Zyprexa for me was the best medication for stabilizing my moods. It immediately calmed me down, helped me get my anxiety under control, and I finally could sleep for more than four hours. The reason for the high dissatisfaction is first, I was sleepy ALL THE TIME. I went from four hours sleep to 12 or more hours sleep, and even after all that I was still sleepy. I had a long commute to wor...

I started taking Zyprexa for a bipolar diagnosis. Made me very ill for the first few weeks. Required hospitalization. severe vomiting with serious abdominal pain. The only benefit of this drug was knocking me out at night to make me sleep.

I haven't been taking this med long but being a recovering addict and trying so many different drugs I truly think I found the one for me. Side effect's are mild at best and I am happy and attentive. Yea the eating is a problem but knowing about it helps me control how much I eat.

On day one slept for 14hrs, very groggy. 2nd day: spacey, confused, tremors, insomnia, increased appetite. On 3rd day right now: less confused, tremors diminished, can't stop eating, tired, low energy, lethargic, slow to respond, temperamental, talking to voices by nightime, still unable to sleep. Time to take my pill (10mg). Wish me luck.

I have been on Zyprexa for 3 years now. It helps tremendously with bipolar. That is not an issue. What is an issue is the 30 pounds of weight gain for someone who hasn't had trouble with weight since high school. Another issue is the zombie-like effect, even on 2.5 mgs a day. On top of that, I just had my 1st troubling liver test. I would not recommend this long-term, but more as needed.

I have high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I know the hbp can be caused by this medicine. How do I know if I really need this type of medication?

I have mixed emotions about this drug. My 75 yr old mother began taking Zyprexa 2 yrs ago and at the time it was amazingly successful. It still is...somewhat. Several months ago she began having tremors and they are progressively worse now. She has also developed diabetes, diabetes related heard disease, has had seizures (had the disorder prior), high cholesterol ... but hasn't gained a pound. I am terribly concerned because some of the precautions I have read online indicate the tremors may not subside after stopping the meds. You would think she had Parkinsons (and may - MRI pending). I am terrified to take her off Zyprexa because of her state of mind. But, I'm also terrified to leave her on the drug. It's a double edge sword for me. I think some people will do well on this drug...but others will not. Everyone has to try it for themselves. Best of luck to everyone. Read More Read Less

Other than exhaustion, I have had luck with this med. I was feeling better...BUT I now have elevated Prolactin levels and have to have an MRI. Not positive that there is a cooralation but it sure seems to be.
