Bipolar - I took this med for one year with no blood testing. I started experiencing mixed symptoms and asked my doctor if my dosage might need to be adjusted. She then decided that my oxcarbazepine level should be checked along with my sodium. I was not even in the therapeutic range, so my dosage was increased. My sodium was only slightly low. A few weeks later my levels were checked again. ...

I have been on this since last Nov and finally able to trust. I will be taken off this and weened onto something else later because of a stomach drug that I have to take that coats my stomach and this med may not work. So, I have to take it 2 hours prior from that med. I thought this med was causing me problems but it wasn't it was my acid re flux disease. I find this med to be very helpful now and very safe to take.

i have been using this one for almost 2 months.....it gave me severe headaches and nausea/vomiting for the first two weeks but it is better now. Altho stomach cramps have started since the other effects have subsided. Im not real happy with this med but i understand it us used for mood stabilization and i really needed help. it has helped the crying and overwhelming sadness dissipate! so i guess it worked but i am not happy with side effects!

i took trileptal for bipolar disorder, and experienced few transient side effects. While it all but cut out mania, i found myself perpetually depressed in a monotonous, unchanging way. If you struggle particularly with depressive swings, SEEK ANOTHER TREATMENT. I was a (typically) energetic and social person, but this medicine stole my personality for 6 months. I'm relieved to be rid of it. Adding an antidepressant (SSRI) did not help this depressant effect.

I am bipolar 2 and am on this med because the lithium gave me dry mouth. I do feel some symptoms or side effects after using it for several where as the lithium I did not so I may have to change back? I'm thinking about it? I find myself sometimes a little drowse and needing a nap in the afternoon for which my dr says that is ok so, then I may as well keep giving it a try instead of having severe dry mouth and wt gain like I did with the lithium. mornings are hard to wake up to, i've never been a morning person anyways and night time dose I'm asleep in about 1 1/2 after taking my dose. I also take a antidepressant in the a.m. too. I am a smoker so that causes dry mouth also. A walk everyday helps tremendously about 50 min.Read More Read Less

This is my 2nd review first I thought it caused me constipation but it does not went to my psychiatrist and it does not cause constipation. I went to a gastrologist and there is the problem. Just never miss a does at that time fill your pill bos and as soon as you get it filled make sure it is in the pill box or you will feel side affects all day. I had vivid dreams, and loss of sleep with some ups and downs for the day!! Make sure you take it right.

I was prescribed this for Bi-polar and it made me sick. I couldn't take it because it made me throw up. I have just been re-prescribed it and I'm not going to take it!

I have been taking this drug for bipolar disorder for less than 3 months. While it seems to help with mood stabilization (although I feel I need a much higher dose for ultimate results) the side effects have been severe. I have migranes that do not respond to anything and abdominal cramps, pain and bowel changes for the 1st week and any increase in dose. Other than that I'm pretty satisfied.

My Doc gave me this med as a mood stabilizer. I am actually a neurology RN so I knew they'd been doing that for years. It does cause drowsiness, of course. But there is one other side effect I did not see coming--intense sugar cravings, never had them before. But it's been almost a year now, and the med is doing exactly what I needed it to do. The sugar thing and the drowsiness are manageable.

I was forced to take this drug as an adolescent when I did not need or want to take it. I have always been skinny, and they claim this drug is "weight-neutral", but I was hungry all the time and I gained weight very quickly. It also made me feel drunk/high about 30 min-an hour after taking it. Very strange. It also gave me acne on my neck and arms. The doctor switched me to Lamictal which was just as bad.

My son was prescribed this medication. He is 12 Years old and has autism, ODD, ADHD and is bi-polar. We tried this medication to see if it helped curve his impulse rage moments, and i didnt notice any change whatsoever. The pill was easy to take, but just didnt notice any change in behavior.

I have Bipolar Disorder - I was switched from Lithium to Trileptal after 10 years... the Lithium began damaging my kidneys. I was nervous about trying something new, but have found Trileptal very helpful (with very few side effects). For anyone who has been on Lithium they will know what I mean when I say I don't have to worry about "my levels" changing unexpectedly... which I have found very reassuring.

Doc decided to switch 8yr daughter from Keppra to liquid Trileptal. 1st week she stayed with Keppra and added 5ml of this. Started Sept (Saturday) to take 10ml of this and lowered Keppra to only 5ml. Thought I saw something on her legs Saturday. But, by Sunday am "oh my gosh! she has huge area on both legs with hives! I was not told this hasn't been approved FDA for Kids. And both the Neuro and now the ER doc who said go back to Keppra are like it is safe, safe med for the seizures. I am beginning to think I agree with the other parents and our PMD, that maybe the seizures are less bothersome than these crazy meds, at least she may have a liver and her eyesight (which is only one eye pretty much!!!) left if we don't take this. I am sure glad that we followed our insticts and immediately called to ask why she would be covered in a rash!!!!!! She is also blinking her eyes, rubbing them and acting like her eyesight is a problem. She is also congested and her nose is running. She is not sick, no fever, was just seen in ER Saturday! It is this medicine!!!! Sorry, but it is not for kids!!!! Read More Read Less
