Bipolar - I took this med for one year with no blood testing. I started experiencing mixed symptoms and asked my doctor if my dosage might need to be adjusted. She then decided that my oxcarbazepine level should be checked along with my sodium. I was not even in the therapeutic range, so my dosage was increased. My sodium was only slightly low. A few weeks later my levels were checked again. ...

Worked well, but had to keep increasing dosage often. Gained weight quickly. 15 lbs in 1 year. I was just weaned off and put on Topamax. I lost 13 lbs of water weight in 3 weeks from the trileptal. Trileptal makes you retain water. It is a side effect.

I have been on this medication for 6 years after being on Dilantin and Tegretol. I am pleased with the treatment (the lack of seizures); however, my insurance only pays for the generic and, depending on the manufacturer, my seizure occurance can increase. I have tried to return to taking the name brand, but fighting the insurance company is difficult at best.

I have been taking Trileptal for 5 years now to avoid seizures. I take one pill at night and it helps me sleep and my morning dose I take before going to the gym and that has helped me avoid the drowsiness from the side effects (only side effect I have). I've had two healthy babies while taking this drug, approved by my doctors as well as my babies doctors and also brestfeed one of them for three months with no harm to him. I am more than happy with Trileptal!

This medication works for me however, I seem to have a burning in my lips and all my teeth hurt. Has anyone else experienced this with this drug?

I have been on Trileptal for 7 years now. The only side effect is drowsiness. I take it at bedtime and it helps me sleep. They have added other drugs over the years, but they all have had bad side effects. I will stay on Trileptal as long as I can. Works well for me.

I have been taking Trileptal for about eight years now. I find the tablets easy to take. The only problems I've had with this medication is sometimes after I take them I feel slightly dizzy. I was told by my doctor that is normal. Seizures are under control by the number of tablets prescribed by your doctor so take them on time.

After going to multiple doctors, taking at least 15 different prescriptions, and after several hospitalizations due to severe neuropathic pain I was put on Trileptal. Almost immediately the burning, stabbing pain subsided. Other than having to increase my dosage every few years I have had very few problems while on Trileptal. I could not be luckier or happier. I think the worst side effect for me has been it's effect on the pill. I have to take a very high dosage which has it's own issues but it's been totally worth it.Read More Read Less

Was prescribed this for trigeminal neuralgia. I have developed non-diabetic hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). My skin burns, I have nausea, confusion, fatigue and headaches. Gradually getting off this medicine ASAP.

Seizure Disorder, replaced Tegritol with this. It's better, but with an unexpected side effect for me. I noticed feeling tense, and it took sometime to adjust to. I take a lower-end dosage and very much noticed the frequent tense feeling- although my blood pressure is low. Overall, it is better than tegitol, I've had none of the vision issues or weird withdrawl issues I had when taking tegritol.

I was treated to minor cyclical mood disorder. After several days of full 600 mg dose I was hospitalized with sodium deficiency, requiring a full day of IV replacement. The headache and vomiting which caused me to head for the hospital was the worst in my 68 year life. This drug is not for me.

Trileptal has been a very good drug for me. It does interact with other drugs and so requires that I check out every other drug I may take (including over the counter meds) with my neurologist.

I have been on trileptal for about 5 years. My morning headaches went away and it made me feel great. Until two days ago, I had a seizure at nite. I feel that it happens when my deep sleep is interrupted (which it was), however the hospital diagnosed me with having a UTI-which i didnt have any symptoms of, and the doctor said that this infection decreased the effectiveness of my seizure medication. Well, until i am off the antibiotics, i will be tested again to check my levels and we will go from there. I really dont want to take additional meds. I am happy with my trileptal.Read More Read Less

Trileptal has offered the best control over my seizure disorder of all the anti-convulsants that I have tried. I suffer from complex-partial Temporal Lobe Epilepsy seizures. Mostly they manifest themselves in the form of intense deja-vu with dizziness, confusion, and spitting(my oral response.) I was on dilantin for three years with only limited control. Tried Lamictal, but had a bad reaction to it (rash.) I have now been on Trileptal for almost three years with excellent success. I take 1800mg in two 900mg doses - morning and night. I still have the occasional breakthrough seizure episode, normally in my sleep. Although I am not completely seizure free, Trileptal has given me vastly superior control over the seizure events than I previously had and any breakthrough seizures are significantly less severe. My doctor has recently placed me on Klonopin in a single night time dose to try to eliminate my noctournal breakthrough events. Otherwise, I would say that things are better now than they have been in years. To those that are experiencing side effects, try to stay with it if you can. Once your body adapts to the medication most people tolerate it fairly well, and the results are very promising.Read More Read Less

Been on the drug for 8 yrs for nerve pain. Doctor started with very low doses and increased 150 per day each week until the side effects started and then backed down 150. Found that after 3 months was able to increase another 150 or so and still effective. Have tried to get off multiple times but the nerve pain comes back so must be doing something. Best wishes for all.

My 12 year old son was taking trileptal for several years for epilepsy. Recently we took him off of it and he only takes epival. He is non-verbal so we don't know how he felt while taking trileptal but since NOT taking it he no longer has melt-downs (hitting his head out of frustration) and he no longer trembles constantly.
