I have been on a .05 estrogen patch for 9 years since I had a complete hysterectomy at age 41. I was put on it immediately after surgery so I really didn't have much chance to have any menopausal symptoms. At first they had me on a 1.0 patch which made my eyeballs bulge or swell. It was too much & so I had them lower the dose. I have really not had any bad side effects except maybe headache...

This patch caused a burn on my arm, I had the patch on for two days and it began to burn, when I took the patch off it hurt tremendously and it actually peeled skinned off. I still after ten days of being off the patch still have a noticable burn mark there.

I've had very good results using the patch for over 5 years, but my Dr. decided to lower the dosage from 0.1 to 0.5 to reduce some possible side effects. The lower dosage does not work as well, but willing to give it a try.

I have been on the patch for 4 years and have adjusted the dose .1 by cutting the patch in half, applying as needed, the half patch stays on better than the whole. I rotate application to each side of pelvic area, replacing only when one falls off, about every week. Cuts the expense, one months supply lasts me 3. Rarely will I have a hot flash, if I do, I noticed one had fallen off or just replace the older one. And what others have said about the sex life, is totally true! Haven't had this much fun since ever! Also, since I started this routine, I've lost 30lbs (with serious portion control and minimal exercise)Read More Read Less

I had a complete hysterectomy in Jan 2011 and since have taken the Vivelle dot about 2 weeks after sergery as I felt like I was on a roller coaster ride from hell. I started out with .5 and then went to 1. I can always tell when I've missed my time to switch the patch as I get really moody and annoyed by everything but the main complaint is I've gained about 8lbs since I started taking it and diet and exercise don't seem to be taking it off. I also have back aches almost daily and my hair has thinned. I'm only 34 and I feel way older. I also have no desire for sex and I'm always exhausted. I want to get off of it and take something that would be more herbal than a HRT med because I also tested positive for the BRACA1/BRACA2 gene which indicates I have the breast cancer gene and this won't help it any. I need guidance on this. Please help!!Read More Read Less

I had a total hysterectomy 6 years ago at age 54. I had pretty bad hot flashes for 5 years (day and night) until my GYN recommended Vivelle Dot .025. The flashes continued so she switched me to .0375, which worked. After awhile she had me alternate the 2 strengths and that worked up until about a month ago. For the first time, I forgot to change them and it was almost a week before I remembered. I went right back to my regular schedule, alternating the 2 strengths, but the hot flashes have returned and seem to be getting worse. I have an appt. next month, and am trying to hold on until then, to see if the flashes stop. I have been totally happy with the patches until I started with this problem.Read More Read Less

At 56 years of age I was diagnosed with breast cancer. After surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy my ovaries stopped functioning. I had two bad side effects, insomnia and vaginal dryness. I took Ambien for 8 years in order to sleep. I finally had side effects from the drug, so I stopped it.The insomnia became severe and life threatening. My oncologist and gynecologist agreed that I could use the Vivelle Dot.I started at 0.0375 and am now on 0.05 for the past 2 years. It is like a miracle. I can now sleep and the vaginal symptoms are well controlled. However this past week I have not been able to sleep as it was before I started on Vivelle Dot. I am wondering if they have some quality control issues and not all patches have the indicated does. Has anyone else experienced this?Read More Read Less

I'm 57, white women.I've used the Vivelle-Dot (.075)mg 2 x per week. It has helped my hot flashes tremendously! and a better night sleep but there are other issues, I've gotten a better night sleep but ther are days when I barely get 2 hrs. I've been remembering to re-apply the patch (mon & thurs, but I have glue patches all over), I will try some of the recommendations on removal after reading the reviews. The absolute worst side effect is weight gain, as many others are saying I eat healthy, exercise as much as I can but I still have the extra weight 15-20lbs. I want to stop using the patch for that reason but my hot flashes were so bad I was getting them every 15 min, and no sleep at all.At times I have muscle and joint pain but it could also be the fact is I'm getting older. My Dr. says it is OK to continue with the patch, I would like to know if anyone has found a good alternative. Read More Read Less

Had a total hysterectomy/oopherectomy in my late 30s. Have been on vivelle dot patch for more years than I can remember. Blood work is good, mood and general well-being is great so mood and genenral well being of the family is also good! Patch stickes well on clean, dry and lotion/powder free skin. Otherwise adhesive can fail. Have tried to do without the patch and will last only about a week before the hotflashes, mood issues and feeling of malaise take over. I enjoy life with it too much to do without it.Read More Read Less

Had to have a complete hysterectomy mid-year 2012. My Dr. recommended this for estrogen replacement vivelle dot .05 mg patch. I am 57 and just want to enjoy my life! I would highly recommend vivelle dot. I don't suffer from complete vaginal dryness or pain. I feel really good, with no complaints other than I have some swelling but I can live with that. Estrogen is so important to your body to have it replaced after a complete hysterectomy. Good luck to anyone who isn't feeling at their best. If you've walked in my shoes, medically speaking, talk to your Dr. about vivelle dot. I hope it helps you as well.Read More Read Less

I tried Vivelle dot after using another patch immediately after surgery. I initially really liked the Vivelle dot. Its' smaller and seemed to work well. My main complaint was the adhesive is not consistent. Some patches stick and others fail within a day or so. I would run out of a box before the month was out and have to go refill out of pocket, as insurance wont cover extras. Lately I have had issues with overall efficacy. Some patches feel like either too much or too little estrogen is being delivered. I have checked and rechecked dose on box and individual packets to make sure a mistake hadn't been made when filling the Rx. I am having heart racing, loss of focus and vaginal dryness issues and am going to have to find an alternative to the patch. I came online today to see if others were having efficacy issues with the Vivelle dot. Read More Read Less

At 53 started having menopause symptoms. Nothing my doctor suggested worked except Vivelle-Dot. I take progesterone with it since I have a uterus. This stuff has saved my life. No more hot flashes.....nothing. Within about 2 weeks I was in love.

While on the Vivelle Dot I have experienced some very bad side affects. Continuous yeast infection, swelling of extremeties, and extremely sore feet. My liver which has always been in great health also is showing many signs of disfunction. Some of these are side affects stated on pamphlet for the Dot. Beyond these things I saw a complete end to hot flashes and moodiness. I actually felt great emotionally. I so wish I could stand all the side affects because I want to take it for all the plus.
