I'm writing this review to set the record straight. First of all, I'm a 20 year old college student who has never had a child before. My doctor and I made the decision to go with Mirena because of complications with the birth control pill OrthoTriCyclen Lo. After reading many negative reviews about Mirena- I was very hesitant to go through with getting it. I was so nervous I delayed getting ...

I had no problems at all with insertion. A little cramping that evening but thats all. I spotted the first 3 months right around my time of the month, and then my periods stopped completely. Every now and then I may spot for a day or so. After about 6 months I started getting acne and now (almost a year into it)my acne is still around and my breasts get sore every few weeks. But its great. I don't have to think about it. My mid wife told me to wait a week till I had intercourse, but we did a few days later and my husbad had no complaints about the string "poking" him. I don't think I would want to use then after I am done having babies, but it's great for in between. I recommend this to anyone. Read More Read Less

I have two kids now and I had the IUD put in after my second child...i loved it. It was slightly painful to put in but I would do it again if i had to. Its so nice, one less thing to worry about. And lets be truthful, sometimes you go out and have a little to much to drink or whatever and you and your husband come home and forget the condom...well not a problem, not to mention when we get five minutes to be intimate with eachother we do not have time to mess around with condoms and such.

I have been very satisfied with this medication and would usee again. It was painful to put in, but worth it. I have very light periods now and they have regulated. I also like the fact I can try for another child right after having it removed. I also don't have the moon swings pills and patches give me! After your first child, try it!

i've had this thing for almost 4 month now. was very painful to have put in. my body went into shock. I haven't had any kids, but they thought this was the best for me. since i've had it, i've been told it can cause infections such as UTI's and also PID. I've had constant spotting since it was inserted and also constant cramping. As of tomorrow i get it removed, but i'm afraid of it hurting like it did going in. I def. would not suggest this to anyone

Insertion was painful, but went very quickly, it was not unbareable. Only had light spotting for first few days. Some mild cramping on and off since insertion. So far so good.

I have had two attempts at placeing Mirena, both have failed. Each device came out before a month had gone by. It was worth a try (two actually) but it didn't work for me.

just got it put in a few days ago. It was very painful for me (i haven't had any kids and i have a small cervix). The pain subside a little by the end of the night. I have still had some cramping and back pains along with some spotting. So far, even with the pain, i am decently happy. Takes the stress of pregnancy out.

I have only had slight break through bleeding, which occurred mostly within the 1st year of insertion. I have not had any periods or any pregnancy 'scares' like I did on the pill.

I love my IUD. The insertion was painful but tolerable, and for two years now I have had much shorter and less painful periods - fantastic. I don't have kids, which I know is when they usually like to do IUDs, but always hated the pill; Mirena has been great.

I had mirena inserted because Dr was concerned about long-term effects of Depo-Provera injections(which has worked beautifully for nearly 10 years). The insertion wasn't bad, but I developed lesions that made urination incredibly painful. Eventually medication cleared that up, but I was dry, itchy and uncomfortable - intercourse was painful. Dr. removed it after four months. My allergist suspects a nickel allergy was the problem. So, if you have many allergies, this may not be the answer for you.Read More Read Less

I have had my mirena for almost 2 years now. I had very little pain upon insertion, about the same as a pap smear. My periods are lighter, shorter, and less frequent. I had heavy and unpredictable periods for the first few months, but after that it has been great!

It was very painful during insertion, and I have had alot of side effects from weight gain, depression, heavy vaginal discharge, cramps, and breast tenderness. On the plus side, no period and no pregnancy. Want it removed but worry it will hurt just as much.

I have noticed that since using this product, I have less periods and when I do get them, they aren't very heavy. I would highly recommend this product to my friends and family.

I initially started using mirena as a way to control my outrageously long and heavy periods. It took a while but after a year I almost never even have a period. And thankfully am no longer anemic. And I havnt gotten pregnant yet so its pretty effective in that way. Im thinking of having it removed. Side effects are mild but I have been hearing way too many horror stories about it. I already know they cant find the string so If i did accidentally get pregnant I would have to try to carry to term with Mirena in me. If I didnt miscarry there are still other risks to a baby. I just don't want to take that chance. Plus i also think its been negatively effecting my sex drive.Read More Read Less

i've found out in the 3 months that i've had it, it can cause infections like UTI's and PID.
