Bipolar - I took this med for one year with no blood testing. I started experiencing mixed symptoms and asked my doctor if my dosage might need to be adjusted. She then decided that my oxcarbazepine level should be checked along with my sodium. I was not even in the therapeutic range, so my dosage was increased. My sodium was only slightly low. A few weeks later my levels were checked again. ...

I have just started taking triliptal and was taking lamictal for bipolar 1 disorder it is supposed to help with my mood swings, which it does. But in the mean time I have a severe headache, nightsweats, also really tired in the after noon, and body aches and walking sometimes hurt. I am supposed to be taking another medication to counteract the symptoms. So we will see how that works.

It was hard for me to take medicine because I don't like to take medicines, I am a little phobic about them, but I do take Trileptal for manic anxiety and mild bipolar II disorders. I find that Trileptal helps me sleep and stay asleep. I do still wake up feeling really sad and I do have night sweats and night terrors even though I have been on Trileptal for over a year. I take 1200 mg at night plus Klonopin during the day, and My. Dr. just added Limictil. I find that Trileptal is far better than Effexor, Paxil, Seroqeul or Lexapro. Those made me feel like I was losing my mind. Trileptal has not had that effect on me.Read More Read Less

I take this medication to treat my bipolar/depression illness. The benefits I experienced taking this medication were mainly calmer thinking patterns and decreased mania. There were very little side effects. No allergic reactions have yet to occur and a minor fever is usually the worst case scenario. I have been taking this for about a year and a half and would recommend this medication as a great alternative/substitute to the medication called Depakote. It has many of the same effects of the drug, just without the weight gain and serious pounding of the liver. Read More Read Less

I have been taking this medication since I was 18 yrs old, when my seizures began. I am now 38 and I have been losing my hair for the last 15 years. I also deal with short term memory loss. This medication works and I don't know what to do about the hair loss and memory loss.

along with keppra in 1000 mg twice a day i take this at 900 mg twice a day. my episodes have gone to zero after a month. i have been treated for about six months now and i have finally been getting relief after getting episodes up to four times a night while sleeping. the side effects of tiredness and weight gain i have experienced after going to 900 mg from 600 mg. those are my fault and i will work on them. i have been working at my job since the episodes started and have been tested for everything known to mankind. i believe that epilepsy is diagnosed only 50 percent of the time. i am truly grateful for doctors and medicine. i am a 62 year old male and who knows where this came from.Read More Read Less

Was on Topamax for 10+ yrs for permanent nerve damage in my leg. Had to stop when I went on Medicare D Rx prgm. In the 'gap', ins would not cover the $2500 a month cost of the Topamax. Drs tried Neurotin & Trileptal...have had severe side effects..rash, itching, headaches, nausea, memory loss, weakness, no energy, dry mouth, dizziness and neither one touch the pain. Most severe was the triple swelling in my feet/legs. Almost went into hyponatremia (aka water intoxication). The drs say there isn't any other drug comparable to Topamax other than the Neurotin & Trileptal to ease my pain. My caregiver is doing everything possible to get the ins to cover the cost or find other outlet. Even tried Canada and the cost is still too high. If I could just get back on Topamax I could live like a real person again. When on Topamax, I had no pain associated with the nerve endings, no burning in my leg, no numbness, no tingling up and down my leg. I could walk normal without any pain. Topamax is the best that I have found, if I could just get back on it, I would be in heaven. I have been on trileptal for 4 months and it doesn't ease the pain and has too many side effects that cause more pain.Read More Read Less

I was on Trileptal for 2 years and still had seizures. I also gained 50 pounds. My doctor finally decided to change my medicine to Zonegran and I lost all my weight and best of all..... I have been seizure free for almost 7 years =).. That is a miracle! I just had a scan and he told me that I could go off my meds if I wanted to but I am afraid that I will have one while driving and that scares me! So I would rather stay on it!

I have an inoperable astrocytoma in my lower left temperal lobe. It makes me have absent seizures and a buzzing in my head that made me want to end my life. I have been on Trileptal for almost 5 years and love it since the day my neuro first prescribed it. It isn't the best on my seizures but it is the only med that has almost completely stopped the buzzing. It has given me a chance to live out my life with at least some quality. I feel for those of you with your own serious conditions and wish you the best.Read More Read Less

Triliptal gave me a condition called hyponatrimia, (aka water intoxication) which is very low sodium. I nearly died on my 40th birthday. I have read all comments in this review and see several other people have had similar lowered sodium experience. Lucky for me the brain damage I got from the hyponatrimia rewired my brain and shut the pain off that I was being treated for: trigeminal neuropathy. I would take this drug and get that sick again for the result I got, my sodium was 121). I got my life back, although it is a different me than I started with and it did super bad things for my short term memory -- for years after the big night there was no yesterday and no tomorrow, only today. Anyway, I married my doctor and we have a beautiful little girl. See, from crisis comes opportunity. Careful of the sodium levels. The dizziness people have reported may be a symptom. And yes, you can die from this side effect. Read More Read Less
