I have been on Zonisamide for almost 2 years. It was prescribed for athritis and sciatica. The arthur is completely gone and I rarely have sciatic pain. I never have headaches any more and I have lost almost 40 pounds while taking it. Love that. There have been no bad side effects that have changed my life style. I love Zonisamide. It has given me my life back.

When I was 18 my drivers licences was taken from me due to epileptic seizures. For 5 years I had to ask for rides to work, the store, or even just across town. In the course of those 5 years I would have sometimes 10 seizures a day, 3-4 times a week it is amazing i'm even still alive. In the spring of 08 I went to see a new specialtist she prescribed me 400 mg of zonisamide. she told me it would take at least 4-6 weeks to fully be in my system. during the first month of treatment I seized once 2 months later a very mild one so my wife says it is now the summer of 2010 and I have my drivers licence again. After the neorologist did his testing he said something I will never forget. There seems to be no sign of seizure activity. Thank you zonisamide Read More Read Less

i have been on this med since august of 09. i have had migraines since i was 12. am 28 now. was fed everykind of pain med, nothing worked, finally started having seizures bout 4 yrs ago, went to the dr and he said my siezures were because my brain couldnt handle my migraines any longer and was shutting down, yeah huh? right? so he put me on this zonisamide. i have only have one siezure since august but my migraines have almost completly stopped. i am always tired onthis med though thats for sure. i take 300 mg at nite when i go to bed and i dint move when i sleep. i dont dream. im moody bad for about an hour when i wake. i have lost bout 20 pds sinces starting this med. i notice numbness in my fingertips and hands. sometimes i cant find words and i stand and look stupid trying to think of a word or sentence, but to me it is all worth it if i dont have to worry bout migraines or siezures. i havent noticed any hair loss (knock on wood). i have noticed moodiness sometimes. but lke all meds it has its ups and downs.to me it lets me live without lying in the dark crying in pain, or convulsining on the floor so i will take the side effects. Taking 200mg at bedtime for migraines. Have tried EVERYTHING out there--finally got a doc with some sense. I hadn't really noticed, I know it sounds strange, but after about 4 wks on Zon. my migraines are slowing down! NOTE that I am also taking Omega 3 salmon oil caps...so whichever works, thank God! Maybe it's the combo.

This medicine is a double edged sword. It works great on contoling my seziures, but I have to sleep about 10 hrs a day just to be able to function properly. I have lost about 30 lbs and have NO appitite whatsoever and have had to resort to drinking nutritional suppliments (ick). My memory is as good as gone, I think it took a vacation with my hair, which is disappearing at an alarming rate. On a good note, these side effects are a lot better than some of the other epilepsy meds out there. After being on 300mg a day for 6 months, I show a 70-80% improvement in my seziure activity! This works great if you can keep the side effects under control. Especially the nutritional aspect of it, if it affects your appatite. Good luck everyone!Read More Read Less

I need to know if this medication is a narcotic. The reason I ask is because I had leg sugery and I am a recoverimg addict, and the doctor told me that this is a heavy narcotic.

I tried and was given all medications for a migraine seizure disorder.I found Zonisamide on my own.my Dr. was willing to let me try it.I have only had slight problems in the seven years I have been on this. I think it may be low blood suger.

I have just started taking meds for indigestion. I just went through the side effects for this med and found out it can give you indigestion. I will call my doctor and see if he will change this med to something else, because this med is for pain only. I do not have seizures. I have severe back pain. My phychatic doctor gave it to me for pain. I see him for pain and for depression. It also causes confusion and I have trouble getting my words out, my thought out,and my sentences out. This drives my husband crrazy. He been telling me for along time that the meds I was on was causing this. If I want to tell him something I hear on the news I have to write it down. Or just anything I want to tell him and rememeber I have to write it down. Read More Read Less

I began taking this drug approx. 6 yrs ago. Extremely new to me then and is still new to many physicians I've since encountered. It is a part of a medication cocktail that I take daily. I take 100 mg. b4 bed - I have not experienced a problem with it so far. Re: hair falling out... My hair has been falling out for a long long time now. I also take Depakoke ER and I have been on many other anti-convulsants that I believe to have contributed to that issue. I'm not surprised the medication might have that side-effect. A good person to ask is your pharmacist. I've been lucky - my pharmacists have always been eager to share information. Oh, and I've been taking anti-seizure meds for 37 years...I still have a head of hair.. :)Just keep the doctor informed if the hair loss gets too too extreme. :) All the best!!! I have been taking this medication since the beginning of August for Migraines. I started taking just 1 capsule of the 100mg at bedtime. and every 2 weeks I increase. Currently, I am up to 4 capsules at bedtime. I still have a nauseous feeling everyday and I still have just about everyday a constant headache. I can say, the pain has gotten better and I don't feel like I need to lay down and rest in a dark room as much and be alone. It doesn't effect my work as much. But I do have a hard time focusing with my eyes still and constantly see "an aura"... though I have 20/20 visionRead More Read Less

I began taking this medication last year for my temporal lobe epilepsy. I started off taking one 100 mg pill a day and slowly incresed to one pill 5 times a day, so basically every 3 hours. Now, I am up to 500 mg a day. I know this seems like a lot but this pill is so effective with no side effects I don't mind taking the pill so often. I went from having 3-10 horrific headaches a week following seizures to having MAYBE one a month now. Its a rare event for me to have break through seizures. This is my magic pill and it has given me my life back.Read More Read Less
