I would advise any young woman NOT to take this pill. I almost died taking it with the uncommon side effects. I was diagnosed with pulmonary embolisms, pneumonia and pulmonary hypertension within 2 months of taking this pill. when i was prescribed Yasmin, no steps were taken to ensure I would stop smoking, loose weight etc, it was a 5 minute appointment with my gp and I was sent on my way. I HAVE BEEN ON THIS DRUG FOR 5 YEARS. I SWITCHED AFTER I HAD MY FIRST CHILD BECAUSE MY BODY WAS REACTING WIERD TO MY OLD BC.AT FIRST IT WORKED. MY PERIODS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN REGULAR. BUT I ALSO EXPERIENCED ALOT OF WEIGHT GAIN. THE DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY HAS ONLY GOTTEN WORSE. MY HUSBAND IS THE ONE WHO FIGURED IT OUT. IN THE LAST YEAR I HAVE HAD MY GALL BLADDER REMOVED, PROBLEMS WITH BREATHING AND MAJOR ANXIETY, ONE OF THE BIGGEST SIDE EFFECTS IS THE LOSS OF MY HAIR. MY HAIR IS 70% THINNER THAN IT WAS A YEAR AGO. TO THE POINT MY HAIR DRESSER WILL NOT EVEN BLOW DRY IT. I AM LOSING IT BY THE HANDFUL. I CANT SLEEP ANYMORE AND I HAVE CONSTANCT STOMACH PAIN. I AM GOING TO THE DOCTOR TODAY. I WANT ANSWERS AND I WANT TO KNOW IF I WILL EVER FEEL NORMAL AGAIN.Read More Read Less

Gained 10 pounds I couldn't lose. INTENSE mood swings! My family had an intervention with me based on this birth control because of how depressed, crazy, and paranoid I've been because of this pill. Doc said itd stop after a few months but it didn't.

I took Yasmin for several years before I had my son and had no problems with it(I wasn't taking it when I got pregnant). It cleared my skin and I had no weight gain. It also made my periods lighter and less painful. I just started taking it again and I'm a little nauseous, but I'm sure that will pass... They say it's pretty common when you first start taking it. I've been completely satisfied with this pill, but I know a lot of people have had adverse reactions to it. It's just like any other medication. You have to be careful and let your doctor know if you have any problems right away. Read More Read Less

For most people this drug has killed their sex drive but for me it has increased it, kinda nice, i do have spotting about a week before my period that gets on my nerves, i get slight headaches but i got those before so not sure if its the BC, my period is regular and only lasts about 3 to 4 days. For the most part i'm not moody till about 2 days before my period and that usually doesn't last long, i get a bitch moment and then i'm fine.

I have been very pleased with this product. Other BC pills have made me feel crazy like all I want to do is cry all day. Only real side effect from Yasmin is the mood swing a couple days b4 my period.

I got put on this BC last year and ever since I had started I went from weighing 132 lbs. to about 154. There was no change in diet and I was still regularly excercising. It is now the end of my yearly prescription, and the two weeks I have been off if, I've lost about 7 pounds. I recently got switched to Microgestin, which shows bad reviews, but hopefully it works for me. If not, I guess I'll be searching for another medicaiton. Overall I wasn't satisfied due to the fact with the weight gain and I also had longer periods when I was on it. I also was very moody and depressesd, I would necessarily agree with taking this medication.Read More Read Less

I was prescribed Yasmin to cope with extremely heavy bleeding caused by uterine fibroids. My periods were still extremely heavy on this pill and lasted longer than usual [8-10 days]. I also experienced ongoing bleeding for several months [i.e. 3 to 4] when I first started Yasmin. Spotting was also an annoying side effect that never went away. We chose this pill for its ability to improve my acne but my skin was worse this year [i.e. ongoing breakouts and dryness] than it has been for the past decade. My depressed mood and breast tenderness always seem to be caused by the pill and this proved true with Yasmin. Aside from its ineffectiveness in lightening my periods, I am getting off Yasmin because I can no longer tolerate the extremely large [and painful] blood clots that I experience during my periods, which only began after taking Yasmin. My Ob/Gyn claims they must be caused by Yasmin and she is switching me to another pill immediately. Yasmin has been the worst form of the pill that I have ever taken. Please use extreme caution if you have been prescribed it.Read More Read Less

I got on yasmin when I got engaged and so far i'm very happy with it...lighter periods, no weight gain and its been very easy to use. I was only a little nauseated the first couple days i used it and even then it wasn't bad. so far so good!

I didn't get pregnant, so it did it's job. My skin got so clear it looked airbrushed so that was pretty nice but I gained 15 pounds without any change in my diet or level of physical activity. It affected my emotion so severely that I suffered from severe sadness, severe anxiety, severe mood swings and anything else you can imagine that can mess with your overall well being. I became paranoid that I was going to die...for no reason at all. I was simply convinced. A lot of regrettable things happened during the duration of using yasmin and I will never go on it again. In fact, it has terrified me so much, I have banned even the idea of everf using birth control pills again.Read More Read Less

i have been on yaz since the summer of 2005. i went on yaz for my endometerosis and it has worked amazingly for it. within the past year i have had supposed stomache ulcer, i had gall bladder attack at the end of december of 2008, my gall bladder came out in march of 2009, and then i am still having the pain like i did when i had a gall bladder. i also have lost my sex drive, i am moodier, and i cry pretty much one-two times a week. my doctor asked me back in june if i wanted to go off yaz, i said no b/c it was helping my endometerosis. at the time it had not come out that yaz was being tied to gall bladder issues. i was not having any of the other issues, except for crying and the reduction in my sex drive. i started paying closer attention to my symptoms when i saw the lawsuit and gall bladder issues where mentioned. needless to say i have a doctors appt and will be switching pills. i also have the tightening in the chest, shortness of breathe, and indegestion. i attributed it to my body adjusting to not having a gall bladder. As far as being effective, I have never had a pregnancy scare on Yasmin for over 4 years now. However, the last year or so I have started having HORRIBLE anxiety, mild depression, Chest Pain (my doctor couldn't explain), NO sex drive, weight gain that has packed on for four years, even more so this last year. I've even had unexplained dizziness since switching to Ocella, the generic version, and sharp nerve/neck pains in the past few months. It wasn't until my friend told me about this Yasmin lawsuit that I started to think...hey....this could be my problem?!!! I'm so over this b/c. I think your body can handle it at first and then eventually, it takes it's toll. I have no energy, super tired all the time. After reading HUNDREDS of reviews online it's starting to make sense. I'm really NOT crazy. I DO NOT recommend this medication to anyone. Read More Read Less

I decided to write this because I've noticed that a lot of people have experienced mood related issues whilst on Yasmin. For me, Yasmin works perfectly, no break-through bleeding, good skin, no excess hair loss (which I have had on other pills), no noticeable weight gain and I'm not pregnant. That aside though, it did destroy my sex-drive and often made me feel anxious and depressed. I did find a way to fix this though. As long as I take a multivitamin and probiotic daily and do some exercise (a quick jog or something) I do not have any side-effects from being on this pill. After feeling normal on Yasmin for a couple of weeks, I stopped taking the vitamin tablets and at first noticed no change so decided I was fine without them. Suddenly just one night, my sex drive was gone again and I was again lying on my bed crying and wondering why I bothered with life... So it's back on the vitamin tablets and back to feeling normal. This drug can be very dangerous, I've never felt so sad and been so irritable, but at least in my case I can manage it with the help of vitamins. Hope this is helpful to people.Read More Read Less

I have been on Yasmin a little over a year. It was great at first.... I was put on it because I had very heavy periods, psotting between periods and severe cramping. I would normally bleed for 12-14 days (even after the 7days of placebo). Now i have lighter periods and they are about 7-9 days long which is better than what i was use too. Now for the bad part- I have been getting leg cramps in the middle of the night that wake me, my hair is falling out ( i have to vaccumm my bathroom 2-3 times a week & use draino in the shower) and i have such bad anxiety and the heavy chest feeling. Its so bad that i have started seeing a therapist for it and we cannot pinpoint an exact reason why I am going through this because life wise, things are great. Then a light bulb clicked.... she asked me about my BC and if i have done any research. Hormones can be a very big factor. So here i am and it seems a lot of people are having the same issues. I have an appointment next week but i think i am going to call tomorrow and see if i can get in sooner.Read More Read Less

I've been on yasmin for 5 years. This is the first BC I didn't have problems with break through bleeding or headaches. The generic is NOT as effective. I had some nasty problems with it. The only side effects I have had from Yasmin is the skin darkening, nothing concealer won't cover. I am beginning to wonder if my recent B-12 deficiency is from Yasmin. I have battled with mood instable which I didn't relate to Yasmin. Overall, I have had no major problems from this BC.

I took the Yasmin for about 1 year with no real problems. I started taking the generic form and 3 weeks after that I was hospitalized because I developed BLOOD CLOTS in my lungs. I was in the hospital for 1 week and now have to take blood thinners for at least 6 months. It was determined that I have no genetic factors that caused the clots so it was caused by the birth control. My heart started racing about 1-2 weeks after starting the generic pill. The doctor said it was anxiety. Then about 1 1/2 weeks later I started getting calf pain and then I got a couple of really sharp stabbing chest pains. This was a horrible experience for me. Be cautious taking birth control. Don't ignore the symptoms if you have them.Read More Read Less

I've just finished my second week, and my ance is already clearing up (I have terrible skin). I take it before bed to avoid the nausea, though I've never had any nausea with Yasmin, just being safe. No mood swings out of the ordinary, no cramping, no issues what-so-ever. So far, this is the best pill I've been on!

I was prescribed Yasmin several years ago when it was not yet on the market completely. My doctor gave me a number of trial/test packets so that I did not have to pay prescription costs for another brand. HUGE mistake, should have taken something reputable. During the 8 months I was on it, I suffered from intense and frequent mood swings, depression, irritability, inability to concentrate, weight gain, severe nausea, vomiting, migraines, daily headaches, bloating, spotting, constantly tired, yeast infections, rashes and I developed random and serious allergies to all sorts of foods that I had eaten previously. I can't even be around these foods now without itching and swelling. There were several instances when I had morning sickness for days on end followed by dry heaving. My cramps barely got better and my periods were longer and heavier - not the point!! Unfortunately many of these side effects have been long term although things did greatly improve when I quit taking Yasmin. What prompted me to discuss other options with my doctor was the fact that it was not FDA approved at the time (which she failed to mention), it was outlawed in the European Union and a 17 year old girl from Sweden had died from it over the summer. I remember not hearing about the product for a long time then is came back again as YAZ... whatever - do not take this stuff!!! If the FDA is making them do a commercial to explain some things that are unclear, take that as the cue to avoid at all costs. I still have severe allergies, nausea, daily headaches... permanent side effects. Read More Read Less

I've taken this medication twice, and both times it has made me severely depressed and anxious and caused a whole host of other problems. Please do a google search for this medication, there are many women who have had major problems with this birth control pill. It works great for some, but the risk is NOT worth it. I am still depressed two years after taking this pill for five weeks. When I began taking it, I was the happiest I've ever been in my life. It was like falling off a cliff, and I have never recovered. I have no libido, acne, thinning hair, and have gained 40 pounds, most of that in the first 3 months after taking it. At this point I feel like my life will never be back to normal again. Please, do NOT take this medication.Read More Read Less
