I have partial seizures and have tried every medication on the market, all with bad results (until Keppra). Depakote caused me to get a life-threatening case of pancreatitis (so BE CAREFUL!); Lamictal caused bruising and migraines; Topamax & Tegretol didn't work; et cetera. Many of them made me lose/gain weight and lose hair. I thought all hope was lost until they put me on Keppra. I've not lo...

I was being weened off previous seizure meds assuming that my seizures would subside. Three weeks into my drug therapy, I began to have significant psychiatric issues, which is not my nature. I was put on 24 hr. suicide watch as I was vocalizing attempts at suicide. I was angry, hostile, and depressed. I do not recommened this to anyone without fully looking into it

I do experience irratability from Keppra and feel Dilantin is a better option considering it's side effects.

I was given this drug for uncontrolled periodic limb movements. For the most part it seemed to work. I am now in process of coming off it as my new nuerologist, agress with me that I do not have seizures and will not need this.

Ihad been on Dilantin for over 30 years, my present Neurologist changed me to this drug because he noted the extensive nerve damage in my legs and advanced osteoarthritis which he contributed to the Dilantin. Other than the occasional anger flair ups at the most mundane situations, and the restlessness in th e middle of the night, and insomnia, I've had no adverse reaction. It is certainly better than living in the constant fog I had been under for over 30 years with Dilantin which still allowed 2-4 seizures to occur per year. I suspect that the anger flair ups will subside once my body adjusts and the proper dosage is worked out. I am presently taking 750mg twice daily as opposed to 400mg daily of Dilantin.Read More Read Less

This medication makes me very short fused over insignificant things. I have been slowly taken off it, but am still on 1250mg twice a day and the effects have seemed to go away with the combination of taking lamictal.

Started taking three months ago. So far, no seizures (I'd only had one before the first, though) Initial side effects were brutal: I slept two + hours every day and felt drugged and exhausted all the time. Now feel great and back to a normal sleeping regimen, sleep changes adjusted over two-three weeks as predicted. I do find sometimes I feel VERY awake at night and get a burst of energy for a couple hours, which is not like me. Am not a night person. Wake up feeling fine and energized, though, even with less sleep. Alcohol definitely is a caution: one drink with Keppra is a whole party in my brain. Two drinks = what used to feel like 4-5 drinks for me. (You are supposed to avoid alcohol with this medication, though, so I can't blame it.) I actually feel BETTER than before I took it, if a little altered and a teeny bit manic (I was high energy before, now it all just feels a little more intense/energized/revved up). Good luck to you with this med.Read More Read Less

I have been taking Lamictal for years until I mentioned Keppra to my doctor. It is supposed to cause depression, among other side effects but I have no problems so far. I am being taken off of Lamictal and am very pleased with the lack of trouble with this medication. I am eager to be off Lamictial completely. While Lamictal worked for years, Keppra seems to be the drug of choice for me now.

Keppra sucks. It made me feel physically horrible, very dizzy and tired. I took 1250mg bid in combination with 300mg Lamictal bid, and only after I had 8cm of my right temporal lobe removed did that drug combo work.
