My son has ADD inattentive type; he does not have hyperactivity, just a complete inability to concentrate, remain organized, filter out ambient noise, remember tasks or finish tests on time. This medication has helped him greatly in all of those areas and he now finishes timed tests on time at school, a first in many years. He gets mild headaches, which is thus far the only ill effect. It's great ...

I am a 16 year old trans male. I started concerta in primary school and switched after 3 year due to severe depression and suicidal thoughts. I just re started it near the end of my junior year in high school. Its been working okay so far, but these comments kind of irk me. I can see how from a parents point of view this medication is working, but a good amount of these reviews I've seen have been...

In addition to my previous comment, if you have anxiety, depression, tics, overall nervous and jittery, trouble even talking... Like I did, ask your doctor about straterra which is not a stimulant drug and will maybe actually help these comorbidity symptoms rather than amplify them. Concerta although maybe helped focus at first, all the side effects clouded me more. Anyways straterra seems to be working for me so far, maybe will with others ho have anxiety amplified on concerta.

To each their own ! Probably why there are different medication options. Happy to read that this medication worked wonders to others. For me I felt always nervous inside, speedy and jittery. Anxiety, followed with depressive behaviors, tics... the works! Switching at this moment to strattera which is not a stimulant like concerta and others. Supposed reduce anxiety and tics. So far only 4 days and on strattera and even if it supposed to take longer for full effect and still taking concerta at same time for 10 days total diminishing the dosage to full stop after 10 days, I notice a huge difference on my anxiety and nervousness, not jittery and feel like I was on some kind of speed drug. Just hope everything will pursue in the right direction after time and stopping concerta completely ! I know strattera can also be taken with a stimulant if needed. Read More Read Less

i am currently a 13 year old in grade nine. Agreeing to take this drug was by far the worst decision of my life. The first week or two were fine, all it did was increase my grades. however the problems started to increase fast. I suddenly felt depressed, anxious, im never hungry, my mouth becomes so dry it is difficult to speak, and i fell emotionless. Now im trapped with this, because my mom may be satisfied with the result, but she will never understand how it truly effects me. i tried to explain to her, but she wouldnt let me. If any parents see this i beg you to not give this to your child. The emotional trauma is simply not worth going through for academic achievement.Read More Read Less

My doctor prescribed me this along with zoloft for my anxiety, depression, and ADHD. Not only is it not effective enough for me, it made the anxiety and depression worse and for a while i just thought it was me and not my medications so my zoloft was made stronger but recently i have looked more into my medications and clear as day it has said that concerta should not be used by patients with anxiety and depression. So this is a bit of a warning please be aware and do research on whats prescribed to you. I don't think its a bad drug just not for me. I also have a loss of appetite, stomach pain, and dizziness at times but are minor and could be from the zoloft Read More Read Less

This medication actually calms me down more than it helps focus, but it definetely makes me feel calmer and has not caused any problems so far. It DOES stop being as effective after a few years but otherwise its perfect!

I was diagnosed 4 months ago at 40 years old with severe ADHD. The diagnosis explained pretty much my entire life. I began taking 18 mg of Concerta and found that it wore off after about 8 hours. I was upped to 36 mg with the exact same effect. When it wore off my head turned into a war zone. I was raised to 54 mg. It seemed amazing at first as focusing became easy but I also felt like a baby learning to walk for the first time. I have been on 54 mg for 2 months now. PMS time is the worst. I fall into a pit of severe depression that even I don't understand. I am gaining massive weight even though I am eating almost nothing due to a severe lack in appetite. I have lost all desire to do any task in any day. I am slowly weaning back down to nothing as I would rather have my chaotic brain and inability to focus than to feel this way. I don't feel like myself anymore. I don't even know if I feel anything anymore. I am so emotionally numb.Read More Read Less

I have been on Concerta since 4th grade and I'm 18 now. I decided to take a break when I was 16 and almost didn't pass my junior year. When I went to get back on my medicine my new doctor put me on adderall. It literally made me crazy and I lost 30 lbs. in 2 months. I weighed 105 lbs. My mom demanded that I get back on Concerta and the doctor finally gave in. My weight improved and so did my ability to think clearer. My advice is don't ever think you're okay and can just quit taking your medicine after years because you have good grades and everything is going well. The medicine is helping make that possible. You will crash and burn if you quit cold!Read More Read Less

Wow, I can't belive I waited that long to start this medication that was prescribed to me 10 years ago. Since I started to take this medication my life really changed for the best. Before, I couldn't do ANYTHING, not my dishes, not read a book, not work ... I had ZERO concentration and I had a real behavior problem and snapped at random stupid stuff. My friends all noticed the change and they tell me my attitude and whole day to day self really changed for the best. Don't wait to take this medication, GO it really works!Read More Read Less

I love this medicine, it has helped me focus in school and in my everyday activities. I have been taking concerta for roughly 12 years now, and when I don't take it I do realize a change in concentration. It is all I have ever take for my ADD and I would highly recommend it.

I first reviewed this in January. I have been taking Concerta now for 5 months, 18mg. I love it. I don't feel like I get over focused and if I happen to not take it for a few days I don't get depressed. (This happened to me several times with Ridilin). I highly recommend Concerta.

I had been taking instant release ritalin from ages 5-9 but then changed to extended release (concerta) because I didn't like taking it at school (and having everyone know I had to take medication). I started at 36 mg but by the time I was 23, I was on 90mg (my doctor wanted me on 102mg but I didn't want to be at that high a dosage just in case there were long term effects that hadn't been discovered yet). I have intensely severe ADHD WITHOUT hyperactivity so this may be different for me vs others with regular ADHD. Ritalin worked well on me as a kid but as I got older (and started taking the generic kind of concerta), I felt like it wasn't releasing evenly - like it would release too much at one point and not enough at another point. I felt exhausted. My doctor told me about Vyvanse but I refused because it's the stimulant component of Adderall (and I will never mess around with Adderall because it's horrible and literally CAUSES PSYCHOSIS in people) but I finally said ok and it has been the best change I've made in a long time. TL;DR: works well but be careful with the generic kind. it may be cheaper but is less effective. My doctor literally doesn't even prescribe it (generic concerta) to people unless they were already taking it before they became his patient (like me)Read More Read Less

My psychiatrist gave this to me for my depression to work in tandem with the medicine Brintellix and Lamotrigine. Although those medicines have given me genuine emotion back, I still feel tired most of the time even with a healthy diet, regular exercise, and consistent sleep schedule. We hoped this would give me energy. However, it made me wake up earlier, thus negating any positive effects it could have had. It also made me slightly lightheaded and queasy at times. So, the medicine just plain didn’t work for me, though the side effects weren’t devastating like the ones some other psychiatric medicines may cause.Read More Read Less

Worked for the first 2 weeks. Thought we would see a bigger change but there was enough of a change to see progress(only on 18 mg). The child became increasingly weepy at school and at home over every little thing which was completely out of the norm. Then in the 3rd week, the school called to come get the the child who had to be escorted in from the playground shaking and hallucinating, not very coherent. She was taken off the meds immediately. Wish there was a safer way to effectively treat this; we're at square 1 again as the Dr. will not prescribe any stimulants based upon this reaction.Read More Read Less

I remember back a year ago of taking this medication and all it did for me was decrease my appetite and make me depressed. I finally knew what depression felt like when I was cutting myself and crying in the shower. And when I went too bed. So sad

I have been on a generic of Concerta for quite a few years now. It has been a learn-as-you-go experience for me. First it was 36mg daily in a.m. for about a month, not much help. Then it was 54mg daily for about 6 months and all seemed good until about 2 or 3 p.m. when my concentration would start failing. A few months later, after consulting with my doctor, the dosage was changed to an unusual (from what pharmacists say) 54mg twice daily. One pill when getting up and again at about 3 p.m. After about two months and some experimenting (in a good way), my current dosage is one 54mg pill upon waking and 1/2 of a pill (~27mg) at 3 p.m. All has worked great for about the last 8 years since this change. Although this has worked for me (my doctor is in agreement), it is definitely not for everyone. Consult with your doctor before considering anything similar.Read More Read Less

I just started takin Concerta so I can't fully give it a lower or higher rating. I've read a few of the reviews and can't believe the level of dosage doctors are prescribing. Im a 230lb male that is 42 years old. My doctor gave me 18 mg dosage slow release. When I read that some are taking upwards of 90mg it blew my mind. I'm going to try the 18mg for a month and come back and give a report. Heck, 20 mg of Ridilin way over focused me.

I've discovered that the best way to take this medication is every day in the am. The earlier the better, if you don't drink enough fluids it won't work. If I stop using it during the summer or on break and start again I have 3 days of feeling cracked out. The best way to use this medicine and sleep and dominate school is force yourself to eat. Good sleep, eat decently with fluids to put the food down and a big meal at the end of the night and you're solid. Obviously it slow releases, so take it an hour before class and then throughout class with hydration and snacks youll be fine. Read More Read Less
