I've been taking depakote for 9 months and it has some what helped my mood swings, but it has really improved my concentration and anxiety problems. Depakote combined with adequate nutrition and exercise is the ultimate treatment for my bipolar dis order.People need to realize that medication alone will not provide them the best results. The worst thing about the depakote for me, is occasionally I...

This makes you really not care at all. I mentioned to my Psych, MD that I would take a few extra any time I knew I was going to be under stress or in an irritating environment self medicating. He switched me to Latuda and I have been going down on this. I feel 10X more alive no more drooling no more numb emotions I actually feel like myself

If I could I would put no stars on effectiveness or satisfied. I basically told my doctor to get me off this medication. I lost tons of hair, it caused bruising without much effort. I developed a kind of indent in my skin, on chins. it was noticeable. I became not such a nice person. Had major memory problems. My brother was also on this drug. Even though I asked him to get off the drug, he didn't. He ended up committing suicde. I beleive this drug played a part in his death. I HATE THIS DRUG!!!!!Read More Read Less

It seems to be working, although I don't know if this is another natural correction that may last for who knows how long. I will take it until its not working anymore.

This medication has been the most effective in keeping my moods from swinging so severely since I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and I have been on almost all of them out there. The only problem I have is the size of the pill, especially when I have to take 3 500mg pills. The size needs to be taken down. I have actually had incidences when I could absolutely not swallow the medication.

I was given this medication for my anxiety. I tried so many ssris, and antidepressants but nothing worked. I was nervous about trying this medication because of the severe side effects that could happen but inane so excited that I tried it. For the first time in 4 years I feel normal, my relationships with my husband and mom are great. I'm enjoying life and I'm getting complimented on how well I am doing. It also helps me sleep at night and prevents me from having so many migraines. It took me about 2 weeks to adjust but after that I have been great. The only side effects: drowsy, and some blurred vision when I get to tired. Also, I don't feel like a zombie like the antidepressants made me feel. Overall I'm very happy. My only concern is that you can't take it when your pregnant, and I want to have a baby in the next few years. Read More Read Less

I am concerned that I have developed Essential Tremours which may be related to Depoakote. My Psych has reduced the dose but is this enough?

I have had migraines in various degrees since I was a teen. There were long perions here I would have 1 or 2 a year. Took a bad fall(face plant) and severely injured my spine. It was 7 months before being prescribed Depakote 500mg, (after trying many other options) a week into the medication I suddenly realized my near daily ritual of lying in bed with pillow over my head was no longer necessary. I realize 2 weeks into this medication is too early to know for sure of its effectiveness, but for me a week without a migraine puts this drug in my miracle catagory. I have some stomach irritation, which I hope will soon go away. No medication is right for everyone so if this doesn't work for you keep trying. Good luck !Read More Read Less

I was put on the medication after trying to be off meds for almost a year. I took it for 20+ years and in 2010 I got pancreatis and had to stop taking it. I have been trying to find the right one again.
