I have a genetic variant that elevates Lipoprotein (a) and currently the only treatment that will lower the level is by reducing LDL. Statins increase lipoprotein (a) so Nexlizet and various dosing of Nexletol used with daily Zetia will bring my LDL below 70. The negative effects are tendonosis and elevated BUN and uric acid levels—since I have documented atherosclerotic build up in my coronary ...

I can’t take statins- so I was excited that there was a new medication. I read about Nexletol in a magazine and asked my doctor if it might work for me. He agreed and wrote me a prescription with the warning that my insurance probably would not pay for it. My insurance did pay for a 3 month supply. I took it for 10 days when I had to quit as the side effects were unbearable. I was off it 2 weeks w...

He agreed and wrote me a prescription with the warning that my insurance probably would not pay for it. My insurance did pay for a 3 month supply. I took it for 10 days when I had to quit as the side effects were unbearable. I was off it 2 weeks when I started back up with it. 5 days later had to stop it again because of the bad side effects. I was so excited to have a medication that may help me. My cholesterol averages between 220-240 on Ezetimibe. I exercise daily, practice a low fat diet and am vegetarian. Hopefully this medication will help others in my situation without the side effects.Read More Read Less

While it definitely did help improve my cholesterol numbers, but the side effect of tendinitis specifically in my feet was intolerable. I decided to conduct an experiment and quit taking Nexlizet. After two weeks, the tendinitis I had been experiencing in my feet vanished. my plan is to continue not taking Nexlizet for another two weeks, then contact my doctor and share that experience.

After trying everything on the market to lower my cholesterol, and experiencing terrible side effects from statins, I read about Bempedoic Acid in the Harvard Medical brochure. I was already taking Zetia with no results. I asked my cardiologist about this new drug, Nexlizet, and he agreed to let me try it. In three months, my total cholesterol went from 255 to 168 and no side effects! It worked for me when everything else did not.

Statins increase lipoprotein (a) so Nexlizet and various dosing of Nexletol used with daily Zetia will bring my LDL below 70. The negative effects are tendonosis and elevated BUN and uric acid levels—since I have documented atherosclerotic build up in my coronary arteries and 1 stent, I chose to not take Nexlizet, but take Zetia everyday(not effective on its own) and Nexletol every other day(1/2 life 21 hours) to reduce the side effects, but keep my LDL just below 70– on Nexlizet my LDL was 46, but my lipoprotein (a) was still 225(high) and tendonosis was not a tolerable condition. I can not speak to other lipid conditions, but it is effective if it is taken as directed. I am also on Praulent, which also targets the liver and cholesterol.Read More Read Less
