I have had very good results with this medication. I am a crohn's disease patient and so also get duodenal ulcers and have had a GI hemorrhage which was also treated with pantoprazole. I am also a practical Nurse with 20yrs experience. One thing I would like to address is the comments regarding the generic versions of the medication. A generic MUST have exactly the same medicinal ingredient as...

I was prescribe this medicine at the ER for no reason at all, never had an issue with my stomach. While taking this medicine for just a few days I’ve experienced horrible side effects.. diarrhea, shakiness, insomnia, dizziness, horrible abdominal spasms and cramps that worsen when I’ll stand and walk. Be careful with this poison!

I’ve been taking Nexium for years and was switched to this over the last 3 months. 20mg twice daily and have had zero acid reflux since. This is the best medication I’ve used since I was diagnosed with GERD in 2006.

Had indigestion, prescribed by GP as I was to be travelling thru Europe and experiencing different foods etc. Approx 1 wk into trip started getting hot flashes, ignored them. 3 wks in anxiety stated, very mild. 4wks in fatigue ++, didn't want to do anything but sleep, anxiety thru the roof, anger outburst at simple things. Fought all of this off and just got on with it. 8wks in, +++anxiety, tinnitus, +++fatigue, spaced out feeling, light headed, dizzy, increased BP, shakes and vibrations all over, massive anger issues for no reason...... Finally decided to go to a Dr., night before my Appt I researched this medication and was astounded by the amnt of people who have these reactions. I am an ER nurse by trade and trusted these meds, never again. I also believe if I had seen a Dr I would have been prescribed a med for anxiety and brushed off. Been off the meds for 2 days and I think the side effects are subsiding, anxiety at a 3/10, fatigue 5/10, anger 1/10, dizzyness and spaced out 5/10.Read More Read Less

Have had extreme acid reflux for a few years. Had my gallbladder removed and it seemed to increase the amount of acid pain. Fast forward to this year and I was in so much pain, I couldn’t even put my arms down. My acid was out of control. Took 40 MG and it was a miracle worker! I’ve already had mild anxiety but not anything crazy like panic attacks…… I’ve been on the meds for about 3 full months…. I can’t even drive anymore. My anxiety is debilitating! I’m having panic attacks constantly. Feel like I’m absolutely losing my mind. The doctor never informed me of this! I’m so frustrated! And depressed! Anxious 24/7. I was praying about my mental health and ready to take anxiety meds, when I felt like I NEEDED to read reviews. And see if I was the only one….. IM NOT. Happy for those who take this and continue to live normal lives. This medicine did help me regarding my stomach pain… but it has negatively affected my mental health. Hopefully stopping it will reverse the side effects…Read More Read Less

Pantoprazole 40mg twice a day that’s 80 mg in one day. This is horrible medication had given me all of the above symptoms. Headache, dizziness, anxiety, muscle joint pain, extremely back pain headache, insomnia was not able to sleep at night. This medicine is bad news. Yes, it took care of the acid reflex, but it is not worth all of the side effects of causes and believe me I was on it for months and went into trauma of all the anxiety. I’ve read in here of how many people have the same experience and yet some doctors say it’s in your head. No they wanna make money on the drugs. It’s not on our head. It is what it does to us what part don’t understand the good doctor would tell you to get off the medicine and put you on something that works or diet. Doctors need to listen to the patients that know their bodies and no the side effects they get it’s not in our head it’s in the medication you give us. I am sensitive to a lot of medication so I can only stay on it a short term. Otherwise you have to go to Tums in between if needed. Pepcid. complete which can also make you tired during the day in the evening never had a drastic side effect from that. It does help though taking it once a day or two times a day. People all I can say is please listen to your body. If you’re having the symptoms stop it they can do more damage than good down the line. Some doctors don’t care they’re making money on a pharmaceutical that’s bull crap. Listen to your body senses if I don’t feel right get off it.. the only natural ones that work or either do a diet or go on Pepcid complete and use Tums in between if need be state off all of these drugs that are being put on you it is not worth your health. And yes, when you come off of the medicine, those symptoms do disappear, I was on Prevacid 15 mg and I had slight things of the same thing but not a strong only stayed on it for a couple months and then got off it now you know why they say don’t stay on these medicines for more than 15 days now you know why bad bad side effects can also mess with your organs you don’t want that . Find other healthy remedies please for your own health and life. I hope some of these doctors start listening to their patients we know what’s happening when we take medication’s. What it does and what it doesn’t do listen to your patients or get another doctor someone that cares about your health and doesn’t want to make money off the pharmaceutical crap. I hope those of you that are going through all this pain and suffering get through it and get off this medication immediately if you are having the same symptoms, it can affect your kidneys, your liver etc. when you are on them too lol, I know acid reflex is a bummer but it’s not worth your health to get worse over a drug that can do more damage. Have a good day. Read More Read Less

While this medication worked great for treating reflux and heartburn, I developed heart palpitations and debilitating panic attacks. I stopped driving, and eventually barely left my house. I've been put on several different medications for anxiety and nothing seemed to help. I finally started to take a hard look at the timeline of events and everything seemed to coincide with when I started this medication. I'm in the process of stopping it and the acid rebound is no picnic but I'd rather that then constant anxiety attacks! Do your research and be your own health advocate. Read More Read Less

I was having blood in my stool and acid reflex. My doctor prescribed 40 mg prantopazole. It helped, just not enough. He gave me two 40 mg a day. That worked great. I have been taking that drug for over three years. No side effects at all. Now they want me to switch to something else. I got my blood tested regularly, still no problem. Now I can’t afford to go to a doctor because I was forced to get a different job. Long long story. Never had a problem with pantoprozale.

I've been 5 weeks on 4omg its seemed to help very much. I had a perforated ulcer rupture and basically be in this for life. I'd like to say that if you know the outcomes for taking this med why no precautions taking to offset it. Seems like a no brainer decision to me is all.

Thank goodness for reviews! I was prescribed pantoprazole 6 days ago and have been on it for 5 days and although it did help with my acid reflux it has given me a really bad anxiety, panic attacks, unable to sleep, nausea, loss of appetite and fatigue. I'm stopping this medication immediately. The side effects are not worth it.

After taking this drug for a long period of time it started making my chest hurt and I felt like my food wasn't going down well. I stopped taking it and asked my Gastroenterologists for something else. He told me to take 20 mg of pepcid over the counter. It was as if he was angry that I asked for something else. So i asked my primary physician to prescribe something else and he gave me 40 mg of Famotidine. I felt like that was too much so I'm now takings 20 mg of Famotidine and its working better for me. I can get this through my prescription drug company at no cost to me. It's the same thing as 20 mg of pepcid just the generic brand and I don't have to pay for it. Read More Read Less

I have had GERD, ulcers and esophagitis issues for decades. Loved Zantac and nexium but don’t want to take anything too long due to osteoporosis. After last endoscopy doctor wanted me to try Protonix. I was excited because I had not heard of it. I’ve been on it for seven days. Within two days of taking it i had headaches and diarrhea so bad all day I thought I was prepping for another colonoscopy. Then came the stomach cramps and dizziness and chills. Even with all the diarrhea I am so bloated my sweats are so tight. This is only seven days. GERD is still horrible. I never had any of these problems with the nexium so I guess I’ll go back to that or just use the sulfacrate by itself.Read More Read Less

Pantoprazole has been my savior for Gastritis. 40mg was given to me morning and night when I was at my worst in the hospital, then I titrated down to 20mg morning and night. Eventually and only took it once a day and took Pepcid AC 10mg twice a day to replace the second dose. I've had two side effects that are negative from Pantoprazole, after taking it for 3 months my hair starts to fall out. This has happened twice and is a direct correlation to the Pantoprazole. Also, it makes my skin dry, and flaky. I eventually have to completely come off it and give my body a break. After 3 months off it, my stomach problems start again and I have to retake it. Its not a fun cycle. Trying to heal my stomach with all kinds of things. Mostly my stress is causing the recurrence of Gastritis though. Anyway, it works, but beware of the hair loss and the dry skin, my ear lobs even cracked open at the joint of my neck. All sides totally go away within 4-6 weeks of quitting. 43 yr old healthy male, (other than the gastritis and anxiety/stress lol.) Read More Read Less

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE! IT'S COMPLETE POISON. What's up this medicine for one month 40 mg twice a day for indigestion. An hour after I took this medication I became extremely light-headed and dizzy. Joint aches all over, anxiety through the roof. Had blood test, brain scans, endoscopies, colonoscopies they couldn't figure out what it was. Stopped taking it and felt better after 2 days. THIS MEDICATION IS POISON!
