Bipolar - I took this med for one year with no blood testing. I started experiencing mixed symptoms and asked my doctor if my dosage might need to be adjusted. She then decided that my oxcarbazepine level should be checked along with my sodium. I was not even in the therapeutic range, so my dosage was increased. My sodium was only slightly low. A few weeks later my levels were checked again. ...

I have bipolar, and this is seriously the only med I've been on that hasn't had horrible side effects, and was also effective. I get very irritable/angry when manic, and very depressed during my lows, and without this drug I'm a mess. Plus I love that they have it in generic form. Only noticed minor fatigue when I first started it, and some acne when increasing the dose. Not a big deal though.

I started taking Trilepital and switched me to the generic brand(Oxcarbazepine) and it has seemed to be more ineffective.

Treated for bipolar for over 7 yrs. with Trileptal (now the generic). Definetly helps with mood swings and anger response to everything. If I had side effects they went away. Maybe slightly dry mouth. Dosage: 450-600mg at night. 300mg when I wake up at 6 am to go to the bathrm. But then I sleep until 10 or 11am which is fine by me. If I had to get up earlier I would divide the daily dose to 150mg twice during the day. I go to the gym to control weight and help with mood/anger. So I would say it has been 90% helpful for my bipolar symptoms. I am 58 and remember the days when I didn't have this option.Read More Read Less

Recently Bipolar: On medication for 2 months. Asking Dr. for other options. Major problems with side effects. I have had dry mouth the whole time, so bad that I have given myself water intoxication twice. My knees have become sore, almost to the point of not being able to walk. I have muscle and bone sensitivity and fatigue. The worst side effect has been sleepless nights. Never in my life have I had problems sleeping, now I cannot make it through the night without taking a sleep aid. Without sleep my body and mind quickly detiereorated. The medication has also given me tremors. I am a professor of art at a major university, and an exhibiting artist. The tremors have made drawing difficult if not impossible. If this medication is working for you, stay on it! Side effects are frightening and exhausting, but not experienced by the majority. Bipolar II has taken a toll on my life but I would rather attempt to self-monitor my behavior and thoughts than keep living this way. Read More Read Less

I have been taking this med 4 years for mood stablelization. It works very well. I might be having trouble with the generic, aka anxitey and depresion although that may be due to stress in my life.

My 3 year old daughter was slowly put on this medication, slowly building up to 2.5 ml 2X's per day. She began to vomit and have very watery stools. Even after 4 days of stopping the meds (per her child psch) She still vomits one time per day and still has watery stools. Terrible

Was put on the Trileptal for mood swings about a month ago and noticed a difference almost immediately that I seemed to be more calm and slower to anger, but has anyone else gained any significant weight on this? I have gained 14 lbs. over the last 2 1/2 weeks and Im not liking that. I also have started to have one eye twitch and spasm all day long. Does anyone else have that side effect too?

I have been on Trileptal for over 2 years for Anxeity. I currently take 1350mg at night and 150 durring the day. I had been taking all of it during the day but I just ended up feeling constantly drunk. In general I have felt less anxious/manic, but latley I feel constantly stressed and scared. And the side effects are not good either. I sleep constantly (which makes being a grad student kind of hard) and if I miss a day or two occaisonally I can't function with all of the crazy physical symptoms-my tongue, hands and feet feel constantly numb, and my vision is blurry. I am even more tired and just have a general foggy feeling. I feel like it isn't working that great anymore at all.Read More Read Less

I have an Malignant Astrocytoma in the right frontal lobe of my brain. Malignant due to its location. Not operable; unable to benefit from Kemo; not able to benefit from Radiation. Happy about the last two as it has removed a lot of decision making. Trileptal & it's generic form oxy...has been a true lifesaver. I've been on it for 8 YEARS, now. At first, some side effects. They soon lessened. Hang in there if you can. Dilantin almost killed me. Blood close to oozing out of my skin; uncontrollable itching top of scalp down to toes. Hang in there if you can with the Oxy.../Trileptal, if you are able. I found the side effects to be minimal with time. But then again, I have a strong positive attitude & lots of determination. Let's face it, the alternative for me, is not good, I was given a death sentence 8 years ago. Like many of you I know it's hard....but then again, I'm not up against what some of YOU are. My heart goes out to the Bipolars...my Dad fought that. It was difficult. Wish he could have had Oxy...or Trilep.. available to him at the time, but it was too new.Read More Read Less

Used to treat Bipolar Disorder. Have been on it for a week and have severe mood swings, sleeplessness, and severe headaches. I plan on calling my Dr. tomorrow to be taken off this medication. Glad that it works for some people, but definatley not the medicine for me. Am enjoying the weight loss though, that was caused by previous meds.

i have been on oxcarbazapine for a few weeks, and i definitely feel a difference in my mood and behavior. aside from blurry vision while now comes and goes, i also experienced slight incoherence during regular activities. these behaviors have gone away already--as my family and coworkers have assessed. overall, in conjunction with other mood stabilizers, i love the relaxed feeling i am in on a more regular basis.

My daughter is 6 years old and have only been taking this for 3 days for mood swings/bipolar. The first day (actually, first dose), I noticed a change in her behavior. I was soo happy!! I thought, WOW, this is great for her! SO FAR....SO GOOD !!
