Most of my life, I've had a severe problem with excessive daytime sleepiness. I complained to doctors about fatigue just to hear them say that I'm depressed or I need to exercise more. My 1st sleep study was about 20 yrs ago and was told it was "a sleep apnea". The drug prescribed had one side effect, cariovascular disease. So, then I had high cholesteral and the drug was taken off the market. I'v...

I have narcolepsy. Have been taking Provigil/Modafinil for many years with good results. Recently the pill has changed and about 2 weeks after taking it, I started to get sick and taking the pill was like taking a placebo. I began feeling drugged, nauseated, disorientated, dizzy, agitated, fatigued and had to go to bed because I could not function. I stopped taking the drug. I began reading the att...

I take this for mild daytime sleepiness/concentration problems from idiopathic hypersomnia. For me it takes 40m-1.5hrs to take affect (only noticeable if I'm still in bed), is very subtle, and has no obvious side effects. My biggest problem with it is it lasts 10hrs; I'm a long sleeper who sleeps 14hrs on average, so sometimes I wake up too late to take it, and then I take caffeine pills (in comparison: caffeine pills make me feel more awake, don't improve my concentration as much, and make me feel more tired when they wear off (as well as taking effect much faster, wearing off faster, and not having the addiction/dependence issues)). I take 200mg first thing in the morning, 5-6 days a week. Most helpful for work/study.Read More Read Less

For the last 15 years, I've taking Modafinil/provigil in conjunction with CPAP therapy (Machine, Mask, etc.) to counter borderline obstructive sleep apnea. The alertness it provide totally eliminates the mid-day I would generally experience. Excellent drug. Shouldn't be listed as tier 4.

After reading the reviews on this page, I concluded that I must be the only person that Modafinil has little to no effect on. I was given Nuvigil originally (100 mg). Nothing. That was doubled to 250 mg, but I could not pay the $600 price. I was switched to Modafinil (200 mg), and have been on it for 1 month. I just got a refill, but may not get another one. The price is better ($44 with insurance), but the effects are not. I am convinced that the drug does little if anything for me. I have severer obstructive sleep apnea. My last study recorded that I stopped breathing 120 times per hour without my machine. I have been on CPAP or BiPap for more than 10 years. Guess I will just have to keep living with being sleepy.Read More Read Less

I just started taking this medication for narcolepsy and effects of sleep apnea. I'm on my second week. When I first started to take it, it seemed to be working very well, but now, into my second week I seem to be having anxiety issues. My heart is racing and I feel slightly dizzy with a slight headache. This starts shortly after I take my daily dose and usually gets better during the day, but does not go away entirely. I also take bupropion for ADHD and depression, so I don't know if these drugs are interacting with each other or not.Read More Read Less

After 3 month of taking modafinil it gave me sugar diabetes. I stared taking the meds in October of 2014 and in January 2015 my sugar levels went up to 452 and I had to go the Emergency room to receive Insulate for the first time. Once I stop the medication my sugar diabetes return to slightly above normal which is between 140 and 220. My levels was never high than 118 in the morning. It use to run between 93 and 107. My levels in the morning now is between 137 and 187. The meds made me weak and sleepy instead of keeping me awake. I needed 10 to 12 hours of sleep to function only for about 5 hours before needing a nap. I was switch bad to Armodafinil and I have improved greatly. Thanks for allowing me to voice my concerns.Read More Read Less

I had had narcolepsy for years, treated with dexamfetamine, when a doctor switched me to the newer drug modafinil. It worked in the sense of preventing the sleep attacks, but it had appalling side effects. It gave me very bad nights and twitches of limbs, especially kicking legs. I persevered for some time but eventually had to ask the Dr. to put me back on Amphetamine. I now see that Arrythmia (erratic heart beat) is a possible side effect and I do now suffer from that, but I cannot swear that modafinil was the initiating cause.Read More Read Less

Over the years I've had problems with fatigue, concentration and short term memory. After researching, I decided to try modafinil. After my first dosage of 200mg, I felt really good, it kept me alert, it helped with my fatigue and it helped me to focus better at work. However after couple days it started to have negative effect on my body, I was experiencing nasty headache, it effected my short term memory and verbal fluency. Furthermore I felt very anxious which affected me at work and whilst driving. This pill affects everyone in different ways, it does have benefits as well negatives too.Read More Read Less

Provigil/Modafinil has made a tremendous difference in my life! I could not sit down anywhere without dozing off within a couple of minutes - home, work, church, classes. I was talking to a friend across the table from me and dozed off! She said I'd been out for a couple of minutes. That also includes driving a car for more than an hour or so! Sometimes less. VERY scary! It didn't seem to work well the first couple of months, but the doctor adjusted my dosage and that seems to have taken care of the problem. I don't seem to have any side affects, I'm awake when I need to be and can tell if I've forgotten to take the noon dose. Sometimes, if it's not too late, I'll take a 1/4 or half tablet and that will carry me over until I SHOULD go to sleep. I have obstructive sleep apnea treated by a CPAP, but was sent for a daytime nap study/test. the conclusion was that I also suffer from "excessive daytime sleepiness." Due to being on the CPAP, it's not narcolepsy, but is related to it. This medication works very well for me. Read More Read Less

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and was put on a CPAP machine. My sleep improved and felt refreshed in the morning, but I would get these sleep attacks throughout the day when I was not engaged in an activity. A third sleep study confirmed that I had narcolepsy. My doctor put me on 200 MG. After an hour, my sleep attacks reduced significantly. After a month and a consult with my doctor, he put me on 400 MG (2 tablets of 200 MG). I take two tablets in the morning and I do not have any sleep attacks. I got approval to take one tablet in the morning and prior to lunch take the second pill, and I noticed it takes me longer to fall asleep. When taken twice in the morning, and it is time to go to sleep, I do not have a problem. After taking this drug, my urine smells like the drug tastes. I don't think Febreze makes a spray to mask urine pill smell, so you either accept it or find a stall. Read More Read Less

This medication works great. I have been using this medicine for two and a half years. I continue to use this medicine because I don't have the need to fall asleep while taking the medication. I take 400mg and also use a cpap machine. I get plenty of sleep but in the day in always tired, then this medicine to the tired out of my day. I also think it improves your alertness and thinking. For example before I took the medicine I would fall asleep multiple times a day, and now I am focused on what is at task and can read books longer, have the energy to to tasks around the house and work. This medicine is expensive but if you have good medical insurance they will pay for it. The longer you take this medication you will notice the many new you. This is an additive medication and requires approval to get it. I hope this review helps someone.Read More Read Less

While I do not have any sleep disorder issues, I have long suffered from a practically intractable recurrent Major Depressive disordeer. I find that Modafinil, 200 mg BID, markedly elevates my mood. I am not talking about a drug induced euphoria, but rather a gentle improvement. I am aware that such use may be "off label", but it does offset some of the more sedating effects of my other meds.

I started taking this drug b/c I was overwhelmed with work/school/family/everything. I also had mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea. I can say that taking this medication has been a very good experience. My thoughts are much more organized. I'm thinking 2-3 steps in advance and don't have so much of "fuzzy brain". I don't take it as prescribed. I noticed that after taking it 5 days in a row I felt as if I were building a tolerance. Therefore I began scoring the tablets and that seemed to work much better (hello manufacturer??). Focus is off the chain. Have fun.Read More Read Less

The meds worked the first few days, and then back to the sleepiness, and I thought moreso. I tried doubling the dosage, taking at different times of the day, but nothing worked. With the price of the medication, I chose to stop taking it. I did not like the way it made me feel, and it did not help my condition
