I would advise any young woman NOT to take this pill. I almost died taking it with the uncommon side effects. I was diagnosed with pulmonary embolisms, pneumonia and pulmonary hypertension within 2 months of taking this pill. when i was prescribed Yasmin, no steps were taken to ensure I would stop smoking, loose weight etc, it was a 5 minute appointment with my gp and I was sent on my way. I was on Yasmin28 for abt 5yrs from desogen,dr switched me for no reason except he had free samples for people to try at my yearly exam.It was fine, I gained abt 5lbs that never went away despite working out and running 5times a week. Only realized it had killed my sex drive when I got off to try and get pregnant, which I did. After I had my son I got back on yasmin out of habit, and was on it for 2more yrs with monthly migraines..I've always been a sufferer, but these were prescise with my period which then lasted the full length of the placebo pills, the whole 7days. I got off all BCP I was fine for a year lost the 5lbs sex drive way up, then the clotty periods with extreme labor like pains started. I was put on Loestrin 24 FE march2010, by June gained 10lbs was up a cup size and my period was only spotting. But I had weird discharge/odor on/off througout the month and was constantly up at night to pee. Not to mention three yeast infections one of which spread to my urethra, not fun. Now they are switching me to ortho cyclen (gen)sprintec. wish me luck.Read More Read Less

I began taking this medicine when I was a high school senior because my testosterone level was too high, because I had irregular and painful periods, and because I was having problems with mild acne. within a few weeks of beginning it I developed symptoms of depression and many physical problems. I had a severe throat infections, flu, and a bladder infection within a four week period. I became so tired that I could not get up and go to school. I cried a lot and was convinced that my friens no longer lliked me. After my mom figured out that all of this started after I began taking Yaz, she told me to stop taking it. I did and my depression and physical illnesses quickly improved. But since that time, I have mood swings and days of mild depression. My immune system is no longer functioning like ity did prior to taking this medication, and I get throat infections, flu, and other illnesses several times a year. I have not ever gained back the energy level I had prior to taking Yazmin.Read More Read Less

My health issues are making some sense now. The mood swings, anxiety, weight gain, and now possibly a gallbladder problem. I took Yasmin for years and just recently stopped. I've notice some changes. Too bad Im seeing the doctor for symptoms related to my gallbladder this week.

I've been on Yasmin for 5 1/2 years & was perfectly happy with it. I took it for birth control & the positive effects were a bonus - like clearing my huge big breakouts once a month, lightened my period, cut my period to 3-4 days. I did get the bloating, weight gain & minor headaches over the last years & was able to manage through them with Advil or exercise. However, over the last 2 months, I started noticing that I was getting these headaches that won't go away. It started 2 months ago, thinking it's just the usual headache migraine I got before my period but it lasted for almost a month! Just a dull, nagging, aching headache at the top of my head. Took everything (Advil, Tylenol, Aspirin) & it would kind of go away but recur again. Also, I went to see my primary care doctor to ask why I got these lingering headaches, although not painful, but dull & achy. They saw my blood pressure was elevated & my doctor didn't know if this was caused by my headache. Then I started reading these emails about negative side effects of Yasmin. At first I ignored them but then when I read them, I found out that I had the same symptoms! I got the anxiety attacks, terrible heart palpitations, high blood pressure, never ending dull headache, & also dryness in my vaginal walls that sex felt painful & all these I never experienced before. I compared my experiences to all the reviews I read & found that most women who were on Yasmin for a long time like myself had the same results. My gynecologist told me to stop using it & will probably switch me to a lower brand. If you notice any of these symptoms, please stop taking Yasmin.Read More Read Less

I lost 8 pounds while taking yasmin, my skin cleared up some, and my moods really settled down. For years I had pretty severe PMS but on yasmin I found myself feeling much calmer all month. My only negative was that after a few months on it I began spotting between periods which was irritating and it did noticably reduce my sex drive.

I was put on this pill at age 15 to regulate menstruation. I saw all the warnings over the years about its dangerous side effects, but figured they didn't apply to me. But, throughout the next 5 years, I developed migraines that slowly but surely increased in intensity and frequency. I never connected them to the Yasmin. I saw neurologists, had brain MRIs, tweaked my diet--no relief! Then, last fall, the migraines, nausea and light sensitivity got so bad, I couldn't attend classes and had to take a medical withdrawal from school. It felt as if the backs of my eyes were going to explode! Finally it dawned on me to Google a connection between light sensitivity and Yasmin--I got a FLOOD of responses!! Yasmin was the cause of YEARS and YEARS of illness for me and I didn't realize the cause. I took my last pill in November. In the end of January I was able to return for the next semester of school. NO more migraines, NO more eye problems and NO more nausea!!! My experience has proven to my gyn that NO ONE should be taking this medication!! There are much safer alternatives out there! DO NOT TAKE THIS PILL!!Read More Read Less

Like so many others that have reviewed Yasmin, I experienced INSANE mood swings, anxiety attacks, paranoia, insomnia, and crying fits. I was so imbalanced within the first cycle of pills that I nearly ended a relationship with a great guy, considered harming myself (which I have NEVER done before), and I simply couldn't function. After a week off of it, I feel 100% better. I now have to look for another medicine to address my PCOS, but at least I can think clearly, eat, sleep, and am not a danger to myself. All drugs certainly have different effects on different people, and I wouldn't assume that everyone would have the same experience that I did. But if you are on hormones and are experiencing the things I have mentioned, please consider the possibility that the hormones are causing it, and talk to your doctor about going off of it for a few weeks to see if your symptoms improve. I started taking Yasmin (the generic actually) about a year ago and since I've noticed an increase in migraine headaches. I get a severe migraine 2 days into my 4th week of pills and then again the day after beginning a new pack. It's happened like clockwork for the past 4 months, so I finally asked my doctor to switch me. I've also noticed an increase in facial hair, but I'm not as emotional as I was on Ortho Tri-Cyclen. Hopefully the next one doesn't have the side effects.

i have been taking yasmin because i have polycystic ovarian syndrome. i have not had a period in 14 months, i started right on schedule with the pills. but the symptons i experianced were, i was confused, scary thoughts, migranes, sore jaw, had a contracting feeling in my uterus area, dizziness, i immediately discussed it with my mother and stopped taking the pill three days before the 2nd month was finished, i made my appointment with the doctor. hopefully i could find something that helps my situation that is safe.Read More Read Less

PCOS - acne, excess facial hair but mostly a lot of pain from the cysts. Started 6 months ago. Didn't experience any side effects at first other than extreme fatigue - 3 months in started to get headaches during the week off the pill. 2 months ago the nausea started to get worse and I've thrown up twice so far. I feel medically castrated, no drive whatsoever and I've gain at least 10 pounds in the 6 months. Energy was completely shot for the first 3 months - I couldn't do much but lay on the couch but it has slowly come back to about 75%. Only upsides: Acne is much better and pain is virtually gone from the cysts. Not sure what to do. Read More Read Less

I've been taking Yasmin for about 7 months now to improved the moderate acne I had. For the first couple of months, I had the worst mood swings, mostly acting like a complete b****! But my mood improved and my skin looked the best it had in three years! However, I gained about 15 pounds from 140 lbs to 155 lbs and am having the hardest time losing it. You have to work sooo much harder to get some off. So now I'm debating between better skin or a more fit body. Or any suggestions on an alternative BC? Read More Read Less

I was on Ocella, the generic for Yasmin. On Ocella, I gained 15 pounds, had a constant migraine, always felt exhausted, always felt hungry but had no appetite, was irritable, prone to burst into tears over anything (extremely uncharacteristic of me), pretty much any negative side effect birth control can cause was caused by Ocella. My doctor switched me to Yasmin and I immediately felt 100% better. I feel like myself again. I honesetly think it's worth the extra money. Although the generic may have the same active ingretients, the inactive ingredients are significantly different enough to ruin your life. Yasmin is the only birth control I have been on that hasn't negatively affected my daily life.Read More Read Less

My PMDD was so bad before I started this pill, I was often suicidal. I suffered extreme mood swings, extreme anxiety, fits of rage and hysterical crying... I rarely got my period and when I did I it was horrible beyond imaging. I was REALLY scared to start on hormones. I finally did out of desperation, and within days I was normal. Completely normal. THIS DRUG LITERALLY SAVED MY LIFE. My periods are regular and mild. I can't speak to the pregnancy prevention aspect of this drug; but I VERY HIGHLY recommend it if you suffer from PMDD!!!!!!! I did switch to the generic pill Ocella after about a year when my ins. wouldn't pay for the name brand anymore. Ocella was admittedly less effective, though it was supposed to be the same. My periods are a bit longer and I experience some cramping (no cramping with Yasmin) with a few headaches thrown in. I have some mild to moderate PMS and wicked food cravings. I am still 100x happier in spite of this. I literally count the hours till I can start my new pack every month. Next month, I am starting Seasonique to try to avoid so many hormonal fluctuations. I'm scared to switch, but I'm gonna go for it.Read More Read Less

i was on Yaz for over 2 years, but i got tired of the breakthrough bleeding, so my doc switched me to Yasmin. I started taking it on sunday at noon and about 4 hours later, a headache started, it did not go away, 3 days into the pack and i started getting mood swings, severe panic attacks, paranoia, chest pains and leg cramps, i stopped taking it IMMEDIATELY! wondering if i should just go back to Yaz and deal with the bleeding unless someone else has another suggestion....

I HAVE BEEN ON THIS DRUG FOR 5 YEARS. I SWITCHED AFTER I HAD MY FIRST CHILD BECAUSE MY BODY WAS REACTING WIERD TO MY OLD BC.AT FIRST IT WORKED. MY PERIODS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN REGULAR. BUT I ALSO EXPERIENCED ALOT OF WEIGHT GAIN. THE DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY HAS ONLY GOTTEN WORSE. MY HUSBAND IS THE ONE WHO FIGURED IT OUT. IN THE LAST YEAR I HAVE HAD MY GALL BLADDER REMOVED, PROBLEMS WITH BREATHING AND MAJOR ANXIETY, ONE OF THE BIGGEST SIDE EFFECTS IS THE LOSS OF MY HAIR. MY HAIR IS 70% THINNER THAN IT WAS A YEAR AGO. TO THE POINT MY HAIR DRESSER WILL NOT EVEN BLOW DRY IT. I AM LOSING IT BY THE HANDFUL. I CANT SLEEP ANYMORE AND I HAVE CONSTANCT STOMACH PAIN. I AM GOING TO THE DOCTOR TODAY. I WANT ANSWERS AND I WANT TO KNOW IF I WILL EVER FEEL NORMAL AGAIN.Read More Read Less
