I have not experienced any further symptoms of AF since starting Tikosyn. What I have experienced is difficulty getting certain other medical procedures completed because of the medication interaction problems. Dental procedures requiring local anesthetics are not possible since I can not use any of the "cains". Treatments for skin problems that might have steroids in them can not be used as st...

My second heart attack left me in cronic AFIB. Cardioversion didn't work. I decided to try Tikosyn as the AFIB was really taking all my energy and stamina away. In the hospital I was given my first dose at 10:00 in the morning and at 08:00 that evening I converted to normal sinus rhythm and have now been there for two years. No side effects. Tikosyn has worked very well for me.

I have Afib and just switched to this. Spent an additional 3 days in the hospital being monitored. So far, I have been in Afib 3 times in the last 4 days. Seems to not be working. Suggestions??

Was switched from amioderone to tikosyn and have been feeling very, very fatigued and anxious. Amioderone messed up my thyroid and lungs, hoping as more time goes by the amiordorone will get out of system and I will feel better. It can take up to 130 days for it to all get out of your system. No afib so far been 2 1/2 weeks

I was prescribed tikosyn for V-tach after 2 ablations that didn't work and nasty side effects from metropolol. on 500 mcg 2x daily. Side effects are the same (trouble sleeping, no energy, etc) it seemed to work okay at first but currently having v-tach episodes just as severe and as often as b4 being diagnosed. next step is likely icd implant. probably shoulda just done that from the start but cardiologist was against it. also have a 50% blockage in main artery and now an enlarged heart. not sure whether its also because of the vtach or not. i really empathize with the other patients on this so called "wonder" drug!Read More Read Less

In Feb. 2012, I went into A Fib and NSVT & had an ablation done. During the ablation I had a stroke and a heart attack due to the blood that had backed up in the heart during the A Fib in the preceding days (this happened even though I was on heparin injections.) They had to put in a stent. I had a defibrillator and pacemaker implanted 4 days later. I was put on various medications including Metropolol and Norpace. I still had severe episodes of A Fib and had my defibrillator go off 30 times in one day. They have since adjusted the settings on my defibrillator so it won't happen again. Three weeks later, the medications were no longer controlling the A Fib and I had to be cardioverted. Five weeks after that I had another episode and they decided to take me off the Norpace and put me on Tikosyn, so I had to stay in the hospital so they could do EKG's after each dose for several days. While I was in the hospital, I started having severe chest pain and they did an angiogram and found that my bare metal stent had scarring and was closed off. They had to implant 2 additional stents. I have been on the Tikosyn since July and am so thankful that it is working as well as it is. I have had a slight increase in my QT interval, but they continue to monitor me to make sure I don't develop the dangerous changes to the heart that can happen with Tikosyn. I still have A Fib occasionally, but I went from having episodes that lasted for days to episodes that are anywhere from 30 seconds to 15 minutes and they go away on their own eventually. A Fib is a horrible issue and I pray mine stays under control with medication because I am terrified at the thought of doing another ablation. Because of the stroke affecting my speech, I woke up and couldn't say anything more than "Tt...t...t..." when they asked me my name and I was aware that I wasn't saying the right thing. It was scary! Just watch for the QT interval changes and be very careful w/ what you eat and any medications you takeRead More Read Less

Medication works great for AF, except it acts like a diuretic. Had open heart surgery 20 yrs. ago. Legs now have very little to no water. Always had water in leg that was used for operation. Haven't seen anything about this side effect!! Has anybody had this problem??

I've had afib for over 13 years and it has gotten progressively worse. I've had an ablation procedure for Atrial Flutter which worked, followed by two ablations to try to clear the Afib, with no luck. Finally, I agreed to try Tikosyn (my Dr. had recommended in lieu of the last abalation I had, but I was too scared to try it... I thought it was too contraversial and risky. But now I'm kicking myself for not trying it sooner. I've been on it since May 31st and it is now August 21st(3 months later) and my afib has all be disappeared. The fisrt month I went back into afib every couple of weeks, but just for an hour or two. Second month, just once. And third month I've not experienced any afib. I'm a believer and would highly recommend trying this medication. If you can tolerate it (an about 75% of the population can), then it could change your life. I'm hoping that as time goes on, by Dr. will feel comfortable removing me from some of the other drugs I'm on (Pradaxa and Metropolol), but right now, things are well under control: No Afib and low heart-rate. Persistent or permanent aFibber for 2-5 years until diagnosed! First ECV ineffective (quack cardiologist did not know what he was doing). Changed to top rated cardio/EP in top rated hospital. My left atrium had enlarged and was not candidate for ablation. Plan is to take Tikosyn for as long as it takes for my LA to shrink to normal; then ablation(s) as required and Tikosyn as required. Three days in hospital for Tik uptake and required ECV to put me into NSR. Have been in NSR since Dec 2011 99.99% or have simply had skipped beats when my Potassium has gone low. Drink lots of Low Sodium V8 and supplement 2g Potassium daily. Avoid caffeine, MSG, salt, etc. and feel pretty good since December but noticing side effects as of late (mild nausea in mornings, erratic sleep, anxiety, etc.). Overall am a happy camper and hope Tik keeps working for me. It is not for everyone but if you tolerate it and any side effects it is A1. Watch for drug interactions and for supply shortages! Take exactly EXACTLY as directed (I have an alarm set for 10AM and 10PM). Avoid trigger foods. Read More Read Less

Been on Tikosyn 26+ months with one AF after 19 months (had cardioversion and resumed Tikosyn). No noticeable side affects but am borderline with long QT. WARNING!! YOU must check for interactions with any other prescribed drugs: I had two drugs separately prescribed by a GP and then a Cardiologist that could both have resulted in death even though they were advised in writing and discussed with both doctors and the pharmacists! Check every prescribed drug yourself for interactions!!!! Trust no one. Wonder drug for me.Read More Read Less

Have tried other drugs that didnt work also. 3 days in hospital at 500 mg twice a day gave me minor relief but not enough to speak about. Stayed that way for 6 months and finally gave up on it. At least there were no side effects. Moving on to other measures.

After taking Rythmol for 6 years, it just quit working and I had Atrial tacycardia and Atrial fib and felt really bad for about 5 months until I found a Dr. that prescribed Tikosyn. I have been on it for about 2 1/2 months and it's been wonderful. I still have to watch my caffeine and not get overtired.

I am very pleased with Tikosyn at 500mcg. I have had no side affects, more energy and no AF reacurrence. A little expensive but well worth it. Been taking Tikosyn for 9 months and it has changed my life.
