I have tried many different brands (Nature's Way, Now etc.). Most are standardized to 8% valerenic acids. I have a mixed response: sometimes, I seem to get little benefit; other times, there seems to be a lengthening and deepening of my sleep, but not always as much as I would like. This leads me to suspect that there is more to Valerian than valerenic acids. However, when I use capsules containing only the powdered herb, typically 2 capsules of 500mg powdered herb at bedtime, I have a very deep and restful sleep. Sometimes, I use these powdered herb capsules in half-doses: one capsule at bedtime and a second one when I wake up in the middle of the night. This is also very effective for me. While I tend to prefer standardized extracts of medicinal herbs, Valerian is the one exception, where the powdered herb seems to be much more effective and satisfying. Valerian is one of my most treasured herbs, one I rely on a lot, so I have much experience with it.Read More Read Less
