Zyprexa for me was the best medication for stabilizing my moods. It immediately calmed me down, helped me get my anxiety under control, and I finally could sleep for more than four hours. The reason for the high dissatisfaction is first, I was sleepy ALL THE TIME. I went from four hours sleep to 12 or more hours sleep, and even after all that I was still sleepy. I had a long commute to wor...

I am on this for the bipolar portion of my schizoaffective. I was ultradian cycling and have been on it two weeks. It seems to be helping. I'm still not stable but maybe upping the dose will make it perfect.

Mom was given this med instead of Seroquel for her hallucinations. Mom has Lewy Body Dementia and for the first week or two it was like we got mom back! After about a month on it mom developed contraindications. She had been eating really well, then she started losing her appetite and began sleeping more. Suddenly one day she couldn't straighten up, she was bent sideways to the left, and could not stay up straight. Suddenly, she had fever, muscle pain, overall weakness, lethargy, loss of appetite, dehydration, confusion, and inability to speak coherently. At first, I thought mom had the flu, then I read the contraindications. This med is not indicated for my mom, so I don't know if it is her physical make up, the disease itself or that the drug is not applicable. Whatever the reason, this med is not indicated for psychosis with the elderly. Mom has dementia, so I don't know if there may be some physiological relationship.Read More Read Less

Zyprexa is a wonderful drug. I took it for 6 years and felt great. Then I started to have tremors in my hands. Discontinued it. Now on an SSRI drug and it is not working at all. Still seeking medical advice.

This was the absolute worst drug I have ever taken. Horrible weight gain (40 lbs in 6 mos.) and swelling. Has been 10 yrs. since I titrated off and still have not lost all the weight and still have bouts of swelling. I wish I had never seen this drug, even internal organs swelled. Never again !Developed hypothyroid and diabetes type 2

I have just recently been diagnosed with bi-polar associated with mixed moods. They are giving me zyprexa with prosaic and it is definitely a winning combination. I am a recovering addict and my moods have been so stabilized that I rarely have cravings. Also, I have social anxiety/phobia and this medication works wonders for that!

I have a lot of the side effects listed for this medication. Some include confusion, agitation, restlessness (RLS),weight gain, numbness and tingling in the extremities and diabetes. Please note that if someone, including your provider, thinks you are confused, tell them to consult a drug referrence listing the side effects associated with this medication.

I have been taking zyprexa for over ten years for bipolar disorder with psychotic symptoms. In the beginning it helped me tremendously and helped me to maintain a steady job and life for about 7 years on the drug. I did not put on the weight gain that others seem to have a problem with. However, please note that it makes you want to sleep 10-12 hours a day and if I got any less than that during the night I would have to make up for it with a 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon or evening! Recently I had to stop taking zyprexa since it seems to not be working anymore to manage my bipolar symptoms. Even worse, I think it has exacerbated sleep apnea syndrome where I am not able to breathe properly or at all for periods of time at night, which makes me wake up in the middle of the night for many many moments at a time. This really wreaks havoc on your sleep cycle and sleep quality! Overall, I would say that try this medication if you must of if your psychiatrist recommends this but beware of the long-term side effects that they may not be too aware of and may not be published when this drug was first released to the public. Hope this helps!Read More Read Less
