I love Yasmin!! I didn't gain any weight, my face is super clear, it's easy to use and i didn't get any side effects like breast tenderness, etc. I HIGHLY recommend it.

I would advise any young woman NOT to take this pill. I almost died taking it with the uncommon side effects. I was diagnosed with pulmonary embolisms, pneumonia and pulmonary hypertension within 2 months of taking this pill. when i was prescribed Yasmin, no steps were taken to ensure I would stop smoking, loose weight etc, it was a 5 minute appointment with my gp and I was sent on my way. I wish I had seen these reviews before starting the generic version, Zamine. I was originally taking Loestrin for 7-8 years to help with menstrual cramps, but my doctor informed me it was being discontinued so she would need to switch me to something else. For the first few months of taking Zamine, i felt fine with my everyday routine. shortly after that i began experiencing ransom heart palpitations. I am someone who has been very stressed at points in my life but NEVER experienced any sort of anxiety or panic attacks etc. At first i thought i had too much on my plate at the time so took steps to adjust my life. The symptoms only continued but got worse. i I started to randomly experience chest pains and becoming very disoriented. To the point i thought any day I was going to have a stroke or heartache based on my symptoms. I did go to emerg once and tested me for a PE, but was clear and the doctor didnt know what else could be causing my heart rate to increase so much to the point it was pounding out of my chest. More months go by and im still experiencing my symptoms. i went to my family doctor twice in tears telling her something isnt right and she only said it was "anxiety". She referred me to a cardiologist to make me feel better….pathetic. It wasn’t until I stopped my BC for a couple months because I was not taking it consistently, then when I restarted it, it only took 2 days back into for my heart palpitations to begin again and that was enough for me to stop it all together. DO NOT TAKE THIS PILL. I became suicidal, had chest pain, muscle spasms, panic attacks that bad they made me vomit everytime I was out in public or even with friends, anxiety, acne, depression, palpitations, breathlessness that bad that I couldn’t sleep lying down because I physically couldn’t breathe. It ruined my life for a year and a half until I read other reviews and came off it straight away. From the minute I stopped taking it the panic attacks and physical and mental issues went away! Please AVOID it could save your life!Read More Read Less

I was prescribed Yasmin years ago, when I was in my late teens/early 20s and still used hormonal birth control, and I was a user for approximately four/five years (~2003-2007/08). I'm sharing my experience with it now because I'd considered maybe getting back on it, but I'm not sure now. Anyway, I had zero complications with Yasmin and would've continued to use it if my insurance kept covering it. My weight balanced out beautifully (I'm 5'2'' and weighed about 118-120 lbs at that time, without trying to maintain it), and my skin cleared almost immediately. I never had severe acne (one or two occasional cystic eruptions around my cycle), but Yasmin made my skin absolutely flawless. I never became pregnant, but it is worth mentioning that I was also using condoms and/or withdrawal while I was on Yasmin. When I stopped and switched to the generic version of Yasmin, I had many of the negative side effects that other women have experienced on Yasmin: severe headaches, acne, dry/brittle hair .. I feared I'd have a stroke, so I stopped BC altogether and have been using natural cycle tracking successfully for years now (in addition to celibacy between relationships). It is worth mentioning that my skin was pretty bad for about four years after I stopped BC altogether, and I get the sense that my weight/hormones have been altered in a negative way by getting on and off different pills, as evidenced by my weight fluctuations.Read More Read Less

My experience with Yasmin has been positive. The core reasons I began it was I was experiencing some really bad depression as well as facial hair and weight gain. I do suffer a reoccurring cyst on my left ovary which throws My hormones off. My doctor recommended Yasmin to hopefully counteract, and it has worked so far. I feel like an improved person. I haven't seen changes in weight or facial hair yet, but my mood is enhanced and my appetite has shrunk. The only downside I have is that I'm tired more. I've never been a nap person but now I am. The diuretic quality of this pill made me very ill. I took it for seven years and believe that over that time it made me lose weight in a dangerous way. This pill gave me acne, hair loss, daily chest pain, anxiety, dizziness, nausea, dry mouth, seizures, POTS, facial tics/other muscle spasms and blackouts/fainting. Many of these are symptoms of having water soluble mineral and vitamin deficiencies. I also developed a large, non-cancerous tumour which was attached to both my ovaries. I was very lucky not to lose all my reproductive organs but my surgeon removed the tumour with skill. My family doctor was completely clueless and never once suggested that this pill was the cause of *any* of my symptoms. She prescribed anti-anxiety meds and anti-depressants which made me sicker. Over time I have realised that Yasmin caused symptoms consonant with starvation in me. It should not be on the market and is a very very dangerous medicine, when taken long-term, particularly for people who are slender or are not overweight to begin with. I am not anti-pill, but please take a pill that does not cause weight loss. Also be careful with this pill if you drink black or green tea or coffee (also diuretics). Read More Read Less

Be aware! I had a stroke while on this pill at the age of 17! No history of stroke before or in the family. It happened a year after starting the pill. I started having headaches about 9 months before I had my stroke. As soon as I came off the pill, my headaches went!

I have experienced mood swings during my first pack, my menstruation started during active pills, on day 18. Now I’m on the second pack and spotting for couple of days. I’m also feeling nauseous in the morning. I do not recommend this pill.

I was recently diagnosed with endometriosis from a gynaecologist and he recommended going on the pill would be my best option to help with the pain, acne and bloating (all caused from endo). i was super keen to try Yaz as a few of my friends and doctors have said that it is one of the "best" pills with the least side effects. although i suffer panic and anxiety disorder ever since i could remember, but i fondly remember my anxiety was going really well, barely having panic attacks, feeling anxious, etc. and as soon as i started taking this pill - the anxiety instantly came on the next day, i think it was one of the worst things ive experienced and i am still to this day (a month later) trying to get back on track. i could only take it for a week it was so unbareable. i'm sure it would be fine if you didn't suffer with anxiety, but i would stay clear of this if you do. will be trying other pills. I have had my share of both the combined pill contraceptive and the implant in my arm. The pill I had usually taken was Qlaira, and although I had light spotting, I believe this pill was well suited for me. However, there was a shortage in my area and I had to be re-prescribed another and was put on Yasmin. I have now taken the pill for six months and can honestly say I have never felt as low in my life as I currently do. I failed to realize why I was feeling the way I was and put it down to college. However, I was struggling to get out of bed and find the motivation to go about my daily life. I found myself crying and more anxious about so many more situations. I have gained a fair amount of weight without realizing it was due to the pill and also feel extremely fatigued. My breasts are already large and are sensitive to hormones, with this pill projecting them to a size I hadn't experienced on Qlaira. All in all, I really don't recommend this pill to anyone.Read More Read Less

This pill worked as it was supposed to while I was on it, I had no negative side effects while taking it, but the problem came when I went off the pill - I started losing a significant amount of hair days after going off the pill and it has still not returned to normal about 6 months after. I just wanted to warn girls about this, I would have never started taking this pill knowing this was going to happen.

Used it for 7 years n very happy with it. Problems only appeared after stopping the pill - PCOS & depression. Almost killed myself for no reason but overwhelming emotions, and having difficulty to get pregnant. I'm shocked nobody warned me of this side effect before, and so many women actually went through the same depression issue after the pill. I just want everyone to be aware of this potential side effect, and maybe if you have to use it, don't use it continuously for long period of time.

Sent me into major depression. The pill should not be the first option for women when dealing PCOS/ acne/ period problems etc. There are so many other medicines or natural remedies to assist with everything, it’s a shame the health system just throws the pill at women who are struggling with any related issue and calls it a day.

So, I started yasmin about two years ago after coming off of the implant which made me gain a lot of weight (which was the reason I came off of it). About 3 months ago I decided that I wanted a break from birt control, and stopped taking the pill. After about a month my acne was AWFUL. My entire skin texture changed and I was honestly shocked. I had taken Acutane in the past for my acne, but have not had any problems since. Keep in mind, I have been on birth control since stopping Acutane, so I really did not know what my skin was like i guess. But anyway, my skin was AWFUL. I was embarassed and depressed about it. I hid under my mask whenever i left my house and did not know wgat to do. I tried every single acne medication and topical (including Tretinoin) and nothing worked. After about a month, I decided that I would go back on. I read a ton of reviews about how it takes about 3 months to work, and for a while there I had lost hope. HOWEVER, I am not on month 4 and my skin has completely cleared up. I dont need to wear make up anymore or hide under my mask, etc. On top of it helping my acne, my periods are regular and literally last 3 days. I have no major side effecgts, besides some nausea during the first month restarting Yasmin. Ladies, if you have problem skin and are looking for a solution from birth control, this is it. I lost hope for a while there, not knowing that I had already been on the best pill fo acne beforehand. Give it a try!! It may work for you :) Read More Read Less
