I've taken 3 doses, one month apart. My hips and joints are killing me. I have been migraine free, however I am so uncomfortable. I was told the only side effects were regarding the injection site. That is impossible, since all drugs can have various side effects It wasn't until I read other reviews that I correlated my joint pain to this drug.

Day 14, the headache is felt worse upon awaking. Today like a 6. Not working for me. Plus, my left hand is hurting for no reason. Like a tendinitis or something and no reason for that to occur.

Medication works very well with reducing my cluster headache spells from a monthly thing to a once a year thing. No side effects other than injection site pain lasts about 5 seconds.

Terrible joint pain within a day of the loading dose massive hair loss , bloating and constipation. My doctor insisted there were no side effects at all. Haven’t seen any relief from migraines either. I seriously regret taking this medication I am so much worse off now. I will never take another dose and really not trusting the medical field anymore.

I started Emgality in August of 2022 for NDPH and intractable migraines. I was excited to start it and it worked for me for about 3 months. It brought my baseline pain down to about a 5/10 (it is normally at a 9/10 and unbearable) and I was really happy - until month 4. After my 4th month I really started to lose my hair, I mean clumps in the shower. I have also gained 20 lbs and my exercise and diet routines haven't changed. I have been the same weight for ten years. I have also been experiencing heart palpitations and increased anxiety. I stopped this drug in April 2023 and my hair loss has increased. I lose handfuls of hair everyday and I am scared about what my hair will soon look like. I cannot lose any of the weight and my head pain is a 10/10 now - worse than before I started. I regret taking this drug everyday and I caution everyone to do your research before starting it. I have about half of my hair now. Read More Read Less

Emgality has been life changing. Since starting it about 3 years ago, I have literally had no migraines. Zero. Used to have 5 or 6 a month and was taking Imitrex injections regularly. It has been a lifesaver and given back my quality of life. Shot is quite painful —but it’s worth it. I have noticed no side effects at all.

Hi blood Pressure patient here, who also had a stroke six years ago. Beg doctor not to give me anything that would raise my blood pressure or keep me in a hypertensive state. Didn't listen injected next morning. Blood pressure went from normal on blood pressure.
Read what is in this medication and read what that other medication is meant to do. If question, Blood Pressure is gonna go up. The doctor that injected me this new neurologist never returned. My phone calls or my doctor's phone calls. I've gone to the office. She's never literally could have died.... Do not recommend this for people who are hypertensive.Read More Read Less

This has been life-changing for me. For over a decade, I had been plagued by migraines, and most recently had approximately 25 migraine days per month. The remaining days were spent in pro- and post-drome. I was absolutely miserable. I could no longer hold a job, and was not the person I needed to be for my family. I had also gained 90 pounds, had serious mood issues, and could not think straight. I thought I had a degenerative neurologic condition it was so severe. Since using Emgality, I have maybe four migraines a month and they respond easily to treatment so I do not lose those days. At first, I gained a little weight, but then I was able to do what I could not for over a decade because my body chemistry was so off - I was able to start a healthy eating plan and get up and moving. I have lost 40 lbs and am still going strong. I don't live in fear of waking up with a migraine on important days, like my wedding six years ago (luckily no migraine). I can eat onions, or have an occasional beer. The only real issue I have is some additional hair loss, which I am working to combat. I will still buy a wig before I give up this miracle that gave me my life again.Read More Read Less

Most importantly, this medicine has worked for me. I've gone from 6-15 migraines per month to 2. Hard to argue with the results.
Now the negatives:
1. The injection hurts quite a bit. The initial poke is fine, but it increases in pain for the 10 seconds it takes to inject.
2. I have gained some weight on this. Hopefully this is a short term side effect.
3. I have developed eczema since starting this. Just a spot on my ankle, but I believe it's related.
4. Joint pain has been a thing, but not too bad.
Overall, I hope it continues to work for me and that the side effects don't get worse Read More Read Less

Total neurologist that I am hypertensive how to stroke and have uncurrently or having blood pressure issues. And did not want to try anything that would affect my blood pressure. She said there is no side effects of blood pressure. This is why I see all the articles online about. It got home took my blood pressure so it wasn't feeling right and it Was 160 over. A? 105 and when I left the house to go to her. It was 118 / 87
This medicine definitely spikes your blood pressure. If you're hypertensive it makes you more hypertensive so I'm thoroughly discussed it in both the doctor and but this is not listed on one of the side effects which is very Dangerous now I had a double dose on my medicine and I have to wait to speak to my cardiologist and call the office in the morning since it's now And hopefully don't have to go to the hospital. Google the gene that's in this medicine and you'll see it comes from miceRead More Read Less

First of all, Emgality has worked extremely well at preventing my migraines. That is the most important thing. I have gone from 10-15 migraines per month to one or two. I now have "minor" migraines usually, which can be treated with Tylenol.
These are the negatives that I have experienced:
1. Very painful injections. The initial poke isn't bad, but the pain increases during the ten seconds injection. Not a huge deal, but not fun.
2. This medicine MAY have caused joint pain for me. Seems worse since I started this drug, but can't be sure.
3. I have developed eczema since taking Emgality. Again, not sure if there is a connection.
Overall, this has been a game changer with what I consider tolerable side effects.

Life changing results. Emgality saved me from miserable and excruciating migraines. I have experienced zero side effects and I have now been using it for a full year. When I first started taking the shots they would only last about three weeks but now they last the full month. Emgality saved me! I thank my neurologist every checkup.

First, Emgality does NOT work for my cluster headaches. At all. Second, this is the most painful shot of any I’ve ever had in my life. I’ve been trying to use it for 2 years now with no positive results. The injection site stays red, causes a huge red bump & the pain lasts for several days. Apparently many others in my cluster headache support group experience the same problems. It may work for migraines but it sure does NOT for clusters.

It's a miracle drug for me. I've tried nearly every other preventative and emergency med, and they either barely worked or had terrible side-effects. Emgality does cause me the more common side-effect constipation, for which I've had to add a lot of metamuscil to counter act it, but it's well worth for my migraine free sanity.

Emgality has been an absolute life-changing miracle drug for me! I have had chronic migraines since I was about 14. Nothing prevented or got rid of them. I started taking Emgality about a year or two ago. I went from about 6 out 7 migraine days a week to virtually zero! About 3 months ago my new insurance denied covering Emgality so I was without it for a couple months. I had 23 out of 27 migraine days and these were more severe than I’ve ever experienced. I was unable to function at all with how bad my migraines had gotten. Even though it is very expensive I would rather pay for Emgality out of pocket any day than go back to living with reoccurring migraines. I have experience absolutely no side effects that I am aware of. Read More Read Less

I took Emgality I 2021 for migraines. It did seem to help with the migraines but side effects are worse than benefits. I became very depressed, gained weight and had a lot more joint pain. While using this medication and consuming alcohol I became very mean to people and couldn’t remember hours. After this medication was out of my system everything went back to normal, depression is under control, haven’t had a blackout while drinking in 2 yrs or ever had one before this medication so I assume it was this medication. I don’t recommend Emgality. It stays in your system for months! I’m glad it can help some people but be aware of horrible side effects. Read More Read Less

Before Emgality I had headaches for more than 20 days a month. Emgality has relieved my headaches significantly. I've had no side effects except minimal injection site itchiness. In the last week prior to the next scheduled monthly injection I get my headaches again. My doctor has prescribed Ubrelvy (Nurtec didn't worker me) and that alleviates them. I don't know what the long term effects taking Emgality for years hence, but it's worth it to me to be headache-free.

I'm genuinely heartbroken I just went through 3 years of hell over a medication I loved. Getting my migraines under control was like heaven. I'd get them some times 3x a week. The type you want end your life instead of deal with any longer. Tried every pill. Rizatriptan worked but I'd have to keep resetting cuz body addiction to it. I had recently moved in with a new guy. Was in love and happy. Hair thinning I figured was stress. About a year in my anxiety was terrible, intrusive thought. One day at work I had a crunch and no longer could walk. Found out I had Avascular Necrosis (lack of blood supply to my joint) not able to figure out the source, I was "an anomaly ". At 38yrs old I got a left full hip replacement. Any time my pain got bad my heartrate started going up but I was on an anti muscle spasms muscle relaxer which would calm the pain and get my heartrate back to normal. Then as my right hip went out my heartrate would get so out of control I was in the ER at least once a month HR at 170 throwing up in agony. At 39 full right hip replacement (all during covid) Now at 40 I just had my right knee replaced. I moved back home this past year. I put on 100lbs in past 3 years always stressed and broken. Now anxiety has me unknowingly scratch at my arms at red bumps. Cut off fingernails and meditate. Can't take anxiety meds cuz of painkillers from surgery. As I sit awake anxious at 2am I found this page. I always said migraines are the worst thing in the world... I was wrong. Finding out your entire future is ruined because a helpful drug can destroy your life within 3yrs because the creators lie.Read More Read Less

I try to inject this as little as possible. Last injection was July. Now its January. Injected the 12th cuz I had headaches every day and nausea for about a month , could not stand it. Every time I inject it. Its different. Last time my mood and energy improved until second month when I couldn't get more than 2 consecutive hours of sleep and started passing out in the day. This time, it helps my headaches and I went right to fatigued all the damn time. Its been two weeks so far. Will keep tracking itRead More Read Less
