Bipolar - I took this med for one year with no blood testing. I started experiencing mixed symptoms and asked my doctor if my dosage might need to be adjusted. She then decided that my oxcarbazepine level should be checked along with my sodium. I was not even in the therapeutic range, so my dosage was increased. My sodium was only slightly low. A few weeks later my levels were checked again. ...

I am taking the med for extreme nerve pain resulting from traumatic head injury a year ago. I am experiencing severe head pain and am concerned the trileptal is contributing to the issue, rather than helping.

I have partial seizures and have been taking this for 5 years and have been seizure free which I'm very thankful for BUT I have lots of side effects. I've gained weight, have back acne, sometimes get a rash from the sun, forget everything and have a hard time forming sentences. I'm also super tired all the time. Because I've been seizure free for so long I've been afraid to change meds but I'm finally going to try something different because the side effects are too much.

This is a very early review, but my results have been so special I wanted to share my first impressions: I suffer from severe anxiety and have for decades. Sleep quality as tested four times with polysomnogram was terrible. I finally started taking Ambien a few months ago and it really di help, but I'm seeing a pain mgt. doc now for a different problem and he knows how important good quality sleep is for dealing with pain. He doesn't like what Ambien does "to my patients' thinking" so switched me to 300mgs Trileptal at night. I have only taken five doses and after the just the fourth night I found my anxiety levels to be lower than they have been in five years! (I had a life-changing sleep disturbance on July 17, 2007...sleep hasn't been the same since). I am so pleased, and no side effects when I wake up. Needless to say, five doses is not enough to convince me, but I will write a follow-up comment in a few months. Also, my appetite is dramatically reduced...so pleased, I've gained 80 pounds in the last ten years...anxiety eating. Uncontrollable!Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this med as yet another attempt to prevent my chronic migraines of 8+years. I have unfortunately had increased headaches, nausea, my head swims, I feel bloated, my lips feel numb, I feel sexually aroused at inappropriate times, just not a good drug for me and I am calling the dr tomorrow to see if I can discontinue taking it!

I had taken this as one of my first drugs for epilepsy, but it had been while bacl. It did prevent the seizures. However my face broke out with a red rash. It seemed like back acne. I went to a dermatologist and found that is wasnt normal; I had to get Rx meds for the break out. This next side effect is hard to explain, but is mild. Sometime I would be sitting (like ON a couch) then I would suddenly feel like I was literlly IN the couch.

I take this drug for bipolar disorder and because I had brain surgery in 2005 for anuerysms. It is expected that I may experience seizures, but I never did. Now, I cut my dose in half because my liver is showing toxicity by raised levels. Is this to be expected, the elevated liver panels while taking this med?

I was diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia by my neurologist 3 months ago. I was suffering with pain so great on the left side of my face that I actually wanted to "remove" the left side of my face (to put it nicely). I am prescribed 2 300mg pills twice a day. It is not enough to make me functional and my neurologist will not listen to me. I have gained 30 pounds even though I barely eat. My pain is down to where I don't have suicidal thoughts, but I need clonazepam and an opiate to be fully able to function. Unfortunately, I lost the doctor that was prescribing these medications to me and the neurologist does not believe in them. I am a total mess. Withdrawals from clonazepam have me crying at the drop of a hat. I need help.Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this for Bipolar disorder and it has changed my life (along with my other meds...Adderall for ADD, Zoloft for OCD, and Seroquel for psychosis). I finally feel calm and in control of my moods and I am able to think now before I choose to react. It's made a world of difference for myself and my family. The only side effects I have noticed is increased dry mouth (Adderall contributes to this also) and my pupils are enormous as if I were on acid or something. But considering the advantages I make do and remember to carry my scripts with me when driving in case I get pulled over. Not a bad trade off at all. I absolutely love this drug and I'm grateful it's working for me.Read More Read Less
