I'm writing this review to set the record straight. First of all, I'm a 20 year old college student who has never had a child before. My doctor and I made the decision to go with Mirena because of complications with the birth control pill OrthoTriCyclen Lo. After reading many negative reviews about Mirena- I was very hesitant to go through with getting it. I was so nervous I delayed getting ...

I am glad that I cannot get preganant but I have been bleeding every since I got the mirena inserted four months ago. And my hair is falling out like crazy. I am considering getting it removed.

I haven't had a period since the 3rd month after getting the IUD. I love it. Its there, I just don't have to remember to take anything, or do anything. It's wonderful!

Simplicity and effectiveness is wonderful. Side effects are horrible. Headaches, Moodiness, Cramps, Low Libido, Irregular Periods, Acne. There has to be a better way! I very rarely have a period, but I feel like I'm PMS-ing 3 weeks out of 4.

I love not having to worry about getting pregnant but the side effects are horrible. Mood swings, no period, headaches, and sex drive is gone. I am planning on having it removed in 1 month.

It will be a year in January and I'm starting to have every side effect listed: daily headaches, nausea, palpitations, hair loss, and weight gain.

I've never had a child, but after conducting research online and seeking medical advice, I decided to have it inserted. The process was very painful, even though it was inserted on the second day of my period. I feel as if in constant PMS (mild cramps, bloating, back pain, breast tenderness, mood changes, joint pain). I have been spotting regularly. My sex drive has not been affected at all, fortunately. I've considered having it removed, but I have been advised to wait for my body to adjust to the hormone (3-6 months). I take Naproxen Sodium on a daily basis to ease the pain and discomfort. Hopefully I'll feel better and fully enjoy the benefits and convenience of this birth control method. Read More Read Less

I decided to use Mirena after giving birth to my second child. Getting this device inserted felt as if I was in labor again. My period lasts for two weeks now instead of the three days before I had the procedure done. I have no sex drive whatsoever, acne all over my body, backaches, mood swings, weight gain and headaches. On the plus side I have no cramping, no stress over missing the pill and I am giving this device a year to work before I decide to take it out. It works great against conception and that is a great plus for me.Read More Read Less

With my experience, the only good thing about this IUD is that I haven't gotten pregnant. Everything else about it, for lack of a better word, SUCKS...since I got the mirena inserted over a year ago after the birth of my first child, I have frequent headaches, frequent breakthrough bleeding, and no sex drive whatsoever. If you enjoy engaging in sex on a regular basis, you want to steer clear of the mirena.

I have to children, after my second child I decided to go for Mirena. Most of my family has it and they recommended it. I had a bit of cramping when it was first put in but it was worth it. I don't have to worry about it, you don't feel it and it doesn't bother your partner. Just make sure you are not having intercourse before you but in the IUD. I heard that my friend had it inserted and she had intercourse about five days earlier and she was pregnant at the time of the IUD put in. But other that that I hear many bad things from friends who don't even have it hummm.... Try it! Its been great since I put it in. I believe the only side effect I have in the acne. I have had this device insertd after 2 pregnancies. It was a little painful when inserted but not too bad. spotting for a while but eventually went away. after the first time of using it removal didnt hurt at all i got pregnant within a month. I chose mirena again because i dont have to worry about remembering to take the pill. my sex drive was low for a while but its coming back. with the first one the doctor cut the strings too short i couldnt find them so i went to the doctor they done a sonogram and it was still in so if you have that problem see the doctor its very easy to check. if you have it put in make sure they cut the strings long they eventually soften and will not hurt your partner. I have had the mirena for about two(after my second child). It was very pain upon insertion, spotted for a month or two off and on, but lately I have suffered with 3 to 4 vaginal itching in past 3 month and my blood sugar has been run kind of high. My sex drive is completely gone.I suffered with lot of mood swing (so my husband and son(17yrs old) tell me), have a rash on my chin and ear that I have been seen the dermatology for about 3 to for month (hard to get rid of. I have mild cramps sometimes.I am call my gyn tommorrow, think about having removed to many side effect going on, but overall very effect for prevention of pregancy and no period ( havent had a cycle in about 1 1/2 year. If you want to keep your sex drive no have it done. Read More Read Less

I am very happy that I got the Mirena. My cycle is light...if any. I don't have the cramping and don't have to remember to take something everyday. My one downer...my cycle seems to be higher when my stress level rises.

i can't say enough about how happy I am I chose the mirena. DEfinitly an option you should consider rather than using another birth control that is systemic (running throughout your entire system) LOVE IT!

I have had minimal trouble and feel more "sane" than before. I had extreme bleeding with the copper device and hardly any with this one.

I've had the Mirena properly placed for 5months. Ever since I've had it, I feel different. I'm having mood changes, nervousness and anxiety and 2 of my doctors don't think it's related. How can it be listed as a sympton in black and white and be totally ignored when complained about? Is anyone else having these issues???
