Just wanted to share my experience with Qelbree, which as you'll see, did *not* work out for me:
Started taking Qelbree after being diagnosed with Adult ADD (age 39) about 3 weeks ago. Decided to take it in the morning - 200 mg/day. Seemed fine at first - noticed a boost in alertness, found it a little easier to organize tasks at work. Also noticed my appetite starting to recede and a bit of nausea and constipation, but figured it was just my body getting used to the drug. I felt fairly optimistic after the first four days or so.
By day 5 I was feeling achy and irritable. Over the next couple days I began to realize that I didn't feel like myself at all - lost interest in things that made me curious, lost enthusiasm for things I liked doing. The alertness boost didn't really seem to be material anymore; it faded into the background at about day 7 or 8.
Everything got steadily worse in the coming weeks. I would wake up at 2am and wouldn't be able to fall back asleep. I'd experience extreme bouts of fatigue in the middle of the day, then, despite feeling worn out and exhausted at night (by 9 or 10pm), I wouldn't be able to fall asleep for a few hours. Then I'd wake up after 3 hours or so of sleep and would be wide awake again.
All the while, the stomach issues were worsening. I could hardly eat, had no desire to look at or smell food, and was still pretty badly constipated. Out of nowhere, I got a migraine on a Saturday night, which subsided after 3 hours or so. Despite all of this, I kept thinking it would get better - my mistake - but after 3 weeks on this stuff, I'm done. Came off yesterday morning.
My Dr. (in line with the official medical statements on Qelbree's page, WebMD, etc) had told me that there really wouldn't be any noticeable WD symptoms, especially given that I had only been on it for 3 weeks, and at just 200mg/day.
However - after no symptoms all day yesterday, through the evening - I woke up in the middle of the night (around 4am) with what I can only describe as a Thunderclap Headache. Easily the worst headache I've ever had, and quite possibly the worst pain I've experienced in 39 years. Absolutely brutal. And it lasted acutely for about 10 hours. After 15 hours I could still feel the shadow of it, but by then it was mostly gone.
Anyway, the only reason I had to go on Qelbree before, say, Ritalin or Concerta (Adderall is scarce, and, as my doctor had said, "liquid gold" at this time) is because my state requires the trial of a non-amphetamine before switching over. I've had Ritalin before, though not via prescription, and I had absolutely no issue with it. Ditto Adderall. Qelbree completely turned me sidewise.
So, yeah, if the side effects are this bad even after one week I would advise letting your doctor know so you can safely get off of it.Read More Read Less
