Here is my story with Avelox: There is no other medication that I have taken that has been so effective in knocking out infection quickly. This does, however, come at a price of side effects. If you EDUCATE yourself about this drug, you will know how to avoid some/most of these effects. This drug stimulates your central nervous system. Do not take in too many stimulants like nicotine, caffeine...
my mother had copd with a sinus infection and took one of these pills and died within 15 minutes.

After 30 mins of taking the first dose, I was a nervous wreck. I was dizzy, lethargic, and sick to my stomach. This stuff does something to your mind, I don't feel like myself at all. I am up to day 4 and will not continue after today. The FDA should double check this one!

I had contracted MRSA at my work place and within 3 days my arm had swollen up from my wrist to my shoulder. I to avelox for 2 days and the swelling had gone down to the size of a half dollar on my fore arm. After my doctor lanced the original area of infection on the third day of taking the medicine. Within two more days the infection was gone and I had no side effects to this drug.

I was diagnosed with Strep, sinus and ear infection. I took for three days. I was nauseated and light headed. My doctor hesitantly changed my prescrip. He didn't think it should cause nausea. I finished my other prescrip. and still was suffering from sinus infection. I got the idea last night to take a Avelox at bedtime along with an anti nausea pill. I woke up all broke out. Even my feet. I was nauseated but never did throw up. Doctor said it was a reaction to medicine. He said, my body was trying to tell me the last time that it didn't like it... and the 4th dose, even, a week later was all it took. I don't want to slam this drug because I am sure it does good for some. I will not take it again. If you experience nausea, I would stop taking it because you could develop a worse reaction if you continue.Read More Read Less

On this medication, I have had the worst headaches of my life. The side effects don't mention how much pain you will be in if you take this medicine.

After 20 minutes of taking this medicine, I broke out with a few hives, but, my face, eyes, etc... swelled. I went to the E.R. and within seconds, I almost past out, and my tongue swelled. I had difficulty breathing, and went into anaphlactic shock! I never had this medicine before but, caution all who use it!

Within one hour of the first dose, I had severe reaction with swelling of the lips, eyes, inside of mouth and throat. After a trip to the emergency room, complete with intravaneous histimine blockers & steroids and a follow up course of oral steroids I am on my third day out of work. This is worse than the original sinus infection. Do NOT take this drug!

Medication worked immediately within first 24 hours and through the 7 day scrip. Side effect of extreme leg and back pain. Apparently, I did not drink enough water. Also makes you drowsy.

This medication is awful. Within 20 minutes of taking, I am sick to my stomach. I haven't been sleeping, and just realized it's because of these pills. I will not finish the bottle, even though they cost a small fortune.

Took for 3 days. Severe side effects: dizziness, shortness of breath, runny nose, disorientation, short tempered, vision problems, diarrhea and heart palpitations. When I picked up my prescription, the pharmacist made it clear that she felt this might be the wrong drug for me since I have a history of atrial fibrillation. I rechecked with my doctor who assured me that it was "fine". Should have listened to the pharmacist!! The first two days I thought I was gonna die - the 3rd day I was afraid I wasn't! Needless to say I have quit taking this drug and hope the effects will subside.Read More Read Less

I was given this medication for swollen glands in my neck. Immediately after the first dose, I was sick to my stomach and very anxious. I suffer from panic disorder, so this did not help. I have taken three doses and told my doctor today that I will never take again. He just laughed. My pharmacist suggested I take Benadryl to move this out of my system faster. Felt like my neck and face was swelling. I also had to contact my psychiatrist to start taking Paxil again. Crying constantly, taking Ativan to help calm me down, which did not work. Lost my appetite. Clenching my jaw constantly. AWFUL, HORRIBLE, DANGEROUS DRUG.Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this for an ear infection with Pseudomonas. It clearly worked very well and the infection abated quickly. I started having severe panic attacks that I thought were due to losing my hearing and dizziness. These panic feelings continued to increase until I finally thought I needed psych help. I did some research on Avelox and found the symptoms shared here and saw that they matched exactly what I was going through. I thank everyone else who posted their symptoms. I helped me think I wasnt going crazy!Read More Read Less

I actually had a cold I couldn't shake that developed into a mild sinus infection and was prescribed this mega-drug (way more power than I probably needed). I will NEVER take again. I only made it 4 doses out of 10 before I quit taking this drug. It made me feel like I was vibrating from the inside out, my heart felt like it was racing (although it wasn't), I was jittery, short tempered, and could not sleep. It felt like I have been electrically shocked, similar to a tingle but not exactly. After reading the side effects and the warning to contact my physician immediately, I stopped taking it. I will say, however, that after only 4 doses it did clear up my sinus infection.Read More Read Less
