Last time I refilled my Symbicort I got this generic and just a few days into using it my asthma symptoms are back, shortness of breath and chest tightness. My asthma has been previously controlled for years and I was feeling great. Not sure what to do but this generic drug does not seem to be delivering the same amount of medicine effectively that would equal Symbicort. Awful experience so far and I’m not sure what I can do.

I have the same problem as everyone else. The canister is hard to use. I feel like it works the first time but not the second.

I have been on Symbicort for some time. It works amazingly well for me. It keeps my asthma completely 100% at bay. When I inhale it I immediately feel the relief and immediately feel a release of phlegm (even If Im not wheezing or wouldn't otherwise know it was there). If I do not take it within a week or so I will have wheezing, congestion and a need for steroids. My pharmacy (through no permission of mine or request) filled this Symbicort refill with Breyna. When I asked why they said it was cheaper and it was the SAME medication, just generic. no, no and no. I've had the generic Symbicort and it looked and worked EXACTLY as Symbicort (I think it's even made by them). This is something entirely different. The Breyna came in a form factor that looked like it was for a child. It's tiny. Like really tiny. And, after I primed it and took it I smelled, tasted and felt NOTHING. Not a thing. like it wasn't even there. I'm not even sure it dispensed properly. Hours later I could start to feel labored breathing. It was TOTALLY 100% ineffective. Thinking I may be crazy I googled it and found exactly what I described as a complaint. I do not know HOW this drug was approved. I do not know WHY the pharmacy thinks they can just change my Symbicort rx for Breyna. The funny thing is, on the pharmacy app, the drug now shows as BREYNA, not the generic "Budesonide / Formoterol" but the BRAND Breyna. How is that even remotely legal or ethical? It is NOT the same drug. From what I now understand, Breyna is missing an ingredient found in the formulation for Symbicort. It did NOT work for me. I had the pharmacy do a refill for the SYMBICORT and when I took it I IMMEDIATELY felt relief, tasted and smelled the medicine and my reliable little "plhlegm ball" came up. It works . . . instantly (sorry to be gross but it is what it is). Totally shocked this is a thing. Read More Read Less

I am a 53 old male that is very active. I went from having my asthma under control and good respiratory ability to a much worse respiratory condition when I started using Breyna (the generic). I don't know how this product can stay on the market as a generic which is supposed to be equivalent to Symbicort. There is something terribly wrong with Breyna. I requested that my doctor write my RX to put me back on Symbicort.

My asthma was completely controlled on Symbicort and significantly worsened after a month using Breyna. I'm assuming it is the design of the device; it is not as effective as Symbicort.

Major difference for some reason between Breyna and Symbicort. Symbicort had my asthma fully controlled and I very rarely needed my rescue inhaler, usually only when I got a cold or something. On Breyna, I am having awful asthma symptoms again and trying to get switched backed to Symbicort.

I would give this zero stars but it is not an option, you have to choose 1 star. I was offered Breyna as a generic for my Symbicort 160/4,5 when I filled my prescription. Within a few days I was wheezy and had phlegm coming on, it did not work for me and unfortunately I had it filled in a 3 month supply. I am out a lot of money and can not return it to the pharmacy for the two brand new prescriptions that are unopened. My asthma was well controlled with Symbicort, it was not at all with Breyna. Even the inhailer did not work as well. It was a very bad experience, leaving me scrambling to get my hands on Symbicort again.Read More Read Less

Even though the medication says it's the same , does not seem to get the job done. I have some wheezing in between doses. But the real problem is the dispenser, it is very hard to push the canister completely down. The Symbicort dispenser never failed and was simple to use, sad that Breyna can't just copy it. Lastly the instructions tell you to store the container upright, this new one falls over at the slightest bump, etc.

Been on it 3 months and breathing has gotten worse, short on breath. It is hard to work, small and cheaply made.

This is my second month using Breyna and I am extremely disappointed. I seem to lose my breath so easily since switching. It's hard to tell if I am even getting a full dose when I spray. The canister is hard to press since it is so small. I had a little Symbicort left from my last prescription that I kept in my purse & decided to use it to see if it made a difference. It certainly did and I could feel relief and not get out of breath so easily. I am going to ask my doctor to switch me back to Symbicort. I was excited that a generic was finally out there but they need to work a bit harder on that canister so that a full spray is emitted. Otherwise, it is a waste of my money. I decided to come here to check out reviews and was not surprised at all the complaints. Read More Read Less

I’ve used Symbicort and generic one also, I was switched to Breyna by pharmacy. It is hard to use and it doesn’t deliver the same amount of medication. This device is horrible. I have been on Symbicort for over 10 years and the generic. I am seeing my doctor tomorrow and asking him to tell the pharmacy to switch me back.

I have been on Breyna for less than a month and it is not effective. SOB and wheezing is worse. The inhaler does not always administer a full dpse of medication. In general I feel much worse since using this drug instead of Brand . I am going to ask my physician to switch me to another drug. I am very surprised that this got FDA approval!

The Breyna switch from Symbicort, which was a fantastic medication to control asthma, has been fine so far over the past few weeks. It's the device that's an issue. The device does not provide a full dose of the medication with each use. If you take the canister out of the device and reinsert the full dose is provided, however, the canister does not sit above the lip of the device to allow one to take it out each time. I have been using a pair of pliers to do this! I do not feel this is appropriate to place a drug on the market that is not useful as it stands, and it is very disappointing. Read More Read Less

My pharmacy switched me from Symbacort to Breyna and my symptoms immediately got worse. Breyna doesn’t seem to actually dispense much medication at all. All inhalers I have used in the past (besides the red brand albuterol inhaler which also barely works) have a taste and a feel when you use them. Breyna had almost none. After switching back to Symbacort my symptoms improved.

Breyna is suppose to be the same as symbicort that I have used for years. It doesn't put out anywhere as much medication. I'm out of breath when I do anything.

The container is very tiny, hard to push, and emits practically nothing. While Symbicort worked well for me, this Breyna excuse for medication does nothing. I have had asthma problems, blurred vision, severe heartburn on at least three days of a week while using Breyna, and more arthritis pain, than usual. I have just read that I should not be taking it with a cataract and with ever having had an irregular heart rhythm and thinning bone concerns. It also makes a person more susceptible to infections, a risk I cannot take. I will not accept this substitute again, and I am going to rely only on my emergency inhaler and Montelukast to get me through until the next inhaler will be available. It is hard to imagine that Breyna could help anyone. It most certainly is not for me. I will share my experience with my doctor when I go to the clinic and with my pharmacist. Thank you for the opportunity to share this serious and life quality affecting reality and concern. Read More Read Less

Breyna was absolutely worthless for me. After insurance surprised .e without warning switching me to bryena my asthma was not controlled. I developed worsening symptoms daily within hours of the first dose. I used a rescue inhaler more than 10 times the second day. I normally do not use it once in 4 years. I went back on my remaining symbicort and symptoms cleared up in one day. I went back on breyna with the same result. Went back on symbicort a Second time and it cleared up once again. There is no doubt in my mind that breyna does NOT work at all. You can clearly see that it does not deliver the same level of medication. What little there is does nothing at all. I do not believe it works for anyone. The manufacturer also makes wixela inhub which also does not work. Viatris makes both worthless medications. These medications made me sick and nearly killed me. I could not breathe on this medication. I fear this medication will kill people. It is wasting the time and resources of medical facilities who have to write prior authorization and find alternatives for patients. Insurance companies which have no knowledge or qualifications to say what medications people should use are making that decision. They think this junk is as good as symbicort. For me and others it is not equivalent. The insurance companies make no effort, that I know of to determine the effectiveness of this a d other drugs. It is not less effective. For me it had no effectiveness what so ever. Read More Read Less

I have nothing good to say about my last couple of days using this medication. I was on symbicort, which has helped me tremendously. This is the first time using Breyna, which I did not ask for and it is worthless. It does not work. I am suffering terribly because it doesn't work and just paid a lot of money for it. I am contacting the pharmacy ASAP.

My prescription was modified to use this inhaler in lieu of the Symbicort inhaler I had been using to years. I find the inhaler to be childish in size and very suspect when it comes to the actual dispensing of the medication. I have run test upon test dispensing the medication into the air and noted that more than half of the time, no medication was dispensed but the count had been reduced. Reported to my pharmacist and they are changing the script back to Symbicort immediately. As a suggestion, check the inside of the dispenser and see if any white residue is present. After a week of using mine i went to clean as per the directions and unlike my Symbicort inhaler, there was no medicine residue. Read More Read Less
