 months since I had that IV and putting up with this. I don't go shirtless because of what it has looked like on my back. Read More Read Less

On 1/6/2016 I got the Zoledronic Acid Infusion for bone loss. On the day I got it all was well. When I woke up around 3;00 a.m. the side effects were Horrible. It felt like my bone, muscles and organs were on fire or being electrocuted. But the next day was much better. If this doesn't help my bone lost I will never do this again!

I experience some lower back/side pain with this treatment. The pain could be from the cancel of the bone/spine. The pain always happen when I sit for a period of time and get up to walk. I experience tingling and numbness in my toes, not sure if this is related to my diabetes.

I had my first infusion 2 weeks ago. The reaction I had within 12 hours of the procedure was horrible. My entire spine felt like it was going to break. After 2 weeks, I still have severe headaches every day, chills, and a very stiff neck. The dr. says this is unusual and I attribute the excess pain to my spinal stenosis condition. I will not take the drug again, even if it helps my osteo.
