I was prescribed Pamelor for stomach and digestive issues. I went to Dr's for over a year getting test after test done and no one was able to find what caused my pain. I took 50mg each night and after about 2 weeks noticed I was able to eat without feeling sick! I did have some side effects: some hair loss (nothing noticable) and he nightmares were bad, but being able to eat food again without being miserable was worth it!

I have been using this medication for Migraine headaches for about 2 weeks now and I love it. I had been having a 2 1/2 week streak of waking up every morning with a migraine, since starting this medicine I have not had one at all, however I do wake up with a very dry mouth, but to me it is worth it.

I am taking 25 mgs. of Pamelor for headaches. It took about 2-3 weeks to work, but I haven't had a headache in 8 days now! I am definitely pleased with this aspect. The only side effect I've experienced that I don't like is constipation, but I have IBS with constipation anyway. I take Metamucil, stool softener, eat prunes and apples to combat that. I do sleep longer and feel just a tad sluggish in the morning but it dissipates quickly enough. I dream a lot, though, not bad dreams, just busy. I wake frequently but have no trouble falling back asleep. I am menopausal, too, so part of my sleep disruption is due to that. Overall I'm happy with Pamelor.Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this medicine for nerve pain and muscle spasms, along with my depression. Cymbalta did not seemed to b be working anymore but after taking this medicine I experienced hand swelling, hallucinations, sleeping for about 15 hours and had terrible nightmares. Gained about 5 lb in one week and I did not have an appetite. Worst experience ever.

My neurologist put me on this for migraines. I have noticed a slight decrease in the frequency of my migraines. I do not think the side effects are worth it though. I feel like i'm in a fog all the time and have had suicidal thoughts. If you are not depressed do not take a depression medication. I feel as though doctors should use pain/migraine Rx for migraines. I have become very irritable and snappy with my husband and others around me. I am a very nice person that is not my personality. I have thought about suicide 3 times since starting this. It has made me crazy. Will be seeing my Dr. in a week for another option.Read More Read Less

So this is why I am gainning weight. I'm taking Pamelor for migraines. I have daily headaches and Pamelor decreased the amount of pain medicine I take a little. Yes, I have days that I take less pain meds but most days it is the same. About 15% decrease. I don't like the trade off of the weight gain. Strange dreams, cotton mouth, takes longer to get going in the morning.

After trying many, many anti-depressants my Dr. decided to try this. I've been on it for a year and it has really done it's job!

I took Pamelor years ago and felt it was a wonder drug. I felt as though the weight of the world had been lifted. My doctor recently gave me Pamelor, but the prescirption bottle shows nortriptyline hcl, I take this at night. It knocks me out and I have trouble getting up in the morning and feel so relaxed that I am not functioning at what I would call a normal level. I do not think it is the same.???

Being treated for shingles, nothing but Pamelor worked for me. Although I still have pain and it comes in waves, I am finally able to sleep at night with diminished pain and that is what makes this drug great for me. Shingles pain is the worst I have ever had and NOTHING helped but this drug.

My treatment started for migraines. A 250 mg of depakote twice a day and 25 mg of pamelor once a day. This cleared up most of my migraines and the ones I did get were weak in comparison. My life was much better. When I changed neurologist I had to do a stress test for the heart because the two meds together caused heart flutters. So I was taken off the pamelor then all H… broke loose. I became depressed and developed IBS and my migraines came more often and more painful. I was in a downward spiral for two years. My life is getting back to normal but I am not happy about post pamelor conditions. I now take prozac which helped ease up the post symptoms. Read More Read Less

A neurologist rxed for L3-4, L4-5 moderate herniated discs, secondary to Scliosis. Titrated 10mg each week to 50mg. At 30mg noticed decreased pain sensation. I was able to start excercising, etc. Also, had daytime brain fog and lack of enthusiam which became worse as I increased to 50mg. I'm in a stupor! Pamelor has slowed not only my stimuli to pain, but also normal everyday stimuli that brings enjoyment. Time to DC the med,and not stop phyiscal therapy ever again!

At 14 I was diagnosed with clinical depression and told I was emotionally disturbed. I began using this med after trying several others including Prozac. This was the only med that helped. At 17 I was weened off because of how well I was doing. Fast forward to 31, after discussing with my doctor we decided to use this drug again, I feel much better all together. I am sleeping better and can handle life calmer. After a week I feel great about myself. I am glad this med is still around.
