Effexor has worked for me every time. Recently I had another episode of depression after a stressful work situation and not pursuing my own goals and hobbies. As it always happens I had forgotten how horrible depression is and I also had some doubts: would Effexor work again? I was very worried for the first two weeks. I read some negative reviews and thought maybe this time the medication would n...
Unfortunately, my 25 year-old son's depression worsened and he thought he could correct it by taking a second pill. This unfortunately led him to commit suicide December 5, 2007. Please, please be careful and read the information provided.

After 16 horrible months and trying 7 other medications I hit on the one that made all the difference. Gave me my life back. Few side effects, easy to tolerate, totally effective.

Have been on this medication for quite some time, as I have fibromyalgia. It has helped a lot and I am so very grateful.

The difference for me is night and day. It does cost a lot, and I have tried other drugs. THis one helps.

I went on Effexor after having been on Prozac for a number of years. I found it easy to use and worked well for my depression. However, if i miss a few doses, I get light headed/dizzy which reminds me that I've forgotten it. Which is both positive and negative, for I do not look forward to ever coming off of this drug due to the withdrawals I experience from just a few days off of it.

I only took one Effexor tablet and I thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown. I went from feeling a bit edgy, due to a terminal illness in the family, to totally 'freaked out'. It took several weeks for me to feel back to normal again.

Very pleased with effexor. The only trouble I had, was taking it on an empty stomach. Must be taken after eating.

I must take this medication every day. If I skip more than one dose I feel like I'm getting the flu. Other than that it has worked fine without any other side effects.

Was taking for anxiety/panic. Took for about two years. Took for work related stress. So calming, nothing phased me. Could fall asleep in seconds. Would go to car on lunch hour and mininap, out in a flash and wake up totally fresh. Was worried about things I had read about stopping use of but I gradually reduced dose as suggested and was off in two weeks with no problems. I have since retired. Was taking the XR. It made me do some funny things like missing my exit off the freeway.

I've had no problems with this drug. Due to severity of depression I've added another drug and both work well in treating my depression.

I was much less grouchy, weepy and more patient like my old self. This was my experience with a very low dose.

Worked much better than Lexapro with far fewer side effects. Have been on 150mg XR & 75mg XR after the sudden death of my spouse of 30 years. Doesn't interfere with other meds I'm taking either.

It worked great for hot flashes and accompanying nausea. Almost immediate relief. It has caused me to wake up in the middle of the night. Would still recommend.

You need someone to monitor any drug for depression. you needs change and your body adjusts so after a long time you may need a change or increase.

Effexor had a short-term effect on my symptoms and a horrible effect on my sex life...leaving me frustrated and further depressed. I switched to Cymbalta and, although it also interfers with sex life, it didn't leave me feeling as bad about losing this part of my life. You can still have sex, just not the orgasm (very frustrating) but I'm on a much more even keel and mentally feeling safer.
