Bipolar - I took this med for one year with no blood testing. I started experiencing mixed symptoms and asked my doctor if my dosage might need to be adjusted. She then decided that my oxcarbazepine level should be checked along with my sodium. I was not even in the therapeutic range, so my dosage was increased. My sodium was only slightly low. A few weeks later my levels were checked again. ...

I have been on the drug 8 months and have had no seizures. There were many side effects at first. The ones that remain are: fewer bowl movements/constipation..I now eat vegitation for 3/4 of my days food. Loss of words and just all around a slower mind. drowsy or fuzzy along with mouth and tongue numbness for an hour or two after taking it.

I take Trileptal for bipolar disorder and it has helped save my (and others') life. Although it makes me "high" feeling for a bit, I am able to go about my day. I have been taking it for almost 5 years now.

I have bipolar disorder and this medication was prescribed to me in order to stabilize my moods...I have not gotten the results I wanted. I get dizzy and extremely nauseous not to mention the moods are not stabilized at all.

My daughter has Asperger's Disorder; she exhibits some symptoms of OCD and Bipolar Disorder, as well as mood instability and is not able to sleep at night. She has been on this medication for 2 months, and no improvement at all. The doctor tried this as a last resort before trying something such as Lithium. This is known as a third line drug, or one that is known to not work very well, but can be tried anyway.

My dr. prescr. this med. to help me sleep. It has caused nausea/vomiting, headache and stomach pain. I'm stopping it slowly. I never got a good night sleep from it (maybe 4 hrs.) Would not recommend it.

I've been taking for partial seizures for 5 years. Overall 99.9% Control. Does cause depression, but Zoloft manages it quite well. Began treatment twenty years ago with Dialantin with very little help. Move to Tegretol after three months, and had almost 100% control for almost fifteen years. Within a 3 month period Tegretol stopprd working. Tried Kepra and Topomax with some success. Switched to Trileptal, 300mg twice a day, and I call it my life saver. It did take about a month for my body to adjust to. I also drink plenty of Gatorade when I perspire to maintain sodium. Read More Read Less

I was taking this medication for Bipolar Disorder, and not only did it not help me, it made my manic episodes more pronounced, and my depression worse. Whoever decided that this medication can be used to treat bipolar disorder is a hack, and should have his PHD revoked.

I only took Trileptal for 2 1/2 years before my seizures naturally subsided. Aside from the initial drowsiness of my body getting used to it in the beginning, it prevented seizures entirely for me, when taken properly. I put the ease of use a little low, only bc I'm not a huge fan of taking medication on a regular basis, so that was my own fault. Otherwise, if you can't swallow pills very well, I'd recommend coming up with an alternative that makes it easier for you, bc when these things get stuck in your throat (or eve just resting in your mouth) it's...well, it's pretty awful. Chalky, burns...ick...but it is effective in treating seizures. I was 16 when I started taking it, I'm 24 now and haven't had any seizures since I was 17. My last seizure was my own fault, because I missed a few doses in a row...not a smart idea, by the way.Read More Read Less

I've been taking this for about five years or so. I've had no seizures, no auras, no problems or side effects at all. I hope I can stay on this forever and thank God and my doctor I'm on it and seizure free. (Praying for all my seizure brothers and sisters daily...I feel like we're all one big family)
