I have partial seizures and have tried every medication on the market, all with bad results (until Keppra). Depakote caused me to get a life-threatening case of pancreatitis (so BE CAREFUL!); Lamictal caused bruising and migraines; Topamax & Tegretol didn't work; et cetera. Many of them made me lose/gain weight and lose hair. I thought all hope was lost until they put me on Keppra. I've not lo...

This is a wonderful medication for me, I have tried numeruos medications including Neurontin, Tegretol, and Triliptol and Keppra has been the most effective at controlling my epilepsy and also helping me feel normal while taking it. The other medications side effects were so bad that I would stop taking them risking having a seizure.

It works 100% but it costs way too much. I am on SS and retired. We had to pay $1,000.00 for three months supply. We had to put it on our charge card as we also have many many other RXs for my wife and myself. No generic is available and we think this is price gouging to charge this much for a life or death drug.

I began taking 1000 mg per day. After a few years I had another seizure, therefore my mediciation was increased to 1500 mg per day. I have not had a seizure on this dosage for 6 years.

I take Keppra and Tegretol together. I have been siezure free for the past two years!! Before I was on combination therepy with Neurontin and had frequent breakthrough seizures. The only drawback is that I frequently feel drowsy within 30 minutes of taking my meds; however, it beats having seizures!

I am a 2 month pregnant woman who suddenly had a rare type of stroke and then started to have seizures. I started using 400mg dilantin daily but because of the keflex antibiotic, it did nothing for me. I con't to have seizures and even a convulsive seizure. i'm now being weened off of dilantin and have been taking 1500mg keppra dailyand have been seizure free, but the mood swings, tiredness and bursts of anger are aggravating. Might be from the pregnancy though. I send my prayers to you all and wish you all all the best as I do myself. Thank youRead More Read Less

Seizures from brain tumor. Removed, but auras/seizures continued. On various meds never controlled. Recently taken off of dilantin which I had been on for 20 years. Now on Keppra 500 twice a day, Gabitril and Lamictal. No seizures unless I'm late taking meds, but occasional auras. Side effects awful and have not improved. Cognative problems.Dizziness and loss of concentration. Loss of appetite, extreme fatigue. No desire to do anything which could be depression with the combination of anti-seizure medications. Sleepy/tired all the time. No problem with anger. Read More Read Less

Severe migraines were controlled by using Keppra twice a day. However, my migraines remain active. Keppra is preventative. Other medicines for migraine work great when I get the migraine. But, there is improvement in controlling/lessening the number of migraines.

I have an in-operable brain tumor, have had full blown radiation to the head and a full year of Temodar, and have to be on Keppra to maitain not seisuring again. I take 5000mgs a day. Makes me very lethargic most of the time. I see someone else said B6 might help? Also wondering if anyone elses Doctors have ever said they could reduce the amount they take, down the road of course. When I asked my Doctor about it, he said that there is dead matter in the brain from treatments, however the body will eventually absorb. Unfortunately, this can take years according to him. Has anybody out there been able to reduce the amount of Keppra you take? I did read you can't just stop taking it but can you ween yourself down a little, I'm just looking to have a little more energy back down the road. I know getting off kilter can really throw you. I just had another medical procedure done and could not stay exactly on schedule(off by approx. 3 hours} plus what ever drug they gave me for the procedure really messed me up for a couple days. I had a couple seizure like symptoms, like I was going to go into one, wow haven't felt like that for awhile. So any words of wisdom I would appreciate? Oh ya, my diagnosis was an inoperable Oligoastrocytoma. Operating would cause brain damage. I did have an initial Biopsy. Thank you, Dazed & Confused Read More Read Less

I was diagnosed with Epilepsy in July 07 and Keppra started working immediately. I have had a few break thru seizures, but my dosage was increased and I've been seizure free for over a month now. The only real side effects that I've had were severe mood swings and being tired ALL the time. In the beginning, I also felt a little disoriented, but it passed after the first 4-6 weeks. It has also lowered my blood pressure. This medication has been a blessing to me so far. My only caution is be careful if you're prescribed certain types of Antibiotics. I had a severe reaction last month and had a convulsive seizure. It's not very common, but just my luck;-) Read More Read Less

I have had epilepsy for 50+ years. I wasn't diagnosed until I was 16, by then I was having Gran Mal siezures and if doctors knew more when I was 10 I probably would have been kept at Petite Mal....For Years I took Dilantin and Tegretol and a couple others I can not recall, then found neurontin, but the weight gain was realy bad so I was put on Depakote and Tegretol, then just Depakote and Imitrix(migraines)and then my Neurologist offered the possibility of 1 medication, Keppra, I have been on it for 6+ years and have few if any side effects compared to the others, I also stay hydrated and eat properly, no visits to MacDonalds or the other fast food joints and listen to my neurologist. Had no idea why I started having seizures a few years ago, but after being on Dilantin (which made the world feel about 5 mph) prescribed by my regular doc, I saw a neurologist who switched me to Keppra. Whatever you do, do not miss doses - I had a few whoppers in an hour back in September after having run out of it and waiting for my paycheck. The stuff is ridiculously expensive, but I think UCB's patent should be expiring fairly soon, so if you don't have a Rx formulary benefit/insurance, generic levetiracetam will hopefully be available stateside soon. It works, wonderfully, even. Read More Read Less
