Bipolar - I took this med for one year with no blood testing. I started experiencing mixed symptoms and asked my doctor if my dosage might need to be adjusted. She then decided that my oxcarbazepine level should be checked along with my sodium. I was not even in the therapeutic range, so my dosage was increased. My sodium was only slightly low. A few weeks later my levels were checked again. ...

I was taking Keppra and still having seizures. My doctor had added Trileptal and we decreased the Keppra a little. I haven't had a seizure since. I had noticed that I noticed that I get irritated very easy I'm not sure if it is the Trileptal or the Keppra. I am was always a person to make people happy and to have fun with and now I don't really care to be around people and get aggravated easy since I started taking seizure medications.

The only side effect that I have experienced is excessive sweating. The medication is working for by bipolar disorder unlike any other medication that I have taken. I will take the sweating verses trying another medication that I'm not sure will work like this one.

I was first put on Trileptal about five years ago when I was 15 for panick attacks and insomnia. At first it made me feel a little high and I have a hard time concentrating and remembering things. I was on 6oomg a day and it helped greatly. I slept more and had less panick attacks. When I was 17 I quit cold turkey and had terrible withdrawls.I had the worst attacks ever almost every single night. I was put back on it and only took 300mg. At first I would have severe panick attacks a couple hours after taking the medication but I just started taking it right before I fell asleep to keep this from happening.Things leveled back out but I tried to get back off of it the beginning of this year (this time with the help of a doctor). Things were fine for the first three months of me being off of it but in May of this year I started have the worst panick attacks, along with just feeling anxious all day every day. I am no longer able to functoin properly. I am constantly nervous and feel alone and helpless all the time. I started back on Trileptal 7 weeks ago and now I am just waiting to get my life back. A good note is that I have never experienced the negative side effects with this medication like I have others.Read More Read Less

Some of the tests have came back that the level is 0 or 1 and I have never missed a dose. Should the blood draw be sent to lab in a certain vile?

My daughter has been on this drug and Depakote for 6 years now. Although no anti-seizure medication will take all her seizures away, this has been more effective than any other seizure meds she has been on in the past. We crush these pills for her because she cannot chew. So they can be crushed. The combo of meds works ok, but every year we seem to be increasing her dose of this drug. Once this one is maxed out, not sure what is next. Maybe VNS system.

Only learned later that Tegretol and Trileptal were in the same family only that Trileptal is "new and improved" version; usually those who were intolerant to Tegretol can handle Trileptal. Not so with me, it was pure nightmare where seizures increased; the pressure in my head was so great that it felt as if someone had put a bomb in there and it had exploded (figurative and illustrative example), developed seizures that I didn't even have before. Trileptal was quickly discontinued as soon as those side effects began to go out of control almost "instantly". It was quite revealing on the EEG that this med was not working. Had been on it for just barely a little over a month and then some weeks.Read More Read Less

I have been on trileptal for over 5 years for bipolar 2. It has helped me with my mood swings and has made me much calmer. The side effects I get are not being able to sleep, bruising, can't concentrate, tired, thirsty, trouble breathing, memory loss. Trileptal has helped me, my marriage and to have a better life. Just recently I had a blood test done and it showed I have low sodium (127). The doctors want to take me off trileptal and I don't want to go off because it has helped me so much. By reading all these other reviews, it has helped me to make a decision. Thank you to all that write in to let us know there concerns with trileptal. Read More Read Less

I have just recently been prescribed the generic Trileptal for treatment of Bipolar Disorder. After less than positive results with other meds, I am experiencing side effects, however, some positive results seem possible. Thanks for the reviews regarding sodium it seems to help lessen the nausea side effect. I will send a more detailed review after a few weeks on this med should the side effects subside.

I was prescribed Trileptal for complex partial seizures. I've only been on it for about a month but it seems to help the seizures and their side effects caused by my epilepsy. I've had abdominal pain/indigestion pretty frequently but not unbearable. Hopefully it continues to work with minimal side effects; it's definitely better than the head pain and seizures.

I take this for complex partial seizures. It is 100 percent effective with a few side effects. Some skin irritation, severe with excesssive physical activity. Hives that are itchy and red will appear. Benadryl is effective to fight this. Ocassions problems with speech, reduced by talking slower. Some minor vision (soft focus) problems from time to time.

Our son was first put on topomax at the age of 7 for his siezures. It worked for about a year and then he began to have them more severly and frequently. The doctor just kept uping his dosage. After some heart breaking experiences with us watching our son get worse instead of better, the neurologist finally decided to try trileptol on our son and he has been seizure free for over 5 months. I believe the medication has helped alot and we also thank our Lord everyday for letting our son have some normalacy back. For parents suffering like us, give this medication a try. It works. Thank God!Read More Read Less

I took this med for bipolar. It made me so dizzy that I couldn't stand up, it made me vomit repeatedly, and I ended up having a seizure in my sleep, and I have never had a seizure before in my life. I couldn't think clearly, and I forgot things I was saying mid-sentence. I found that I was forgetting very common things, such as words, places, and events. I was NOT happy with this medication.

My daughter has been taking Trileptal to manage her epilepsy for almost 3 years now. We have had great success with it. She took Tegretol before, but Trileptal is much safer (not as many side effects) and it lasts longer to make sure she is fine during the school day. Although you won't find it in all literature, you should be cautious in using Tylenol (acetaminophen) while taking Trileptal, because it increases the liver toxicity of Trileptal. She recently had a dosage adjustment, because she grew and her level dropped way below therapeutic range, so she began having seizures again. I suggest that any parent with a child on medication advocate for level testing when they notice a change in their child. The dosage adjustment was VERY necessary, but the doctors hadn't immediately considered it until I requested they test her levels. Read More Read Less
